HO / Spectrum 2-8-0 tender body removal
June 08, 2020, 10:43:25 PM
It's been a while since I last did this but how do you remove the tender body from the Spectrun (remember those good models?) tender.

Thanks.

Down load and run JMRI    You do not need to know any CVs   JMRI knows them all.

The exploded diagram is here:
https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/dwg/dwgs/HO_ALCO_FA2_(DCC_REDAY).pdf

The sideframes and truck bottom cover assembly are held in place at the front and rear by cross pieces that snap over "wedges" at the front and rear of the truck. Gently pry the cross pieces up with a small screw driver and the cover assembly should lift off.

Not sure is a gear as cracked or what but I need to access the wheels on an FA-2.  Google was no help.   Anyone tell me how to access the wheels on the truck?

Loco was fine yesterday but tiday one wheel set is cranky.

Thanks.

HO / spectrum 2-8-0
October 26, 2019, 10:43:55 PM
i sent one of my Spectrum 2-8-0s away for a sound decoder installation.

It came back with both pilot and tender couplers missing and one of the pilot wheel journals broken so the pilot truck axle is only held in place by one journal.

Can Bachmann couplers and and now pilot truck be ordered from Bachmann?

Does Bachmann sell their HO diesel and steam sound decoders as separate, user install items?

None of my ten year old Spectrums run anymore.  Motors spin, on two of them and the third one the wires between plug and motor broke away from the plug.

Oh what to do as they have all been detailed, new stem dome, new sandbox, new stack, modified teners etc..   If I send them back to Bachmann, I wont get them back and what I will get back won't be Spectrum.  :-(
Yes, what to do?

Speaking pf tender swaps.   Back in Spectrum days, I've not bought bachmann since the discontinued Spectrum.  Bachmann didn't standardize on the placement of the tender connections and or decoders.  So I always kept the tender chassis, with the decoder, with it's original loca and just swapped tender bodies.

One one of mine the valve gear fell apart.  On the other, the DCC failed.  I combined the two together and now have one working loco, the other parts are on their way to Bachmann who said I could keep the loco and temder bodies as they have been customized, which was very good of them.

The problem link is from a small town newspaper in Missouri.  Here is another link about the same Missouri doodlebug wreck:

Remember , these gasoline cars were in the pre diesel era.  Small enough diesel prime movers didn't exist yet.

Some were later converted to diesel.  I have operated CNR 15824, which was originally a gas electric and later converted to diesel.

Yes.

Sid

Sid is correct, I have several brands of decoders, including those supplied by Bachmann and my NCE system controls all of them as does the club's Digitrax system as they are all built to the same NMRA standards.

Cheers.
