I had one of these out of the box and in my hand yesterday at my locol hobby shop. I liked it, and although the detail is quite marginal, the cleaning pad is made out of a material that looks as though would no a nice job wet or dry. When I asked about replacement pads, I was told there are non available!

The price was reduced to about $30.00 ($37.95 MSRP) which I must say is a bit steep for what you are getting! Non the less, I would have bought one, if there had been replacement pads (as per the Walthers car)

Can anyone shed any light on the availability of replacment pads for the Bachmann track cleaning tank car!

Thanks,
Geoff

General Discussion / New Locomotive Suggestions
August 05, 2011, 04:24:04 PM
I have been in the hobby for many years and I have several groups of train buddies I hang out with and visit several on line blogs.

I would like to see Bachmann or anyone for that matter produce an HO Southern Pacific AC9 "Yellowstone" 2-8-8-4. It is a very unique looking locomotive and SP is a very popular road. I think it would sell in N scale also! There are few pictures of the Prototype available, so many may not even know what it looks like. Is is the only AC series that IS NOT a Cab Forward! It has a "skyline casing" running the length of the boiler like the GS4 and also has a front pilot similar to the GS4 with double air pumps up front!

I would also like to see a 2-6-2T or a 2-8-2T in HO and in On30! Great for small layouts and logging or mining operations.

Another suggestion would be a 2-4-4-2 "Little River" in both HO and On30! A small mallet that almost everyone could use.

That's wishful thinking?

HO / Spectrum Tenders with DCC & Sound!
November 09, 2010, 03:02:55 PM
I want to commend Bachman for the outstanding HO Spectrum DCC ready tenders they have offered as separate items! To my knowledge, no one has ever done this in the numbers and variety that Bachmann has.

Here is my suggestion!

Offer these same tenders with an appropriate Tsunami Sound decoder already installed as an accessory, ready to plug into any DCC or DCC ready Spectrum locomotive! In this way you could capture a market segment few have though about! It would offer loyal customers who have purchased your non sound Spectrum locomotives in the past a less expensive and simple way to upgrade their existing locomotives to sound! Keep them coming back!

HO / Lilliput Repairs and decoder installs
June 13, 2010, 11:03:54 AM
Although I am primarily an American prototype modeler, I do have a number of late model German loks! I have several Lilliput (Bachmann) locomotives! I would like to put decoders in them but getting them taken apart is a bit of a mystery on most? On one of my favorites I attempted to follow the instructions on getting to the 8 pin DCC plug but ended up having the fiber optic piece of plastic for the rear lights come out. Does anyone know of someone who can install decoder and do repairs and such to the newer Lilliput line? Surely Bachmann must have service available in the US for these products?

HO / #6 EZ Track with DCC
May 06, 2010, 02:36:57 PM
Despite my misgivings, I purchased one of these for a knock down test track to provide a parking siding for a few locos so they don't have to be taken on and off the track for speed matching etc! I have an NCE Power Cab that I use for any portable set up like this one and it also provides an additional Pro Cab on the main layout!

First of all, the turnout will not respond to my NCE cab, although it will cycle through it's movements through the 2 second hold on the fuction button on the turnout?

Second, I have a new Tsunami equiped Spectrum 2-6-6-2 with the Vandy tender and although it goes through the turnout forward and backward in the straight position, it will only go through the divergent position in forward. In reverse it derails every time? The tender gets through but not the trailing truck and drivers? Several F units go through fine and a Spectrum 4-6-0 has a little problem but will usually make it?

The 2-6-6-2 goes through my Peco #6  turnouts and even my Atlas #8's with no problem?

HO / EZ Track Sidings
April 28, 2010, 05:46:54 PM
I am trying to make up a medium length point to point "break down" test track with a single or double ended parallel siding using EZ Track? Apparently, there is nothing "easy" about the seemingly common task of bringing a track out of a switch and running it parallel to the main? Parallel sidings should be no big deal and I have been eyeing one or two EZ Track #6 turnouts for my siding. After spending a lot of time on line, on the Bachmann site and on this forum,  I was amazed that I could find no satisfactory answer? I read a lot of opinions and suggestions, "part of a 22" radius" or "part of a 26"" radius and even a suggestion of "part of an 18" radius?" On a #6 switch? Right? From what I have read here, there is no information in the Bachmann track book either? So Mr. Bachmann or any one else who really knows? What parts do I need to buy to assemble my siding? I would settle for a single ended but would prefer a double ended if possible?

