N / Decoder for Spectrum 2-8-0 Western Maryland
July 19, 2013, 12:36:40 PM
I would like to know which Bachmann factory installed decoder is installed in the newer 2-8-0's and is is possible to obtain a more capable decoder from Bachmann.  I need much more control over speed than is provided in the current decoder that comes with the loco.  Thanks.                 ....Tom

N / Trying to MU two Spectrum 2-8-0's
May 15, 2013, 03:48:50 PM
I recently purchased two 2-8-0's with the factory DCC decoder installed.  I would like to MU them but one runs very fast and the other, you guessed it, very slow.  I've messed around with CV2 and then CV's 3 and 4.  Nothing works.  At this point, I don't know whether the difference in speeds is due to the locos or the decoder.  Both locos run very smoothly on their own.  Am I missing something or is there no way to match the speeds up without installing a more capable decoder?  Thanks.   ...Tom

N / Problem MUing two Bachmann 2-8-0's
October 06, 2012, 03:59:17 PM
I have two of the newer Connies that come with DCC installed.  I'd like to MU them but one has a top speed of 70 mph and the other tops out at approx 48.  I've messed around with CV 2 and, regardless of the setting, the top speeds seem to change very little.  I'm assuming this is a 2 function decoder and has no speed table.  Other that installing new decoders, is there anything else I can do.  Thanks.                                ....Tom

N / Which decoder is in the N Scale Doodlebug?
February 04, 2012, 06:14:54 PM
I'm assuming the decoder for the Doodlebug is the basic Bachmann that has a Vmin with no medium or max speeds and no speed table.  Right?  Thanks.      ...Tom

N / GE 70 tonner

How can I tell which Bachmann decoder is used in this loco?  Decoder Pro gives several options but I need to know the specifics so that I can determine whether the loco's speed can be altered with, for example, a speed table.  thanks.                       ...Tom

N / Decoder type in new Bachmann GE 44 tonner
December 22, 2010, 06:12:28 PM
Decoder Pro identifies the decoder in the new 44 tonner as a  generic EZ Command decoder with two possibilities: a 2 function decoder or a 4 function decoder.  Does anyone know which decoder is in the loco?  I'm afraid I know the answer.  I need the availability of a speed table and it looks like that only comes with the 4 function version (hope I'm wrong).  So, Murphy being the predictable gentleman that he always is, I'm sure the decoder is a two function.  Any help would be appreciated.       ....Tom

N / Bachmann EMD DD40AX
January 14, 2010, 12:43:47 AM
This loco seems to be very reluctant to move.  I've tried several different settings for CV2 and it still takes up to speed step 6 or 7 for any significant movement to take place (28 speed steps) regardless of the setting in CV2.  The highest I've tried is 48.

Would a different decoder make a difference or is there a CV setting that I'm missing.  Any advice would be appreciated.                   ...Tom

Where can I get a reference document for the dual function decoder that comes with this locomotive?  Thanks.                                                     ....Tom

N / GE 44 tonner

Is there a decoder available for this great little locomotive that provides a little more function than the one shipped with the loco?  I'd like to improve speed control via a Speed Table.  Thanks in advance.                                 ...Tom

N / N Scale Spectrum Doodlebug
October 14, 2008, 06:10:02 PM
I just became the proud owner of a Doodlebug but, much to my chagrin, one side of the rear truck is missing the plastic piece that covers the wheels.  Guess what, without that piece the wheels tend to fall out.  Does anyone know where I might get a cover or an entire truck for this thing.  I haven't called Bachmann yet.  Thanks.                                   ...Tom
