General Discussion / "BACK-man" UK?
May 03, 2023, 05:32:01 PM
I noticed watching some British modelers on YouTube recently that when discussing Bachmann's UK products they pronounce Bachmann "BACK-mun" rather than "BOCK-mun".

Seems a bit odd, any idea why?  :o

HO / HO Alco 2-6-0, removing boiler shell?
November 28, 2020, 04:41:49 PM
Hi, I need to take the body shell off this engine. I found the two screws under the cab OK, but there is apparently one or more other screws holding the body on that I can't find. I've been looking at the 'exploded view' diagram for a while, but if it's there I can't see it. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thanks.

HO / HO 3-light signal, AA39115
July 13, 2020, 06:32:33 PM
Hi, I recently ordered this from Walthers. Both their website and the 2020 Bachmann catalog says this is a three-pack of signals...but what I received only has one signal?  ???

April 15, 2012, 05:39:05 PM
Hi, I've been looking around the past couple of weeks (since reading the Model Railway News review of these) but haven't found them. Have they actually shipped yet, or are they still expected in the future??

HO / Spectrum Heavyweights history / design??
May 12, 2009, 02:05:58 PM
Hi, somehow an argument came up recently with someone saying the Spectrum heavyweight HO cars were built for Bachmann by Rivarossi, or somehow were copies the AHM/Rivarossi design. I don't see much resemblence myself.... ::)

I thought when the heavyweights were introduced about 20 years ago that the ads and reviews said that they were new cars based on Pennsylvania RR cars (to go along with the then-new Spectrum K4 Pennsy Pacific)?? Plus I think they're made in China for Bachmann, not in Italy by Rivarossi??  ???

HO / Heavy 4-8-2 + separate tender = no go??
April 04, 2008, 05:24:06 PM
OK, I'm stumped.  I just bought an undec USRA 4-8-2 heavy. The undec version only comes with the rectangular tender, so I bought a separate undec long vanderbilt tender to use with it. The 4-8-2 heavy is available in decorated versions with the long vanderbilt tender, and the connections between the tender and engine are the same on both types of tenders, so there should be no problem.

So when I go to try it out, I hooked up the engine to the vanderbilt tender. Nothing, no movement, nothing. I then tried it with the rectangular tender. Nothing, but after about five minutes, I got it to start running. So I figure OK now it will work, so I put the vanderbilt back on. Again, nothing. So now I put the rectangular one on again, and now it's running again.  ???

Am I missing something?? I can't see any reason the engine won't work with the vanderbilt tender...of course after removing it a couple of times, I've probably loosened a wire or two in the plug, since it's so hard to get out!!  :(