Large / 2-6-6-2T Picture discrepancies
January 09, 2009, 04:06:51 AM
I had ordered a 2-6-6-2T from my local hobby shop for $650.00. I went and picked it up yesterday, and when I got it home, I was quite upset with the appearance of the locomotive. I had odered a #82895 Yellow Pine Lumber version specifically because I liked the red window frames in the cab but do not like all the pin striping and white sidewalls on the wheels that most of the other versions have. The picture on the box is the same one used on Bachmann's site with the red window frames, absolutely no pin striping and black wheels. It just so happens that my #82895 Yellow Pine Lumber has pin striping on the cylinders and white walls on all the wheels! When I use the manufacturer's picture to determine which version to buy I believe it is reasonable for those pictures to reflect the actual product I am ordering. I own a lot of Bachmann products and over all I am pleased with what they do but this really ******* me off! Now unless this is a mistake? My only choice seems to be return it for an all black undecorated version?

General Discussion / locomotive problems
July 25, 2008, 07:17:09 PM
I just purchased 4 HO Spectrum locomotives. All have DCC on board and one has sound. I have a 4-4-0 that runs pretty well for not being broke in and I have a 2-10-0 with sound that would not hardly move out of the box but with some patience and a little lurication, it is running better all the time. I also bought a Chinese Susquahana Mikado than ran for a few seconds and now just sits and buzzes? Finally, I  bought a 2-10-2 that jerks down the track and runs terribly. Any suggestions on the two I am having broblems with? I am running an NCE sytem.

Large / K-27 weathering
February 13, 2008, 11:07:06 PM
I was just looking around on eBay and came across a fantastic weathering job on a K-27. I already have one ordered but I kept the pictures as a reference. If you want to see an absolutely awesome K-27 look at this listing #150215915145 to get some ideas.

Large / 36 ton vs 38 ton Shay
February 13, 2008, 07:23:11 PM
If I am reading the posts correctly the trucks on the newer 38 ton Shay are quite an improvement over the trucks on the older 36 ton Shay? Is this correct? What other differences are there? I just purchased a Westside Lumber 38 ton Shay and I was wondering about the trucks? Also, are there  any other things I need to be concerned about or can I lube my Shay and start breaking it in?

Large / Quality
February 09, 2008, 07:33:55 PM
A am sixty years old and I have been a model railroader most of my life. I am primarily an HO modeler but I am also working on a small On30 layout because I love narrow gauge but I can't see HOn3. Now that an affordable segment of "large scale" is finally getting away from the toy like appearance it has perked my interests. Besides, I can actually see this stuff!  The Fn3 stuff has great detail and although Bachmann suggested retail prices are a joke, you can actually buy this stuff for a reasonable price. However, the more I read these posts, the more concerned I become about quality? There seems to be problems with so much of it! In HO and On30 I probable have fifty Spectrum steam locos and most are good to excellent. I just don't know about Fn3?

My experience so far is as follows. I just received my Bachmann 2-8-0 Connie and a Bachmann 1:20.3 box car. In addition I purchased a plastic caboose and stock car from Accucraft. The 2-8-0 is beautiful and appears to be a quality piece. Then I read the posts about the problems with it and it makes me wonder. What run do I have? What do I have to fix? The box car is another matter. One truck was not attached, I found the screw but not the washer in the box. One of the wheels is mounted crooked on an axle and wobbles as it turns. I could not straighten it out. One journal box cover is missing and one fell off. On the coupler lift bars, both pulled right out of the coupler pins. I have requested parts from Bachmann and I think the connectors can be glued back into the coupler pins? Not a good experience! The two Accucraft cars are superb with absolutely no issues and I paid less for the stock car than I paid for the Bachmann box car! I now have a Bachmann K-27 on order and after reading about all the problem with this item my concern is growing. I was also considering a 38 ton Shay or a Heisler but I just don't know? Reading these posts reminds me of Microsoft and their habit of releasing products that where not ready and let the customers sort it out with help from product support!

I guess I need some reassurance from someone that I have not purchased a bunch of problems?

Large / Coupler replacement for Spectrem 2-8-0 Connie
February 08, 2008, 09:49:17 PM
Hello group! I am sure somone must have addressed this issue already but I could not find it? I just received a new 1:20.3 2-8-0 and it is a beauty! However, the couplers are way too low for my rolling stock and the front coupler also sticks out too far! I would appreciate suggestions for replacing both couplers. Thank you........

HO / New GS4 Daylight
February 01, 2008, 05:20:08 PM
I just received my brand new DCC GS4 Daylight 4449 and I will not even take it out of the clear plastic package. It will be returned! The color absolutely sucks! The red which actually has a tint of orange in it on the prototype is closer to purple on this model. It looks terrible. I don't know how Bachmann could have gotten this so wrong? Are there any plans to correct this major screw up to what otherwise looks like a vastly improved model. I probably own 35 Spectrum steamers in HO and On30 and most are excellent. To mess up this bad on a locomotive that is this popular and noted for it's beautiful paint is hard to understand? If anyone has seen it you know what I am talking about. Help!
