Looking for a list of the different markings of tank cars Bachmann produced. Am trying to make up a single train of all the different tank cars.

Large / Big Hauler 'Gramps' tank cars
December 15, 2016, 02:01:56 PM
Better late than never, but I noticed last night as I was preparing a car to be re-numbered that the reporting marks are U.T.I.X. 11050 in stead of U.T.L.X 11050. I have had about 10 of these cars for years and never noticed that.

Large / K-27 Chassis Suspension Springs
September 03, 2014, 10:49:31 PM
Bachmann, et al,

Does anyone know the outside diameter of the main chassis springs? I am going to, one way or another, install heavier spring rate springs in the #4 driver to reduce the butt sag in my K27. There are several threads on forums that elude to the much improved operational characteristics of the locomotive after doing such a replacement.

For the Bachmann, I might push my luck and ask for the design data for the spring ie. outside diameter, wire diameter, material, free length and spring rate. With this information I would freely be able to order an assortment of springs and find the one that suits my needs best.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Large / K27 Main board
August 30, 2014, 06:24:55 PM
I am converting my K27 to run both battery and R/C, using Air Wire 900 G2. There are three locations on the main board marked 'R' and three marked 'L'. Two are on the sides of the board and picked up the leads from the tender trucks. One each of the R and L pads are on the end of the board connecting to the connector on the floor of the tender for the loco connector. It appears that the side pads are connected together, but not so with the pads on the end of the board. My intent is to place the receiver between the battery/track power and the main board (yes there will be a bridge rectifier on the track power side to maintain polarity). My question is - Do I need to provide power to the R and L pads on the end of the board separately from the side pads or are the connected together else where in the workings of the main board? Thanks in advance.

Large / Spectrum Couplers?
December 04, 2012, 10:34:04 PM
Has Bachmann done away with the Spectrum large scale couplers?  The brown die cast ones that worked so well?  I don't see them listed anywhere in the parts or estore.

Large / I let the magic smoke out !
December 17, 2011, 11:30:57 PM
I was running my K27 today, got a few laps down to prove she would stay on track with a couple of 10' curves.  Left her running while I went into the stroage room to unbox a couple of pieces of rolling stock.  Returned to the layour when another member was hollering my engine was smoking and stopped running.  Smells real bad of burnt circuit board.  The loco was not derailed that the savoirs could remember.  I know there are a couple of small boards located in the engine.  One is the flicker board for the firebox, another controls the smoke unit, and the last one is on the back side of the Pitman motor.  I also observed that after the incident, the track still had power and had not blown the fuse on the Train Engineer or the Meanwell power supply,  Any ideas which one might be the cuoprit?

With the holidays here I don't think I will be sending it home to Bachmann for repairs immediately.  Nor do I plan to get into the loco myself until after the holidays.

Thanks for any help.

Large / A new treasure hunt for Loco Bill
August 10, 2011, 08:35:08 PM
Bill,

I just picked up a Big Hauler set (LOTS of TRACK), but am hoping for some assistance with the detailed ID.

Loco is Pennsylvania No. 9670, Black with a 'Brass' top on the stack. Came with combination car "Caussius" and observation car "Veritas".  The loco has the flat bottom cover, so I am guessing it is either a Gen I or Gen II.

Came with three full circles of track, a 90 degree crossing and three full boxes of straight track.  The power pack is all black with a red handle for speed control.  All for $35.00.

Thanks for any help you can be.

Large / Help identifying a Big Hauler
January 31, 2010, 09:39:45 PM
Mr. Bachmann

I am trying to identify (if possible) which chassis this locomotive has.

http://cgi.ebay.com/4-6-0-Steam-Locomtive-Denver-Rio-Grande_W0QQitemZ110488679719QQcmdZViewItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item19b9a37527

The seller has it listed as a #31499, but I have not been able to locate that part number on the Bahcmann site.

Help please.

Large / Shay, Heisler, Climax
November 25, 2009, 08:26:16 PM
Mr Bach Man,

I have the 36T two truck shay (81196), the Heisler (81797), and the 25T Climax (81180).  Can any/all of these loco's be double headed?  Running standard track power with Aristo Craft Train Engineer (not Revolution).

Thanks,

Large / Adhesive to repair detail on 1:20 car
November 03, 2009, 05:45:59 PM
I just received a PRR-Union Line box car purchased on eBay, in it's original packaging.  Two of the bottom door runners have been knocked off during shipping. What is the Bachmann recommended adhesive to repair this damage?

Thanks,

Mr Bach-man,

Is there a good reason why Bachmann will not market their replacement metal wheel freight trucks through dealers?

Large / Sick 36T Shay
September 21, 2009, 11:16:30 PM
Well, I posted last week asking about lubrication for the Shay and Climax loco's. Our club did a show in Dothan, AL this weekend and all went great until I went to run the Shay. My Shay is a 2 truck 3 cylinder 36 ton Shay P/N 81196. When put under power all the cylinders, valve gear, bevel gears and wheels turn, but the shay will not move. It almost appears to be supported on something even though it is not. Any attempt to manually rotate the drivers feels like all the gearing in the power truck is connected ie.. lots of resistance. Anyone have any ideas (besides sending it back to Bachmann)?

Thanks,

Bob C.

Large / Shay vs. Climax motor block
September 13, 2009, 06:48:55 PM
I recently purchased the 2 truck 36 t 3 cylinder 36 ton Shay P/N 81196 and the 25 ton Climax P/N 81180. These were advertised as NIB, however when I opened the Climax there was no video or DVD.  The instruction book shows the lubrication points, but is small enough, some are hard to see. Do both these locos use the same motor block? From the pictures in the small book, it appears they do.

Thanks in advance.

Large / White Lithium Grease is Lieu of Bachmann product
September 11, 2009, 09:52:03 PM
I recently purchased an older 36 Ton 2 Truck 3 Cylinder Shay and just finished watching the VHS tape that came with the loco.  All of the products that are used in the video are Bachmann of course.  I have been using white lithium on my other mfgrs products without issue.  Can I use this product instead of Bachmann's?

Large / Bachmann part numbers
August 20, 2009, 11:12:25 PM
Hey B'mann

Can you please clarify the part numbers of Bachmann rolling stock.  I purchase some of my rolling stock on eBay, and have seen cars listed as 1:20.3 with Big Hauler boxes.  Looking on several reseller sites, it appears that car with the 88XXX part numbers are the Spectrum line and the  9XXXX are the Big Hauler line.  Is this an accurate evaluation?

Thanks

Large / Video/DVD for 25 ton Climax
May 05, 2009, 11:25:00 PM
Mr. B'mann,

I purchased a 25 ton Spectrum Climax at the SEGRS but it does not have the VHS/DVD included.  Was there one? And if so, how can I go about procuring one?  There are way too many small locations that will require lubrication to try to guess.

Thanks in advance.

I have an order with a mail order company since the end of August. Their advertisement stated that the items would ship the end of September.  I called them last week and they informed me that Bachmann had not shipped to them, and they had no anticipated shipping information from Bachmann.

What's the story????

Large / Re-numbering B'mann rolling stock
September 23, 2008, 11:43:01 PM
Is there any suggested method for removing the lettering on Bachmann rolling stock for re-numbering?  I recently purchased a group of Big Hauler stock and would like to change some numbers, without damage to the original surface (if that is possible).

Thanks for you help.
