N / Siemens SC-44 Lighting Question
March 03, 2023, 04:28:24 AM
It appears that the corridor lights are always on and the emergency strobe only comes on after stopping (and stays on until the locomotive starts moving again). Is there any way to control that behavior or is that all just automated?

Thanks,
-Mark

Anybody know how to get the shell off of one of these?

The list of features for the N scale DCC-Sound 2-8-0 states "detailed cab interior", however mine is not so equipped. I'm guessing this was a copy/paste error from the HO version's feature list?

The feature list also states "die-cast, fine-scale driver spokes" which I'm guessing is a copy/paste error as well (if the implication is that the spokes aren't cast right into the driver face).

N / Question for Yardmaster re 4-4-0
May 22, 2018, 09:56:10 AM
The picture on your website for the Santa Fe 4-4-0 (model 51152) looks very different from previous versions. Is that a new N scale model or is it just a picture of the HO model?

Thanks,

N / New N scale GP40
January 13, 2018, 08:10:07 AM
Yard Master, I just recently acquired one of your new GP40's (the one with the completely revised internals) and I noticed that the instruction sheet says that it "MAY be equipped with a smoke generating feature". Since it's not a steam locomotive, I assume this is just some boilerplate text that comes with all models, and that smoke generating diesels are not in our future. Is that correct?

Thanks,

N / GG-1 Question
November 19, 2016, 01:43:02 PM
In the list of features for the N scale GG-1, Bachmann states "twin operating metal pantographs that can be powered by overhead wire if desired". Was this a copy/paste error from the feature list for the HO version? In looking at my N scale GG-1, I don't see any electrical connectivity between the pantographs and the locomotive PC board.

Thanks,

N / Problems with brand new DCC-Sound SD45
December 09, 2015, 07:55:40 PM
I'm having problems with my new DCC-Sound SD45. It performs fine when running by itself, but suffers frequent stalls when I hook up cars to it. And the more cars I hook up, the more frequently it stalls. The problem is even worse when attempting to push (as opposed to pull) the cars.

For example, with thirty assorted 40' freight cars in tow (forward direction) it will stall and then restart maybe once while making a circle around my layout. When attempting to back up with the same number of cars, it will stall and restart repeatedly until finally stalling out entirely (IE I have to go rescue it manually).

This is the second one of these I've tried and both have exhibited the same symptoms. Other locomotives (with or without sound) perform just fine on my layout.

Anybody else run into these sorts of problems? Anybody have one that doesn't have these sorts of problems? Any suggestions from Yardmaster?

Thanks,
-Mark

N / 0-6-0 / 2-6-2 New Motor?
August 03, 2015, 09:25:57 PM
I see that y'all are selling this from the parts department -

Is that new (smaller) motor available in actual models now? Retailer-wise, no one seems to know anything about it.

N / Bachmann DD40AX Coupler Question
September 10, 2014, 05:04:26 PM
I'm a bit confused re the coupler situation on the latest (DCC-equipped) version of Bachmann's Double-D. My understanding hitherto has been -

1st run - one-piece knuckles on the model and ala-carte Rapidos in the box
2nd run - one-piece knuckles on the model and ala-carte E-Z Mates in the box

All well and good, but today I got an email from a guy who said that his came with E-Z Mates on the model and Rapidos in the box. Is this a 3rd run? Or... what? Anybody else bought one lately?

Thanks!

N / Rock Island GP7?
February 19, 2014, 09:40:04 AM
The recent release of GP7's did not include the announced Rock Island version. Did that cancelled or is it just coming in a later shipment?

N / N Scale S-4 - Speed Control?
August 20, 2013, 07:51:00 AM
Looking at the docs for the S-4 decoder, it appears that the only CV available for adjusting speed control is CV2 (vstart). Without having access to CV6 (vmid), CV5 (vmax) or any of the speed table CV's, is there any way to change the overall speed spectrum of the locomotive? For example, if I wanted a higher top-end speed or wanted to speed-match it with another loco?

Thanks,

N / Old Locomotive Packaging
May 12, 2007, 08:29:13 AM
OK, this is probably me finally going off the deep end, but I'm wondering about Bachmann's old locomotive packaging.

Mainly I'm interested in their line of cheapie "train set" locomotives ((IE, not Bachmann Plus and not Spectrum). As near as I can tell, there were four basic packages used from 1968 up until around 2001 (when everything was switched over to the fancy jewell cases with the blue paper inserts):

Can anybody help me to put approximate dates to these? I believe the "upright" one (top-most) was used for the first couple of years (1968-1970), and that the white cardboard box was the most recent (in use up until around 2001). Beyond that, I have no idea. Any help?

Thanks,
-Mark
