Williams by Bachmann / WBB GP9 Problem
August 28, 2010, 08:34:32 PM
Alright folks, the GP seems to be acting up.

Before we start YES it IS well lubricated.

After running for about a half hour, the engine begins to slow down and if just left (no throttle adjustment), it will eventually stop. The engine does get pretty hot for my personal standards. I personally think the heat built up in the shell is to blame but does anyone else have any suggestions (other than send it back for service which I'm not going to do).

I do like the engine a lot and would run it more often if it wasn't for this issue.

I know the catalog lists the Trainmasters as 0-31 curve engines however will they take 0-27 curves?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Shipping Schedule?
June 03, 2010, 08:04:23 PM
Bachmann,

I'm interested in a couple things in the new catalog such as the HO Auto-reverse track set as well as the Davenport G-gauge sets. Any idea on when they (especially the G sets) may be coming in?

Thanks for the help!

Williams by Bachmann / Bachmann @ WGH
January 25, 2010, 06:49:53 PM
Attended the WGH show in Chantilly, Va on Saturday with my modular group, the National Capital Trackers. Other than one issue, I had a great time and the Bachmann booth was top notch with the usual gang from Bachmann consisting of Larry Harrington, Jack Lynch and others all talking to visitors and just having a good time.

I really enjoyed their two HO and ON30 operating layouts. Both were very well done and really showed the potential for the smaller scales. They are especially attractive to those with limited space. They sure gave me some ideas (which may be a good thing as well as a bad thing ;))...

I was quite surprised to see a new Williams layout. This one was small (looked like 4x8 or so) but had plenty of fun packed it. It was a modified "figure 8" with a bridge, two tunnels, two sidings, and plenty of mountains and other scenic features. I got a lot of pictures which will certainly come in handy for me in the future.

I didn't ask at the show but am curious as to when a new Williams catalog will be showing up? Is my guess of the Toy Fair in February correct?

Williams by Bachmann / TB2 Diesel Sound Board...Music????
November 07, 2009, 06:03:35 PM
Was letting a younger fella run my GP9 this afternoon while at a show with my modular club. He was hitting the horn and happened to hit it right in front of me as I was walking around the layout in an area where we were having some electrical problems. Anyway, instead of getting a horn, I got "beeps" (that is the best I can describe it) similar to those you may hear coming out of a toy carousel such as the ones Dept. 56 and Lemax produce. Also, it wouldn't stop until we killed the power. After that, everything was fine. Anyone hear this one before? I've had electrical beeping coming out of the engine and my ill fated S2 turbine when I may have the horn/whistle or bell going and I had to quickly kill the power but nothing like this one before.

Anyone on this?

Off topic. Bachmann - When it comes to steam, please find some other way to secure smoke units other than hot glue. WIth one lap around the glue starts melting and I have to find other means of attaching the unit. Not only did I have that problem with the S2, other friends in my club have had that problem before. Sorry for drifting a little...

I hate to start another topic but my S2 was running great earlier until I stopped to add more smoke fluid.

Williams by Bachmann / Motor Question - WBB S2 Turbine
August 15, 2009, 12:57:56 PM
Got my replacement turbine last Sunday and have been running it pretty much everyday for an hour or more. When I put my ear somewhat near the engine while running, I hear a noise similar to the whining/grinding type noise model motors make when you get them up to a high speed. Naturally, I cracked it open and shot some grease in it and oiled around. I'm still getting the noise and I'm starting to think the engine needs a good break in period. Does anyone agree or is this just the nature of the beast? Bach-man? I opened the shell of the WBB GP9 and I don't get the noise even with two motors and that engine is well broken in.

Could I be pulling to much (5 MTH Railking Rugged Rails baby Madison cars)?\\

Thanks!

As some of you know, my 671 needs a replacement sound board. I have some questions that I hope to have answered before I send it out.

1) Return RA? I spoke to a tech but he said I didn't need one. Is this true?
2) I assume I should write a letter stating my problem, expectations, return address, etc. correct?
3) Turn around time? What is Bachmann's turn around time for repairs?

Thanks and if I happen to think of others I'll post them. Thanks again!

Williams by Bachmann / TrueBlast 2 - Problem?
June 21, 2009, 09:15:07 PM
Picked up a 671 turbine a few weeks ago from Justrains. The whistle originally was loud and full. Last week, I ran it and when I blew the whistle, it was pretty much inaudible. Once I killed the power and then reapplied power, it worked fine. Today, I ran it and it sounded quite lower in volume once again and as barely audible over the track noise and other trains.

