Large / Query; "G scale crossing gate" PN: BCH96214
January 09, 2024, 04:24:24 AM
On a vendors webpage, they state "This product is only compatible with Bachmann Steel Alloy Track"

Has anyone successfully upgraded it to brass track (swap out the steel'),  or configured it electrically(?) to work with brass ?

Thanks

No mention in their online features listing,  so presume manufacturers' design group were unable to feasibly or economically design the model with opening doors  !?

Have any of the manufacturers of a 'plug-style'door rolling stock unit, ever been successful ?

. . . " Canada's LARGEST Model Train Show " ;

SUPERTRAIN 2023 ======>  http://supertrain.ca/

April 15th 0900 MDT,  when the doors open to allow the line-up to enter to participate in the first day of what I also label as 'our' 'International All Scales Train Show",  it will have been approx. 1460 days since 'our' previous SUPERTRAIN  !

~ Organizers/Hosts >  C M R S  membership volunteers > https://supertrain.ca/About.html

~ 2023 Exhibitors, listings & floor plan >   https://supertrain.ca/Exhibitors-D.html
(best to tap on 'here.' which take ya to *.pdf-based listing, as 'Floor plan' only shows acronym of exhibitor)

~  General Info >  https://supertrain.ca/Info.html
( which also includes access to the fantastic 'collage' SUPERTRAIN poster,  said to be created by the wife of 'our' committee chair', ....and gives ya an opportunity to assist in advert' this comeback show yr. by printing off _?,  and finding regional community interest bulletin board(s) to post it on.     So far {as a free-lance ST' show promoter LoL} I've personally printed off,  and posted 6 within north central Calgary, with likely at least another 3 to print/post, me thinks. 8-)            This yr we're hoping also the exhibitors (& anyone else) will want to assist with this promo' activity,  since the past 3 yrs. with no shows 'our' society bank acc't got beaten up so only accessed from a printer contractor,  a couple hundred handouts vs 1000s and maybe a couple dozen posters for committee member CIBB postings !     Thanks for your help, or at least consideration.  8-)

!  ~ The regional G-gauge railway club 'RMGR' of course is back, their layout will be about a third smaller than normal but they will be there !
(typically larger layouts will be smaller since due to 'our' bank acc't casualty, it was decided to reduce the show footprint by a third, which saved CMRS 50% in typical 'footprint' rental cost for this 'comeback' year !!
~ The private individual 'Big Boy' display is back again.
~ Piko Corp. rep'  is unable to make it up here this yr. within the booth of their vendor of choice w/confirmation to my email query by Piko sales rep';
" We won't be at Supertrain this year, but I know Johnny and crew will put on a good showing " > HobbyTech Canada - a local vendor of Piko & LGB  !
~ Last week, I reached out to AccuCraft sales via email since they have attended ST' in the past,  to ask if they were embedded with a vendor,  but they still have no one responding to emails yet   tsk tsk  ;-)

~ Eight 'Food Trucks' to access refreshments and food stuffs,  again this yr.  8-)

~ Also no bus shuttle service this year.    So still on-site free parking, but the access line will be busier than
previous yrs. !!
Even I may not find a spot offsite, further away 'cross the street where  members/volunteers/exhibitors are instructed to park,  to allow the general admission public closer prkg.
So I may also opt' ====> to take a train to a train show  8-) ....
CalgaryTransit LightRailTransit (adult $3.60cdn one way) to the last station "SaddleTowne" on the CT 'BlueLine', which is less than a direct 15min. stroll to the Genesis Centre 'SUPERTRAIN' venue.
https://www.calgarytransit.com/content/t...asses.html
I would park in one of the designated 'free' slots at their  McKnight-Westwinds LRT station parking lot (first station to the south of 'SaddleTowne' to catch a train to the show' venue station.
https://www.calgarytransit.com/content/t.../home.html
Trip Planner > tested using 'McknightWestWindsLRT'  To  'GenesisCentre falconridge' > Date (apr 15) + possible depart time (ex. 830am)> LRT icon > Plan your trip icon  =   0845am Train 202    with the stroll from SaddleTowne Station  be at the show entrance moments after 0900 am !
I also tried the bus option but with the stops & least one transfer to another bus(route) and at least 10min. longer even, if they are all on sched' and ya wish to view the neighbourhood by road  vs train !?
I'll be personally going with the train option from the McKnight-Westwinds option,  if need be !!    8-)

This show is going to be slightly different,    but still a whole lot of 'Fun for All Ages '  !!

general info; http://www.supertrain.ca/Info.html

exhibitors; http://www.supertrain.ca/Exhibitors-Category-2016.html

{and yes the last northeast line LRT station is less than a 10min. stroll from the show venue if ya wish to (pay'n)ride a train to a train show and eliminate the stress of finding a parking spot}

Personally refer to our show as a InternationalAllScalesTrainShow since we do have exhibitors and attendees from all over ... someone mentioned to me of a railfan planning to attend from Australia this yr.

p.s.
food trucks are back and the long range weather forecast looks great for them,

Large / 4-6-0, circus #49, chassis upgrade ?
October 28, 2013, 07:11:23 PM
Would chassis cat. listed CH-90047 (which i presume at 50usd) would be metal side rods & upgraded nether regions, (since over a decade ago the original #49 was built) be compatible  ?

