Maybe I missed another thread, if so here's another place to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever holiday gets you to go out and buy Bachmann trains.

This morning on price is right they had Drew Carrey come out on a locomotive, and gave away a couple trainsets as prizes. Good for them for bringing some publicity to model trains. Of course they had the trains zipping around at full throttle, about scale 130mph.

Here's some "fair use" low quality shots from the show, for review purposes, plus a shot of one of my Christmas scenes with Plasticville and a Roaring Ridge set. Excuse the mess in the background.

Hi,

I will post this here first, if no answer then I will put it under general discussion.

I bought some supposedly Bachmann G scale track from a seller on Ebay with over 100000 transactions. You would think this person would be reputable.

The photo looked like a lot of regular G scale track. When I received the package, I was bummed out to see that most of the track has brown ties.

Some of the track has brass colored rails with fancy connectors, like they have little model rivets on them.

So the question, did Bachmann ever make G scale track with brown ties or brass colored rails?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Standard disclaimer, I searched a year back for a previous answer to this issue and didn't find one. If I missed it please feel free to point me at the proper thread...

My DCC layout has five turnouts. #1 is a number 6 crossover, #2-5 are standard number 4 turnouts. I have the basic EZ-command controller. For what it's worth, I have four locomotives, a rail truck, and three lighted passenger cars. Amazingly I can run all these at once, but that's a different story.

QUESTION: When I plug in my controller, at startup, some of the DCC turnouts will switch. This is random, I hear it happen and have to inspect the track to see what was changed. It happens to different turnouts at different times, and has occurred with from one to three random turnouts. It happens every time I plug in the controller.

I can live with this, but has anyone else seen this? Is there a firmware upgrade? Where's the Ethernet port on my controller? (Just kidding on those last two)

Thanks,

Jim

General Discussion / HELP, voltage for Bachmann turnouts?
December 03, 2009, 05:18:08 PM
OK, I know this is probably a dumb question, I just can't find a good answer anywhere online, plus my EZ-Track manual doesn't seem to address this, so here I go...

After playing with model trains for years now, for the first time I want to wire up the remote switch on a DC turnout.

I assume it runs off the AC accessory connection on my cheapie Bachmann throttle, is that right? 16V AC?

Thanks for anyone who can help.

I did a search for the answer but didn't see a clear answer, forgive me if this has already been addressed.

Are all Bachmann DCC-equipped locomotives able to run on 12V layouts? Is this called a "dual-mode" decoder?

If yes, does anyone know if there are specific exceptions?

I specifically need to run a On30 rail truck on a 12V layout.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, a very picky question...

In the Holiday Season the Christmas trolley sets must be popular. I was looking at buying one, but I can't reliably figure out which color building and trolley will come with what set.

If you look right here on the Bachmann site, the same photo is shown for:

25016 Village Street Car Set -- United Traction
http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products.php?act=viewProd&productId=357

and
25017 Village Street Car Set -- Christmas
http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/products.php?act=viewProd&productId=356

Yet in the picture, the printing on the box shows a real Christmas trolley decked out in green and red with decorations, while the actual unit in the box is the tan United Traction trolley.

In addition, there seems to be a red building available with this set on EBay and other places, while the Bachmann site is the only one I've seen to show a beige/tan colored building.

Is there any consistency to these sets? What is the real difference between a 25016 and 25017?

Thanks to anyone who can help clear this up. I'd sure like to get a tan building with the proper green and red Xmas trolley.

Hi folks,

I tried searching previous posts, if this has already been addressed I didn't find it. If it was, I apologize in advance.

I have a EZ-Command DCC controller and am happy that in the past it will run four locomotives and three lighted cars at once. This seems to go beyond the ratings.

My question, I ordered a On30 12V Roaring Ridge set. I wonder if that locomotive will run on the #9 setting designed to run a 12V DC locomotive on a DCC layout.

Does anyone have experience with that specific locomotive or in general running a 12V DC locomotive on #9? I tried it once with a very old Athearn locomotive and it didn't work out well.

Thanks,

Jim Lohse
