Large / Need Info
August 29, 2019, 07:30:51 PM
Bill,
Can you give me some data on a 2-4-2 Columbia P/N 91114? It was donated to our club, looks almost new but has bad gears. The axle gear was split and I 3-D printed a new one. It ran once around my railroad and stopped with the motor running. Upon examination it was the worm gear that is the problem now. Really a bad design.

Large / Bachmann 4-6-0 Conversion
April 25, 2016, 09:52:27 AM
Here is a short video of a battery/radio conversion I did on one of my 4-6-0s. It is my sixth conversion. I used a Crest Revolution receiver and NiMH batteries with everything in the tender.

Large / Bachmann Locos with Skates
May 07, 2015, 10:27:33 AM
How many Bachmann locos came with slider electrical  (skates) pickups? I had never heard of any until this morning. A member on another forum says he has a Bachmann Porter with skates.  ???

Large / On/Off Switch
August 19, 2014, 10:13:18 AM
I received my new to me Bachmann 36 ton 2 truck Shay and I need to install an on/off switch in it. This is a complicated loco, and before I go taking it apart to see what goes where, does anyone here have any suggestions? I use analog track power. TIA

BTW, it runs great. Smooth, strong, and easily goes through my R1 switches. I am very pleased with it.

Large / Shay Couplers
August 08, 2014, 02:08:54 PM
I plan on getting a two truck Shay in the near future, but the couplers have me concerned. All my rolling stock is Bachmann 1:22.5 and the Shay is 1:20. Will there be a vertical height problem (I'm almost sure there will be)? Because I will be purchasing used, it will not come with any accessories such as drop couplers, as my two 1:20 Davenports did. What do you suggest? I will need to keep the couplers truck mounted because all my 13 turnouts are R1 and all my rolling stock (Big Hauler) have truck mounted couplers. Please help if you can. ~Joe~

Large / Bachmann sound cards
March 17, 2014, 09:57:23 AM
Does anyone have a couple of Bachmann 4-6-0 sound cards (the later model with  the volume control) in their junk box that they could pry loose of? I need to convert two of my 4-6-0s so my fleet all sounds the same. TIA

Large / Davenport Headlight Mod
March 07, 2014, 10:31:17 PM
I have two B'mann Davenports on the HDRR. I like them both, but the huge headlight on them always annoyed me. It just looks too big! I did a pretty thorough image search online and could not find the prototype for this headlight. I did, however, find many pictures of Davenports with smaller or "built in" headlights. This looked more natural to me so I modified both #1 and #2 to this configuration. While I was at it, I used a much brighter warm white LED. I like it!

Large / Front Coupler on 4-6-0
May 23, 2013, 02:19:43 PM
Here's a question for you engine bashers out there.

How can I modify the USELESS dummy coupler on the front of my fleet (4) of 4-6-0s? As they are now, the coupler is too high and too short to mate with the couplers on the rest of my B'man Big Hauler rolling stock. It makes a double header impossible!

Is this loco still a current B'mann production item? How do they stack up?

Large / Bachmann LS figures
April 13, 2013, 01:53:54 PM
I just received 10 B'mann LS figures that I purchased NIB. Among them is the seated engineer (http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products.php?act=viewProd&productId=1008). Now that I have them all out of the packages and see them next to each other, they all look to be the right scale EXCEPT that engineer. He is noticeably smaller than the others. What scale is he in and why does B'mann sell him as LS along with the others?  ???

Large / Bachmann Manual Turnouts
October 19, 2012, 03:26:06 PM
Can my exiting manual Bachmann turnouts be used outside mated to brass track? I know my hollow steel rail B'mann track will rust, but my turnouts use what appears to be stainless rail (non-magnetic). What say the experts?  ???