According to their cat'  further into it the shell is  "Model: 900XX-LS-90020 ".

Hearing about their 20% sale till the 2nd has me looking  (also at what I maybe/should buy as spares from the RailTruck dept., as i do now have a unit heading this way)

Thank you for any info/input !

doug c

p.s. this loco plus tender actually has never been run !

Large / 4-6-0 chassis composition ?
April 15, 2013, 05:04:30 PM
The CH-900xx series of  4-6-0 chassis  that we see in the parts catalog ...is that of the recent metal drivers/siderods era   or the early plastics  ??
Probably dependent on which one  ehhhh !?

I have one of the early plastic  circus locos and was thinking chassis change .. to metal !!?
hmmm I guess I should look at what CH-***** that was and then what maybe compatible from stock B'mann chassis line-up.

Thanks for any info,

doug c

Exhibitors: http://www.supertrain.ca/Exhibitors-Name-2013.html

Since I'm running late with this I'll 'KeepItSimple'  ::)

other than a few more G-gauge pics from last yr, which you can possibly view in here; http://www.largescalecentral.com/galler ... rtdir=desc  !

Sadly does not look like Bachmann made the 'cut' again this year { apply earlier ... like sept/early oct ! }
But I'm sure at least a couple resellers will have a pc. or two to offer the thousands in attendance   :)

Maybe see ya here,

"G-Gauge may not RULE, but it GROWS on YA !! " djc'99

p.s. i was pleasantly surprised to see on the exhibitors/layouts listing, http://www.supertrain.ca/Exhibitors-2011.html (even though smaller scale) of successful acquisition of booth space by a PA, u.s.a. based manufacturer to attend our show even though it overlaps with a TCA meet in York, PA ! Also of another european-based manufacturer that was successful this yr !  I don't see that Bachmann were successful in acquiring booth space even though other all-scale manufacturers were   . .  that said I'm sure the various vendors in atteandance will try their best to compete with the others who could show !   Granted  the "Exclusive"  Canadian distributor of  1-2 other LS manufacturers declared a sched' conflict, so will not attend for the second yr in a row !

p.p.s personally I'm hoping for a combination of cool temps but no snow, for the weekend to ensure a similiar attendance like last yr., of over 10 thou' !

My oldest "Bachmann" catalog is 2003 (likely a comp. during eclsts)  obviously has no reference to them  nor do they seem to be in a  '98 walthers  "big trains" catalog !

Nor any online searches {neither here or google.ca} although I do think someone last yr. (?)  asked about them tooo !?

thanks for any info

Large / "Fall SWGRS at the FairPlex"

"Fall SWGRS at the Fairplex"
In the initial post on a thread on the MLS site, http://www.mylargescale.com/Communit...3/Default.aspx ,
Bachman (i presume this is Bachmann) was listed as one of (the many) manufacturers, part of a very impressive lineup to be exhibiting at their fall show.

Is Bachmann (or designates) actually going to make this show on the west coast !?

Thanks for any info !
doug c

p.s. would prefer to see ya at the Fall eclsts (for dem fine lookin' tanker show cars, and of course visiting with east coast friends) but that conflicts with 'grape harvest and thanksgiving' road trip. SWGRS better (possibility) timeline and just one chk of base airfare to LAX is like $200 cheaper than to either MDT or BWI !

HO / Spectrum, GP-30 Diesel . . . . .
March 07, 2009, 02:40:08 PM
 . . . . Reading #5520   item No. 41-0823-10

Upon closer inspection of  a seemingly (expected)  mint/unused unit,  I noticed  "crazing" of the engine cab.

Is this specific to this particular piece ?

Was this spectrum run plagued with a bad paint job !

The final end-user will not have to weather the cab much anyways !

Thanks for your time and any info,

p.s.
"In 2008, I saw three manufacturers of LS product attend SUPERTRAIN; Sunset Depot (regional), P&J CustomCastings (Canada's W.coast), and of course AccuCraft (with VP of Sales, up from LasVegas).

As far as the organizers of the show were aware, NO small scale manufacturer could be bothered. Albeit, I was the one to enlighten them about the three LS manufacturers in attendance at ST'08 !

Even though the whole weekend outdoors was one huge early spring (freak) snowstorm, officially 8700 members of the public came thru the doors at our new venue. And the vendor feedback indicated they were very happy with the business generated by the MR enthusiasts who call G-Gauge/Garden Railways their hobby (and even the small scale vendors were quite happy)! "‏

I was recently informed that (at least) 3 small scale manufacturers have signed on for the 2009 show !

Yes CN Sarcee is south and west of this new location. You may at the very least see some mixed rolling stock and their yard engines !

Prospective exhibitors/manufacturers/vendors who in the past may have automatically received, 'would ya like to attend packages'. You don't get them no more! YOU have to initiate request now ! Sorry, but the show IS that big now !!
