General Discussion / Hinged Layouts
April 19, 2007, 02:03:51 AM
Is there a good way to hinge a layout so it will fold in half to store when not in use?Or would it be easier to make it in sections for storage?

Hi again,
Anyways,I found some good deals on 4 differant passenger car sets.I'm planning on custom painting them for my #608 and #611 I just need some advise on what ones would look best and work best for lighting. They are all new with metal wheels.Sets come with 2 coaches,1 observation car,and 1 vista dome car. They kinda resemble the style of the Pohwatten Arrow.(I hope I spelled that right)I think they are made by Model Power.Any advice?
Thanks in advance!

N / MORE STUPID QUESTIONS!!!!
April 16, 2007, 05:03:21 AM
Hey again,
I know the questions just keep coming.I've got some basic electrical q's.
I know there is AC/DC/DCC and I'm not sure what else.Right now I'm running a standard transformer from a Yard Boss set.I'm not sure if it DC/or DCC.I'm wanting to run my #608 4-8-4 j I'm pretty sure this is DCC I also have switches, and soon lighted cars and houses.I have an old Tyco AC/DC transformer I could use but I'm sure I'd fry my train. This is something I do not want to do since I put so much time and effort into getting one for under $50.00(new)Can anyone please help me out?I'm sorry for so many questions.I would just rather ask people that know what they are doing instead of trial and error.(That only works on non-motorized modeling)Thanks in advance to all the great people that have been answering all my annoying questions!

N / Hi,I'm the new guy!
April 09, 2007, 06:14:51 AM
Hey everyone,
I'm new to the boards, new to the hobby.About as close as I got was the H/O scale sets I played with as a kid.I also collect vintage Transformers.I bought an old Tyco Transformer H/O set about a year ago and just saw the 4-8-4 J class recently and decided to give it a go.

I would of never thought I would be getting into a new hobby with the cost of my toy habit.I guess it was the awww feeling of the N&W #611 .I remembered the rush I felt going on board as a kid.It was one of the best memories of my life.I was scared to death when the initial blast of steam came out on take off.

If anyone could give me some pointers on cool products, compatability, and the differance between the modern 4-8-4 J and the classic. Also where to get the best deals on one.I'm running a 4-8-4 Northern temporarly. What is funny It calls for a 19'' radius and I run it wide open on 11.25 wityh no problems.

Anyway,Thanks for having me and sorry about the spelling!
                                                                     Respectfully,TGD
