HO / Installing a sound decoder in Non Dcc ready K4
February 29, 2012, 09:10:09 PM
Does anybody know if the motor is is isolated  in the Bachmann PRR K4 NON DCC ready engines

I want to put one in and have the engine unplugged the tender open when it dawned on me that the motor might not be isolated

I don't want to open up the engine so I sure hope it is

PS the color coding in the tender leaves much to be desired

HO / GS4
January 17, 2012, 12:19:42 PM
Internet sites do not list the GS4 as a Spectrum

Did Bachmann fix the problem with the wheel sets that was prevalent on the original models

How accurate to prototype is the current model

The cost shouldn't be much different as the engines are very close in size and type

The only one available is the overpriced Rivarossi

General Discussion / Bachmann DCC/DC decoder swap
January 03, 2011, 08:20:07 AM

I have several Bachmann DCC/DC steamers  that I am converting to Soundtrax Tsunami decoders

As such I have the decoders that came with the Bachmann left over

I have a BLI sound equipped but non DCC steamer

BLI instructions say it can be converted to DCC by adding any NMRA compliant DCC decoder

I swapped in the Bachmann but it does not work in DC yet when in the Bachmann it ran in DC

Any ideas of why

HO / Converting DCC to sound
December 18, 2010, 10:18:44 PM
Converting DCC to sound
I have 3 Bachman steamers with DCC and Sound ( 2-8-0  4-8-2  2-6-6-2 )and am satisfied with how they perform IN DC mode

I have 2 DCC only ( 2-8-4 and 4-8-4 )

Are there any instructions  on converting to sound --what decorders  are needed and what speakers --installation instructions etc

I want to  operate only in DC mode like my others

HO / Bachmann Light Mountain
March 16, 2010, 08:40:36 AM
Run my own RR but have a display case for the prototypes

Loved the Southern greens
Based on how good the Bachmann's Spectrum Consolidation performed I bought a Light Mountain in Southern's green

It has been in my display case for over 10 years
I bought their heavy Mountain undecorated and run it on my RR in my mark--performs great

I recently tried running the Light Mountain ( Never ran it before)
It is very noisy especially at slow speeds--sounds almost like a grinding noise

I think I remember reading that they had some problems with the Light Mountains

Anybody have any info
