Large / Re: Annie 4-6-0 in 1:20.3 - how to do
March 02, 2013, 03:16:01 PM
Banta Modelworks sells wood cab conversions for several Bachmann units...their F/G  kits page implies that they are all 1:20.3 ....how ever I don't know for sure that the 10 wheeler cab is that size...there are phone numbers and email address  at the bottom of most pages.....if it turns out that that specific cab isn't the size you want but one of the others looks good to you than make that one fit...I have been thinking about possibly scaling one down to around 1:29 or so...to run with standard guage-ish  stuff...might just put smaller figures on it and call it a prototype ....stack change shouldn't take much work to adapt a bigger stack to your smoke box....how right it looks is how much work you want to do....you could go as far as to build a whole new body/boiler to go on your chassis if you wanted too...

Hope this is at least some help   :-\.....Later All ..... S.B.

I started "collecting" about 4 years ago now and though I have about 4 short strings of cars 5 locos and a plow, I still don't feel I have any where near enough as of yet, or at least I don't have what I think I should, most noteably, a layout to run on say for at Christmas around the tree....and under the table....and around the chair...this hobby can get addicting and yes...it is always changing....Have fun with it.......Later All.......S.B.

If you mean the front set of 4 wheels (the pilot truck or lead truck) then yes ....they are supposed to move side to side...It is so they can follow the track through curves and "lead" the loco through it.....on full scale(real ones)  the lead truck helped hold up the front of the loco and spread out its weight.....If this isn't right I am sure we will hear different real soon....Hope it is and hope this helps....Later All......S.B.

I still run the standard lights in my cars(for now) and off battery power.....I have however put one of those flickering leds inside the wood stove in each car that has one....just cut the little squares out in the bottom of the stove...real neat effect when the lights around you are off you can see the fire flicker inside the car...even more so when interior lights are off in the car....have also put one in a breakmans lantern...as I believe Kevin did...think it was Kevin...might have been Jeff/NM....any way...search for the post ...has a link to a vid of his guy with the lit lantern...
                    Later all....Merry Christmas                 S.B.

Your light problem is most likely broken or burnt out bulbs....or bad connection some where....turn the car over and remove the 8 or so screws that hold the body onto the chassis....then , with it still upside down, lift the chassis, "floor" and trucks out of the body....you will see the brass connections between the chassis and the body, on the sides....look to see that they aren't corroded...with the chassis and interior out of the way you can now see the inside of the roof and the light bulbs hidden up there....they are screw in bulbs....a piece of small diameter fuel line can be of help getting the bulbs out without breaking them...just push it down over the bulb and turn the commonly stubborn to remove bulb out.....best thing is to replace with led lights but the quick and easy way to fix this is to replace the bad bulbs .....clean contact points....and put in a new 9 volt battery........
hope this is of some help.......Later All....and Merry Christmas / happy holidays everyone...............S.B.

P.S.  call service dept. and ask if they have any of that part laying around....or see if anyone on here has one that they will part with......

Large / Re: spectrum 4-4-0
September 06, 2012, 06:33:18 PM
I don't have either of these so I cant say for sure, but it seems to me that since your problem is with the "center" driver, and the 4-4-0 has no center driver, that there shouldn't be an issue with it dropping below the rail head,as all drivers should be flanged.....If I am wrong I am sure we will find out shortly.....

Hope this is some help.....Later all.....S.B.

Large / Re: Circus cars
August 01, 2012, 07:39:14 PM
watch eBay carefully for a while......Bachmann Circus cars and locos are showing up all the time...there is a loco w/2 flat cars and a bobber caboose that showed up a few hours ago and I have seen at least a dozen zebra cars go in the last 6 - 12 months....2 different elephant cars ...a zebra car and a bobber floating around on there at the moment....just keep an eye on it on a regular basis....

Hope this is some help.....Later All......S.B.
