HO / Making Your Own Wheel Puller...
March 18, 2024, 09:14:02 PM
Just saw a You Tube Video where an individual used a "Superior Tool Faucet Handle Puller" to pull an engine driver wheel off. Available at Lowes for $16.00 and probable cheaper on Ebay or Amazon. Looked liked a very simple operation abd one that I understood.

Has anyone made their own affordable wheel puller? As I have mentioned before I have several 63" and 52" 4-6-0's that need new driver gears...I need to at least attempt to repair myself or they will remain in their respective boxes until my estate sale....

Next question "Is the driver gear removal a problem?" What could I expect? Someone said that rod alignment also needs to be considered.

Any advice to help me appreciated.

Thanks,

HO / Spur Gear Identification 4-6-0 HO # 82307
February 17, 2024, 06:00:39 PM
Hey All...

I really need several of these...found this on NWSL Site. Can anyone confirm this is the correct gear for this model? It would be so appreciated. If not...anyone have specs? Then my next question would be do I need any special tools or are there instructions on how to replace the gear...I'm at the point of no other choice other than making this repair attempt.

Spur Gear, 0.4mod x 20 Teeth x 8.6mm OD x 0.110" Face x 3.0mm Bore, Delrin
Compatible with:  Bachmann HO 4-6-0 ten wheeler axle gear

Thanks,

I have several engines with a worn drive gear...the one located on middle driver. First off...Are they available separately....part number... vendor... etc...And if so how much talent is needed to even replace the gear...looks to me it's quite a job. Couldn't find any instructions/videos on web. I saw the gear is part of an assembly available from Bachmann Parts...I don't mind a challenge but I believe this is beyond my talent and probably be best to purchase the assembly and forget the aggravation.
Thought I'd ask? Also have one that needs a motor...I think I can handled that one?

HO / Spectrum 2-8-0 Front Light Issue
January 27, 2024, 02:11:01 PM
I reviewed posted threads and explored the internet but remain uncertain how to proceed.

I revived a 2-8-0 from my junk pile with a parts purchase from Bachmann. I will say Bachmann did a great job with my order. I had removed the circuit board a long time ago so I retraced the hard wiring and installed a TCS T1A Decoder. All programming went well except I can't get the front light to light.

The Model Spectrum is 11410. Bought new guessing 2005 or 2006 era. I'm not sure if existing light is a bulb or a LED. The parts list looks like a bulb. I did wire the light to an aux power source and slowly increased current until the light lit green and then backed off. So the light appears to be ok...

As to wiring...and to be on the safe side I installed a 1K ohm resister between one of the light wire leads to the blue wire lead of the decoder and the other light wire lead to the white wire of the decoder. I then switched around the light lead wires...same results..still no light.

Questions:

1) If it's a bulb do I need a resistor? Could having the resistor installed be my problem?
2) Is there a CV Function that permits the light from lighting. I use a Lenz LH100 Keypad. In all my years messing around with DCC and decoders...I never had to be concerned with any associated function.
3) In checking the resistor, I had conductivity across the leads.

Any help of course is appreciated.

HO / Spectrum 2-8-0 Wheels and Slide Rod Movement
January 19, 2021, 06:24:17 PM
I may have a wheel and slide rod binding issue. Motor runs and and I "assume" at this point, the gears are engaged. To further troubleshoot...when installed in just the chassis, how free turning should the wheels and slide rods be. I get about a 1/4 turn before I get into a bind. Any advice or reference to free up the bind. I wanted to attach a photograph but Upload Folder appears full. The photograph I was referring to was Chassis Part Assy H11408.

Any help is appreciated.....

General Discussion / Understanding Basics
December 23, 2015, 08:01:57 PM
I just got back into this great hobby and trying to get some old Bachmann Spectrums running. I have a Spectrum 4-6-0 HO, probably 2003 release. I remove stock circuit board and down to just wiring from engine. Found motor leads. What should I expect when applying power to just the two motor leads? I get a hum. but should driver wheels turns. I guess the question is, what should I expect at this point?

Thanks, Merry Christmas.....

HO / Spectrum 4-4-0 Factory Installed Decoder (EMF?)
January 13, 2008, 11:42:37 AM
Hello All,

With the understanding that the factory installed decoder is the EZ Command, Two Function Decoder, I just wanted to be sure the decoder DOES NOT have a CV setting for Back EMF. I use Lenz 1025's as the CV is  50 and either bit 0 or 1 and frequency control by CV9.

Am I right?
Thanks, Russ

HO / Factory Installed Decoders, Spectrum 4-4-0's
December 28, 2007, 11:54:51 AM
First all, I was impressed with the unit right out of the box. (I liked the woodpile) It took a push to get it started but then ran to my liking and didn't hang up on any turnouts.....

Question, what Model Decoder is installed and if not avaialble on the website, where can I get the specification and CV Listings?

Thanks and have a great New Years!

HO / Removal of Circuit Board
December 06, 2007, 08:12:07 AM
This one I did do a search on.....

Can the circuit boards in the Spectrum 4-6-0 and 2-8-0 be removed and hard wiired for DCC Operation? Perhaps this should not be within the process of troubleshooting a problem (which is want I'm thinking) but I just wanted clarification.

Thanks all,
Russ
