HO / Engine Repair Shop
July 31, 2011, 03:28:06 PM
Have not posted in awhile as I have been working on a repair shop for my locomotives.

I am sure others have built some really awesome engine shops, engine houses, and round houses.

I am trying to figure out how to add a Walthers overhead traveling crane.

Any one else want to share photos and help us all get ideas?

Thanks

HO / DCC conversion of an old MDC Box Cab loco
January 09, 2011, 05:37:37 PM
Finally got around to getting a kit for an old MDC Box Cab running.

The kit had two major problems. The drive shafts in the trucks were too long and the plastic universal would just slip on the shaft.

After many years of this kit sitting on my shelf, I finally decided this is the time to get it running so I cut the shafts shorter. I drilled a hole into the end of the shaft and through the universal and inserted a pin. Put super glue on it to hold it all togethor. I did have to file the pin smooth but it worked!

Bottom line never give up on that project after awhile you might figure out a way to get it working.

Here are some pictures for those interested.

Now that summer is coming to end, I thought it might be interesting to post a question to the community. May help people plan their vacation next summer???

What are some of the interesting exhibits and rides people have seen.

I have been fortunate to see several here are my favorites in the past 5 decades and why:

Cass Scenic railroad: Real Shays in action

Museum at Strasburg RR: Incredible locomotive collection in excellent shape

North Carolina RR Museum: Working Turntable

Santa Fe Southern: Ride in a Vista Dome car on real working RR

Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR: The scenery and seeing a Mudhens in action

Georgetown Loop RR: The Devil's Gate Bridge

Colorado RR Museum at Golden: On special days of the year you can ride in the cupola of a caboose or in a Galloping Geese

Some of these events occurred several years ago so they may be out of date.

What are some of your favorite items?

I am considering converting an HO locomotive to DCC with sound, does anyone have experience with using the EZ command DCC system with a sound loco?  ???

First loco will be diesel maybe second is a steam engine.

Also I am looking for a recommendation for a DCC decoder with sound that will work well with the EZ command system.

Thanks in advance for any help.

General Discussion / Adding DCC to 0 6 0 and 44 tonner
October 16, 2009, 12:04:11 AM
I have a DC Bachmann 0 6 0 switcher and DC 44 Tonner.

They are a few years old, do the Bachmann decoders fit nicely in these great running models.

Also how do you remove the body on the 0 6 0?

Thanks

I recently purchased a EZ Command DCC controller and one HO Bachmann DCC locomotive.  I followed the instructions that came with it and I tried to change the address but could not get it to change.  I tried it with another Bachmann DCC locomotive and had the same results.

Any suggestions?
