On30 / Late Porter vs Early Porter
May 01, 2009, 09:18:55 PM
Hi,

How do I distinguish a late production Porter from an early production Porter?

(Not prototype, but Bachmann)

Is there a part number difference, or a physical difference that is visible?  Or box color?  Or????

(besides the added pickup brushes)

Thanx,     bob ???

On30 / Backwoods Miniatures--close-couplers
March 26, 2009, 11:39:56 AM
Hi,
Backwoods Miniatures sells a close-coupler for the On30 ORE cars.  The picture on their web site shows the cars so closely coupled that they would not negotiate any tight radius.  Now, they probably do negotiate tight radius's, but does anyone have actual experience with these couplers????

Hi,
When I was a small boy (some 55 years ago), my parents took me the Pomona Fair (now the L A County Fair).  I remember a very large outdoors and permanent train layout.

Is it still there?  Scale?  Anybody have pics?  Was it large only because I was small?

Thanks,   BW

HO / Walther's HO turntable
February 27, 2008, 06:22:01 PM
Hi,
Will someone give me the width and height of the Walther's HO turntable (either 130' or 90') ARCH?  I want to know how much if any I need to modify for On30.  I know that the guard rails will have to be moved out.

Large / 3 rail
December 18, 2007, 11:13:24 AM
Hi,
My brother-in-law was given a older 'K-Line' set (O-27).  It is missing track.  The engine has a center electrical pickup.  So, it is 3 rail.  Are all three rail track the same--Lionel, O-27, American Flyer, Mikes,?  Or do we need to look for a certain type or brand of track??  He wants to buy used.

General Discussion / Clever Models buildings
November 24, 2007, 07:09:49 PM
Hi,
Has anyone tried the Clever Models buildings??  Are they background only?  How do they compare to Paper Creek?  Or, is construction type different?

Hi,

Has anyone taken a Walthers (933-2829) HO turntable (130') and modified it for On30?

It has an 18" deck, and is 2 3/8" from fence to fence.  So, maybe it just needs a larger control shack and raised arch?  Walthers has it on sale for $240 (builtup), so your dealer should be about $50 less than before.

On30 / Quanity of freight cars
July 12, 2007, 04:53:51 PM
Hi,
Prototypically, and on NON mountainous territory what quanity of cars  would the following engines pull?  Normal average range (if possible)

(The type that Bachmann models On30)

Porter          Example:  2 to 3
2-6-0                         6 to 10    etc
2-8-0
Forney

(others)
Mudhen 2-8-2
K-28
K-36

I did not want my modelling to be out of a normal range.

General Discussion / Pink vs White Styrofoam
April 20, 2007, 11:36:34 AM
My local supplier of styrofoam has not heard of and does not carry pink styrofoam.  We both would like to know why pink is preferred as a base for a layout.  What are the physical properties differences?

General Discussion / plasticville kit wanted
February 02, 2007, 11:18:17 AM
Mr. Bach man,
I am looking to buy a certain out-of-production Plasticville kit.  May I advertise for it in the Plasticville forum?  I do realize this could open a can of worms.  So, if you would prefer that no searching for Bachmann or other brands of items use these forums then please say so.

Thanx,   bob
