General Discussion / Air Compressors and Pneumatic Drills
November 11, 2007, 08:35:04 PM
Does anyone know where I might find information, and preferably pictures about the Mobile Air Compressors, and associated Pneumatic Drills used in the quarrying and mining industry up until around 1950 ?

Having limited access to resources it would be better if it was available on the internet. So far I have been on Wikipedia etc, and found one picture of each.

Thanks

On30 / IF YOU WERE BACHMANN'S CFO
November 03, 2007, 09:15:06 PM
If you were Bachmann what would be your next loco in On30 ? This means your head [profit] has to rule your heart. Which loco would make the most money.?

USA is their largest single market, but their non-US business is developing, and they want to appeal to a wider audience.

Personally, I think a larger non-tender loco is missing from the roster, like a Baldwin 4-6-0 or Alco 2-6-2, which were widespread after WW1.

But probably a 3-truck Shay would please the boss.

So, based on a one loco suggestion it would be the Shay.

What do you guys propose ?

General Discussion / explosives trains/wagons
October 01, 2007, 04:18:33 AM
Does anyone have any information on trains being used to transport explosives ? I am thinking in particular of mine/quarry narrow gauge trains where the explosives and detonators would be transported to the mine in specialised wagons.

I have seen something before which looked like a locker on wheels which was heavily protected and padlocked.

All help welcome.

BTW I forgot to thank those who replied to my previous request for information on cab and backhead details. Belated thanks.

General Discussion / cab/backhead details
September 11, 2007, 06:52:02 PM
I want to add more details to the cabs and backheads of my locomotives, but need more information.

I have Googled images and the best I can find are of Cass No 5. However, I do not know how representative it is for different loco types. As I am not modelling a specific prototype I guess I have some flexibility.

Grandt lines produce backhead details for the Porter, but I am also interested in the Shay, Climax, and Mogul.

Is there a reference source including the various functions of pipes, levers etc ?

HO / eight-coupled dimensions

Hi Bach Man. Can I get the actual wheel diameters and wheel base dimensions for the eight coupled HO locos to see how suitable as a base for a On30 project. ? Tks

General Discussion / porter information
June 29, 2007, 10:34:12 PM
Does anyone know where I might find information on Porter locomotives. I am interested in the 0-8-0 saddle tanks built around beginning of 1900's for Alishan Mountain Rly in Taiwan. Can't find anything on internet.
