I really can't believe I'm doing this. The first Plasticville forum post in 3 years. But it IS a legit question, ha.

I literally just found a few remarkably preserved 1940s (I think 1948, because a catalog was with them) models in a tote in my grandparent's (luckily, climate controlled) storage unit. Is there anything I should do to them? The paint is in good condition, the plastic is NOT brittle, somehow, and very few pieces are missing.

I still can't believe I'm making this post.

HO / Bachmann 2-8-4 Berkshire
February 15, 2023, 09:55:18 AM
Does anyone on this forum have a Bachmann model of the Berkshire? I found a guy on Ebay selling one with DCC, unlettered, listed as a "PROJECT". Just wanted to get some reviews on it since they're always sold out on the Bachmann website.

General Discussion / Bachmann online store question
February 14, 2023, 11:06:15 PM
Is it just me, or does the bachmann online store just not list their major prime mover units like the ES44ACe and Dash-whatever units? Just saying this because I know they sell them, they're just not on the store. Or Im just blind and missing them somewhere.

just random thoughts.

General Discussion / Southern Pacific question
February 08, 2023, 09:41:05 AM
If you're a Southern Pacific fan, what piece of rolling stock or motive power would you like to see made by Bachmann? They already have an SP GP40, a few different steam locos, and a 70-tonner, but that's it.

I, personally, would like to see an SD70ACe UP 1996 (Southern Pacific heritage unit) or a Dash 9 with the bloody nose and speed lettering.

HO / EMD E3 & E4 Diesel-Electric Streamliners
February 08, 2023, 09:19:42 AM
Sooooo..... random question for the ENTIRE board.

Who would like to see...
  • EMD E3 A and B units in HO scale in MoPac Blue, ACL (Atlantic Coast Line), SF Warbonnet, and KCS colors,
  • E4 A/B units for the SAL (Seaboard Air Line)
  • E1A/E1B units in B&O colors?

I've noticed that only one company (Broadway Limited, so $$$$) makes E1A, E1B, and E3 units. No one makes the E4.

For reference, here is a SAL Orange Blossom Special E4 A unit.

Here is a SF Warbonnet E3 A-B setup for a passenger train.

Here is a KCS E3 A unit, illustrated. (No color pictures of a real KCS E3, only Black/White pics)

Here is a B&O E1A

Here is a MoPac E3

Here is an ATL E3

The only exterior differences between the E3 and E4 are the headlights, and the E4 has a door on the nose.

I hope y'all consider this. If I get enough "Yes"s, I'll contact Bachmann with a product suggestion.
Hopefully, if they do decide on it, Bachmann would post them at prices similar to their other HO diesels.

General Discussion / Bachmann SD70ACe DCC/Sound issue
February 07, 2023, 07:46:06 PM
I have a brand new Bachmann SD70ACe with DCC and SoundValue. Just put it on the track, programmed it on my EZCommand DCC controller (yeah, it sucks), and ran it on a small(er) layout. As soon as it hit the track, I knew something was wrong because there was no sound. I tried unmuting it - no good. I know the speaker is on the bottom of the fuel tank, but other than that, I don't know anything about this locomotive. What should I do? (I'd love to NOT send it to Bachmann)

Thanks,
Quentin

General Discussion / Rivarossi NKP #765 Berkshire
February 06, 2023, 02:36:24 PM
#1 - Good to be back, finally.

#2 - I got a Rivarossi NKP #765 Berkshire (on ebay, but I know the guy)(long story).
It works, sort of. I need to know, does the loco get power from the tender, or does it have its own pickups?

Also, have Bachmann's prices risen on their HO steamers? Specifically the 4-6-2s, J-classes, Berkshires, 4-4-0s, and 0-6-0s.

Thanks!

I am looking for an HO scale model of the Orange Blossom Special to add to my 1930's-40's Seaboard line layout, but I am having no luck whatsoever. Specifically, I want the classic Orange body with green and red stripes alongside the loco and cars, which was ran from 1925 - 1953. It seems like no company has made a model of it, and if this is true, may I request that Bachmann create one?

Hey all,
I need to know how to pop open the shell of the Rail Chief EMD GP40 loco. My little brother dropped the thing and knocked something loose inside, so I need inside to repair it. Surprisingly, the shell didn't take any damage from the fall. I searched for any screws holding it on, or those clips that are on other locos. Nothing.

Thanks,

General Discussion / Here's a question (surprising?)
August 05, 2020, 01:36:02 PM
I am looking for a live steam train set, one of those that you can ride on. I know this isn't Bachmann related, but it's train related so I put it here.

Let me know if you know anyone or any website you know that does sell those.

Thanks!

Hey guys, me again lol. I got this train, NOT SURE HOW OLD, but what I do know is that this loco is an F-7 diesel that runs smoothly, but it clicks as it's going down the tracks, and NO, IT'S NOT the tracks making the clicks. It's something in the drive wheel housing. Something in there is catching, but i cant take it off... anyone know how to get the stupid thing off??

Thanks!

General Discussion / Another engine not working!!!
April 28, 2020, 05:50:23 PM
Well, this time it is a F9 B&O engine, and it is an oldie. The thing lights up, but nothing else even moves. Any suggestions?

I am looking for a B&O passenger set to add to my B&O section of my layout. Any suggestions to where I can find one?

I have the overland limited steamer set (description on page 43 in the 2020 bachmann catalog), and it says that there is working smoke. Well, I have ran this thing for about 4 weeks now. I got this set wrapped up in newspaper from my grandpa, so I don't have the box or the instruction booklet to tell me how to work it! What should I do to fix the smoke, since none has come out to of the thing?

p.s.- I seem to have a lot of problems with trains today, don't I?

So, I have this loco with DCC already installed, but I need to get down into the inner "guts" of the loco and do a little refurbishing on it. What is the best way to remove this thing without damaging it or taking anything off of it? I feel like I'm overlooking something, but I am not sure.

I have an Santa Fe F9 diesel loco that will not roll. When I crank up the power to the loco, it will start up and the light will light up, but it will not roll. This also has a DCC installed which is preventing me from viewing the engine. I have also checked the wheels to make sure they are still in working condition and they are. Any suggestions??
