I was watching a German program that showed a product I thought was handy. It is a car that you can hook up to your train and it lay's ballast down. I don't know if you might like it, but I think it would be helpful for those hard to reach places.

On30 / On30 4-4-0 into a 8-18c?
February 15, 2013, 12:46:42 PM
Would it be possible to turn a Bachmann On30 IF 4-4-0 into an 8-18c 4-4-0. I don't know if it's possible, but it looks as a if you shortened the back head up a little it could be molded into one. I am aware that the motor is back there, but could that also be moved.

Thanks

General Discussion / 19th century cab colors?
May 04, 2012, 06:17:53 PM
Did the engines back in the 19th century have cab color green or, was it just stained wood or something. I've seen on the V&T Inyo, and Reno, they had cab green, but it looked rather blueish in tent. Thanks for any help.

I've always wonderd what the extra two levers were, that connect to the safety valves of a 19th century steam locomotive. Are they emergency relief handles for manually opening up the safeties in case they don't pop, or do they serve a different purpose?

On30 / In a plead for a 8-18c.
January 04, 2012, 09:05:21 PM
Bachmann

I am begging you for some equipment from the 19th century. Primarly the 8-18c 4-4-0. It sadly doesn't look as if MMI will produce many of the engine. It would be most awesome if you could make this engine, and offer it in sound! Many people including my self would love to see this engine in production. I understand you already have the cute IF 4-4-0 and the horrid OF 4-4-0, but it wouldn't hurt to add one more 4-4-0 to the line of products already in use. If you're not willing to pass on the request for the 8-18c 4-4-0 how about the 8-18d 2-6-0 which could be converted in the 8-18c without much hassle.

Please Bachmann I beg you to make this engine, and I rather not be so immature about it as I was last time with 4-6-0, which I do not take credit for.

THanks

Does anyone know what I should do to change whistle sounds for my bachmann On30 DCC/sound 4-6-0? I am using a NCE powercab, and is my first DCC sound engine ever. I love it so far, but trying to figure out how the whistle sounds are changed is puzzling me. How would I change the CV code, or what ever it is I need to change in order to receive the Baldwin 3chime whistle that is on#12. I don't like the default 5chime to well

I know I'm dropping pennys down a well, but since Bachmann made a 4-4-0 "not the one everyone was hopping for"; but would ya'll consider making a locomotive for the people who model the the late 1800s such as the 8-18d 2-6-0. I have recently changed era's would like to model 1908 with 2 4-4-0s from MMI, and a c-16 and 8-18d. People I think have wanted a updated 2-6-0 ;) I'm not sure if there is going to be a lot of people who would like to see this engine made, but I would like to see it produced; and at least try to throw the suggestion in and see if it catches on :)

By the way, how are MMI 4-4-0s? I am on the edge of buying one, but don't know how well the quality is. I also read something about "Model features include can motors and are DCC ready with GME cam and drilled tender" and I don't know what it means by cam and drilled tender; i hope it doesn't have a cam shaft sticking out of the tender leading to the engine to power it.

Thanks

I need replacement cab windows for my ten wheeler. I kinda screwed up mine trying to hand paint my locomotive. Does anyone know where I can find replacements? I tried ebay, and I don't think parts and services sales them either.

Thanks

On30 / Help finding snowy/winter ballest.
April 19, 2011, 10:06:17 PM
Does anyone know of a good ballast, or product that is great for making a snow like ballast? I'm told baking soda is not the best thing to use. MY layout is part winder/fall, and will have some snowy areas.

Also what color would best be used in an Autumn type scene. My layout is based in the sand hills/swamps of NC.

On30 / Painting Window Trim. I need a little help.
March 06, 2011, 01:54:07 PM
Can ya'll tell me your methods for painting window trim on locomotive cabs? I don't know why I ordered an all black locomotive, but I did. I tried paiting the window trim a nice red, but in the end I got paint on the windows, and it looks as if a murder happend in the cab. I found out wood, is the best bet for getting the paint off without scratching the windows. I hand painted it them. As of now I have no air paint gun to paint anything with, and I really do need to invest in one.

By the way; does bachamnn's parts & services have windows? I broke one in half :P ???

Thanks

If you want to stay warm from the snow and cold, take the cab of a 2-6-0 and pop that sucker on the 0-4-0, and bam, all weather cab. just super glue it down though, it's not a tight fit. Would love to show you a pic of mine, but no camera again. :-\

Since there are two versions of 4-4-0 offered, why not two versions of 2-8-0s? The outside frame engine is too much south of the boreder for me, so how'a'bout ET&WNC #6, or Lawdale #4?

I don't want to see any of those colorodo engines. They're annoying, and modeled tooooo much, so go with something more out of the ordinary. Besides, #6 can be fashioned into a colorodo engine with no problem.

November 07, 2010, 10:13:22 PM
I'm attempting to walscharters valve gear on my 2-6-0 with out having to take another locomotive apart to do so. Are there any kits out there for me to do so or am I going to have to scratchbash it?

On30 / On30 OF 2-8-0 Cab on the 2-6-0
September 08, 2010, 11:16:58 AM
I have to say, this engine is cute! After taking my 2-8-0 apart to find it wasn't fixable by me, I decided to use it for parts, here. It just so happens the cab fits the boiler of the 2-6-0. The end result is a cute little bugger perfect for any short, or branchline a railroad has. I will post a picture as soon as I can get a chance; has anyone else done this?

On30 / ET&WNC Color Schemes. Hobbs era!
April 20, 2010, 10:03:12 PM
This is topic is for the discussion of the ET&WNC Green Scheme. I don't want to hijack another thread.

I personally think the boiler was American Iron in color, or might have had green put on, but as the boiler heated up, the green darkend. I have the book "The Blueridge Steamwinder" by John Wait. The cover seems to have the proper color. I have also seen a video on youtube showing #14 with a green cab, and a gun metal blueish looking boiler, as well as the Tennessee Narrow Gauge, I have, showing the ten wheelers in WWII with the black cab, and a gun metal blue boiler.

Speaking of the wheel barrow, it was made from the boiler of one of the locomotives, and it is a very dark blueish color as well.

I hope this somewhat helps

On30 / Parts for On30 geared engines.
April 17, 2010, 01:39:42 PM
Please Bachmann, could you possibly think about producing replacement parts for the 0n30 geared engines. I am having the most trouble with my Climax. I love this little engine, but the universal joint broke is broke, and the connecting piece to the wheels is stripped. Could you please consider making replacement parts. Or, could you make the parts out of a diecast steel, or something to begin with?

On30 / Help Please! My 4-6-0 is messed up.
March 28, 2010, 02:50:34 AM
Folks, I really hate to say this, but my beautiful 4-6-0 which i just lettered for the Barefoot & Southern is messed up. I'm not sure what happend. I set her on the tracks and was about to test my grade on the line, so I cranked up the power then all of a sudden I hear a humming sound, then the controller shorts out. So I check the tracks to see if any rails, or anyother metal objects are over the tracks; nope, that was clear. I tryed again, and the same thing happend, this time the locomotive's head lamp didn't even light up, and shorted out the controller again. I inspected the engine to find that the insulation around one of the tenders wires to the locomotive was coming loose away from the plug. Could this be the culprit?

Thanks for any help

ps. another dumb question. Could I return the locomotive if I have already lettered it, and modified the cab and front truck.
