General Discussion / Exhaust Steam injectors
August 31, 2011, 11:21:33 PM
Hey,
I remember reading somewhere that White Pass 71 ( or maybe 70) at one time had a exhaust steam injector on it, and that it was the only NG loco ever built with one. Can anyone shed some light on this ?
   Thanks!

General Discussion / USRA locomotive drawings
April 17, 2011, 12:52:45 PM
Does anyone know if there are prototype drawings out there for the USRA heavy 2-10-2 and the USRA heavy 4-8-2? Maybe in the the railroad encyclopedia that model railroader put out?   I have the encyclopedia by mainline modelers and they are not included in them.
  Thanks!

I know this is crazy but I have heard several strong rumors about a Southern railway locomotive  overturned many years ago and is in the river along the NS mainline a little west of Asheville. It is most likely burried in the mud, but I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on this
Also I've heard several people talk about a hudson or possibly a pacific in the woods or possibly a barn in Ohio.  Anyone heard this ?
I don't want to open a rumor mill thing here, but would be interested if anyone had heard about any of these. I know that they are both probably not true, and am not trying to say they are, but I am just curious about them, or any other similar types of " lost " engines.

General Discussion / Southern 630 work!?
April 22, 2010, 10:04:01 PM
Was wondering if anyone has any really recent pictures or information on the TVRM restoration of SRR 630?  They don't update their website with photos too much. How is it coming?
   Thanks

General Discussion / Southern 4501?
January 25, 2010, 09:18:12 PM
So I have seen several pictures of 4501 at TVRM stripped down. Are there any plans on restoration?  Also I heard something about TVRM trying to acquire GSMRR SRR 722 ? IT seems if there were some plans for mainline excursions in the long run that maybe the A&WP 290 or even C&O 614 might be good candidates.
Was just wondering... Thought someone on here might know. I know they have been busy at work to get the 630 out hopefully by next summer in time for the 610 to be taken down.
   Thanks!

Large / ball bearing wheels and kadee couplers
November 07, 2009, 08:23:38 PM
I have several1/20.3 bachmann hoppers and a few aristo craft heavy weight pullmans, and I am also thinking of buying a few accucraft 1/20.3 narrow gauge cars.
What is the best solution to make them roll better?   I know aristo and several other companies make ball bearing wheel sets. What bearings/ wheel sets do you recommend ?

Also I wanted to convert all the cars to kadee couplers. What number couplers do you recommend for these cars ?
Thanks!

HO / DCC sound install/ brass work
November 07, 2009, 10:02:13 AM

I was wondering, are there any companies you would recommend to do soundtraxx installs? Also a company that specializes in custom painting/decaling/weathering and mechanical/detailing work on models mainly brass, but also plastic ?
    Thanks!

General Discussion / USRA locomotive question
October 29, 2009, 01:02:16 PM

If I remember correctly the USRA light mikado and light mountain had basically the same diameter boiler, but the mountains was longer and had a bigger firebox.   Is this also true with the USRA heavy mikado and heavy mountain? please correct me if that is incorrect.   Also are there any prototype drawings out there for the heavy mountain or heavy pacific ?

Large / best sources of detailing parts
May 24, 2009, 12:54:13 PM
Hey,
I have several locomotives that are in need to some major detailing. Some are aristocraft others are bachmann.  What sources are there for detailing parts ? I've found ozark miniatures, but they really do not have much for the standard side of things. Any other good sources ?

Hey I was wondering which locomotive cylcoledia  is the one to have.     There is this one:
Model Railroader Cyclopedia, Volume 1: Steam Locomotives
By Linn H. Westcott
and volume 2 which covers diesels.
Then there is the one from mainline modelers called " Locomotive Cyclopedia" vol 1 and 2.
Which are the better ones ?

Thanks

General Discussion / N&W Hoppers and N&W Class A specs
January 27, 2009, 05:06:32 PM

So I was wondering what the most common hopper type used on the N&W was ? I was thinking maybe a H2 class 40ft 3 bay, but were the 2bay 34fts more common ?
Also does anyone know of a source of drawing for N&W locomotives, principally the A class 2-6-6-4 ?
               Thanks,

Large / ET&WNC paint scheme
October 05, 2008, 12:23:06 PM
While I realize that the majority of the ET&WNCs locomotives were painted black for most of their lives. There were I believe 2 different green paint schemes used on the railroad's 4-6-0s....Was this actual southern green used with gold lettering, red/white trim? Also was the boiler russian iron or also painted ?
This leads to question does anyone make correct southern railroad green. I personally think the paint sold by weaver models is very close but maybe a tad light... ?
   Thanks

HO / tender doghouses
March 19, 2008, 03:50:19 PM

I am in the process of detailing some locomotives and need a source for tender doghouses. The only 1 I could find was a PRR style from cal scale I believe.
     Any ideas ?
Also has anyone done a SRR Ks, Ks-1, or Ks-2  2-8-0 in HO brass ?  I am seriously thinking about how I could change the Bachmann 2-8-0 to SRR valve gear.

General Discussion / TVRM SRR 630 restoration
March 17, 2008, 09:33:47 PM

How is the SRR 630's restoration at TVRM coming along ?
I also had heard that for the 4501's 100th anniversary TVRM wanted to have it run again. Can anyone confirm this?
The locomotive I would really love to see run is the Ps-4 1401.... but that will never happen due to other issues
