General Discussion / Consist Separated By Load
February 01, 2016, 01:29:58 AM
Real Life - I can understand how consist work with cable on locos that are directly attached to one another but how are engines synchronized to perform with lead engine separated by cars - some even in rear of long loads?

HO / Layout Locomotive Sounds
December 20, 2015, 11:37:42 PM
I have a DCC system and about 13 diesels equipped without sound. I would like to know if there is anything like under-the-layout sound equipment that could imitate the sounds of the locomotive and be sync'd with the control of each of the locomotives similar to action/sound of having a sound decoder/spkr in the engine itself.

HO / Bachmann F7's Truck Cleaning
November 25, 2013, 09:48:46 PM
I have several Bachmann F7A's & B's that are rather old. All the trucks have old lubricant in them (some have turned green). Can the trucks be broken down to remove the individual gears or is there some product I can use without damaging the plastic? I've tried dis washing liquid and that was not very successful.

Thanks

What are some smooth running motors for the Bachmann HO F7's that are not too difficult to install? I am using DCC.

HO / Replacement bulbs for TYCO #107 Floodlight Tower
October 03, 2013, 01:24:10 AM
Looked but cannot find replacement bulbs for TYCO's Floodlight Tower, either #106 or #107. If anyone have replaced these lamps, what bulbs were used and where can I obtain some? I could not even find any info on the TYCO forum.

Thanks,

Are there any good track cleaning cars and which are they. Are the motorized track cleaning cars good? Please share whatever knowledge you may have.

HO / Bachmann HO 89' Auto Transporter Car
April 30, 2013, 10:54:06 PM
I am trying to get back in the hobby and use some old cars that I have. I have some 89' Tri-Level Auto Transport Cars and understand that Bachmann no longer support these. I want to use them with knuckle couplers with other cars. What trucks/couplers would work best for these extra long cars? Anyone have or had experience with these particular cars? Any suggestion/help would be appreciated. I am retired now and don't have lot of $ now.

Thanks,

General Discussion / A Thought
March 27, 2013, 01:37:32 PM
While looking at my HO setup the other day, I thought why the loco manufacturers have not considered using small D.C. motors on each axle just as traction motors in real life? I know there are small and very small motors now that are powerful enough now. I was thinking of the diesel electrics I have such as the U33C's, C30-7's and SD's could be fitted with motors like these.

Just A Thought

HO / Making Roads
February 28, 2013, 09:24:25 PM
Anyone know of a product I can obtain from store like Lowes to use instead of Scenics's Smooth-It" to make roads on my layout? I don't live near a hobby shop and the one that is closet will not have it in stock.

Thanks

General Discussion / WHY ?
February 18, 2013, 09:31:15 PM
I realize this may sound totally ignorant or stupid but I am curious as to why modern diesels locomotives use a diesel to generate electricity to power DC/AC motors on trucks  instead of using a diesel, transmission and coupling (differentials) to power trucks directly? I believe that the way it is now is perhaps more efficient but I was just wondering . . . . . . . .

HO / F7 A/B

Who else makes F7 A/B locomotives, Union Pacific, other than Bachmann? I have searched but find only a couple that does.

Thanks . . . .

HO / Changing Couplers
February 02, 2013, 05:24:11 PM
I have 2 Bachmann F7A's & F7B's locomotives however the couplers are too long. When in a 4 loco consist, it doesn't look right with the distance between locos. Is there a coupler or modification I can use to shorten the distance between the units?

Thanks

HO / HO F7A & F7B
January 30, 2013, 04:05:12 AM
Looking for 2 ea. of F7A & F7B Union Pacific locomotives. I want all units powered. I use to have Bachmann units I used (about a month) 14 years ago but then put the hobby on hold until a month ago.  I tried the Bachmann's but they have problems - the trucks seems clogged or something. I want to replace the Bachmanns. I will use the decoders I have in them.

Any suggestions on some decent units?

Thanks

HO / EMD F7A Problem
January 22, 2013, 02:54:16 AM
A few years ago when entering this hobby and while at a train show, I purchased 3 F7A's and F7B's locomotives. I ran 2 of each about a couple of months and had to move and postponed the hobby. I have now retired, moved, and restarting the hobby again. While trying out an F7A, it started to move but then stopped moving and only making noise when signaled to go forward or reverse (like in neutral). I discovered that the coupler on the worm gear shaft is slipping. It is the plastic receptacle that is attached to the worm gear shaft. I hope I am making this clear. There is another problem and that is the "Instruction Paper" included with the loco. The parts diagram and picture does not match the actual parts. It lists motor screw holders and motor fasteners that do not match what is actually there. The motor support I actually have is a 1 piece unit with screw holders built on. I also need another one of these since 1 of the screw holder portion broke off. I am not sure how to order or obtain part information for repairs.

Please help . . . . .