As anyone heard of this problem? I hope I don't have a bad sound board. The bell seems to work fine. I'm using the recommended transformer (MTH Z1000).

Thanks!

Williams by Bachmann / Smoke Unit center pin
June 19, 2009, 03:26:38 PM
I broke the tip of the center metal "pin" off on my WBB 671 turbine. Is this something to worry about or should I just leave it?

Thanks.

Williams by Bachmann / Smoke Unit - 671 Turbine
June 16, 2009, 06:14:52 PM
Hi all,

Ordered a new WBB 671 GM turbine a couple weeks ago. It came last Monday or Tuesday and I finally cracked it open this morning. I have some questions about the smoke unit that I'm hoping to get answered.

1) The smoke unit (I believe it is a Seuthe (SP?) unit and fluid correct?) seems to be a little "stubborn." It tends to puff out occasional clouds with a slight "stream" of smoke in between. This is while running and in neutral. Also, when I first unpacked it, I added around 15 drops to the unit before I put it on the track. While doing some test runs, the smoke stopped maybe after 2 minutes. I added about 5 drops just in case it ran out of fluid and the same process was repeated. Is it possible that I have a defective unit? I have one MTH steamer (PS2) which, most of you probably know, smokes like a cigarette factory on fire. I also have a little Lionel 4-4-2 from the RTR set which has the piston smoke unit. The Williams is a different unit design that I'm not familiar with so please excuse me if I'm fussing over nothing. It just seemed like the smoke unit ran out rather quickly and its behavior was rather odd.

2) As I stated above, the smoke "puffs" on occasion with the popping of the fluid inside the unit. The fluid gets all over the shell of the engine. I've had some bad experience with smoke fluid (JT's Mega Steam) peeling the paint off my Lionel and MTH steamers. As anyone experienced this with the Williams (Seuthe? (SP?)) unit and fluid before?

3) Is there any way to shut off the smoke unit to prevent burning it up and also to prevent fluid from being sprayed all over the engine when filling it up? Both of my MTH and Lionel engines have this feature. If not, it may be something to consider for future smoke equipped steam models.

4) Finally, when I ordered the engine, I ordered an extra bottle of smoke fluid thinking the fluid supplied wouldn't get me far (that has been my experience with MTH and Lionel). I was surprised to see the Bachmann boys taking care of us and giving us some enough fluid for more than one fill up unlike the other guys. When I run out of both bottles (which will be a while), can I just use regular Seuthe (SP?) fluid?

Thank you for the help.

Williams by Bachmann / Sparking
June 07, 2009, 10:24:35 AM
Please excuse the stupidity in this question. Yesterday I was attending a show with the modular club I belong to and was operating my WBB GP9. For a little fun I put all 22 volts the Z4000 had to give on the track so the train could really move on the 30' - 40' straights. At full throttle, I noticed some serious sparking coming from, what looked like, the pick-up rollers. A friend let me test his new WBB SD-45 to see if it was just my engine. His engine showed the same symptoms. I came to the conclusion it was the track and we wiped it down but no improvement. We did oil the pick-up rollers on both engines that morning but made sure we didn't get oil on the flat part of the roller itself. At home I have no way setting up a test track like we had yesterday although at the leisurely speeds I run at home, there is no sparking problems.

Any ideas? I have a brand new WBB 671 Turbine on the way from Justrains and I hope I don't have the same issue. Thanks for the help and sorry for the stupid question.

Williams by Bachmann / WBB layout at York.
May 26, 2009, 09:16:09 PM
New here and I attended my first "York Meet" last month and really enjoyed the WBB booth. I also really enjoyed the layout they had on display there and I'm wondering if any of the Bachmann folks can give me some specs on it. I'd LOVE to see some pictures of it (I'm well aware of the no photo rule at York) and if anyone can point me to where I may be able to find some they will get a gold star in my book.

I'd also like to thank the WBB guys at the booth for not getting POed at me for taking engines off the shelf and handling them for closer inspection as well. I went to York in search of a Williams GP9 and with it being my first Williams product, I wanted to see what I was getting and have it in my hands before cracking open the wallet. After coming back to the booth a few times (and driving my friend who was with me nuts) and looking at it (as well as picking it up a few times), I finally broke down and purchased one from Marty at Ma & Pa. I'm very happy with it and I plan on picking up another engine from him within the next two weeks.

Thank you for your help and thank you WBB for providing us with some great products.
