N / New Bachmann Turntable
May 27, 2015, 11:22:08 PM
Anybody tried out the new Bachmann turntable? From the pictures it looks like a sd70 might not fit but gp40s and such would work fine. Im impressed with the detail you get for the money.

N / DCC OR SOUND AND DCC?
May 22, 2015, 06:49:53 PM
Is it better to get Bachmann steam engines with sound now or go ahead and buy the dcc steam engines now and later add sound when the sound is available for those engines. I have the bachmann berkshire with sound in n scale and a proto steam with sound but I also have other engines without sound and if you run the 2 engines, one without sound and one with sound together, the engine without really stands out as not being very impressive. I am limited to what I can do regarding installation of sound, I can do drop in decoders but when you talk about grinding frames down and things like that Im inept to say the least. Since im on a fixed income,I cant just send them off and say install sound in these engines. I love engines without sound but ??? I love engines with sound even more. Back in 1968 I was just happy to have n scale period. Now with dcc and sound Ive gotten spoiled.     :-\

HO / old bachmann 2-8-0
May 16, 2015, 01:49:52 PM
I have a 11 year old Bachmann 2-8-0 that came with dcc and sound.I bought this engine from trainworld and I dont have paperwork on it. I remember the instructions said dont run on straight dc. The engine is larger in size than my Broadway and other engines. Is this engine in scale? It still runs great and has a metal chassis. The bell and whistle are the only available sounds ???

General Discussion / steam or diesel
May 07, 2015, 10:12:45 AM
JUST CURIOUS,HOW MANY MODELERS MODEL STEAM OR DIESEL OR BOTH? I MODEL THE 1950S MOSTLY BUT I ALSO RUN SD70S AND GEVOS. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT IS VISITORS TO THE LAYOUT WILL POINT OUT MY SCENERY,CARS,TRUCKS ETC.DONT MATCH THE ERA. TO SAVE SPACE ON MY LAYOUT THERE IS A SECTION OF HO TRACK THAT THAT RUNS PARALLEL TO MY N SCALE TRACK BOY THAT RAISES EYEBROWS FROM THE PURIST NOW I HAVE BACHMANN ON30 STEAMERS THAT I RUN WHEN NO ONE IS AROUND THO HO TRACK GOES TO AN AREA THAT ONLY HAS TREES AND MOUNTAINS AND GOES TO A PRIVATE DOGBONE AREA BUT BECAUSE OF SPACE LIMITATIONS IT TO PASSES THE N SCALE TRACK.OH WELL ,I GUESS IT COMES DOWN TO WHO WE ARE TRYING TO PLEASE OTHERS OR OURSELVES. I HOPE I DONT START THINKING ABOUT G SCALE!!!!!!!! may god bless.sw :-\

General Discussion / best track cleaner?
May 06, 2015, 10:15:33 AM
ok i know this is gona open up a can of worms but here goes anyway,i have tried many track cleaners with ho hum effects . from the abrasive type to the alcohol on the pad type .i have tried rail zip and it seemed to work for a while but then i tried rubbing alcohol and it seemed to work for a while. i know that the abrasive kind will eventually pit the rails so i try to stay away from those unless i have a lot of crud on the tracks. the masonite pad might work,i havent tried it yet. im beginning to think radio control is the way to go but i have too much invested in dcc equipment.

my wife says if i buy one more engine she will leave me.................gee after 48 years ill miss her!!!!!!!! :-\

N / hiding n switch motors
May 05, 2015, 12:23:47 PM
anybody got any new ideas on how to hide switch machines? i have tried everything i can think of to hide these unsightly blobs on my layout. painting them light grey helps or painting them to match the groundcover helps but after so many years they seem to really stand out. when i was younger i tried under table switch machines but now if i get under my layout i have to call my wife to help get me out....almost. i havent tried green ground foam glued to the machine maybe that would work. :-\

On30 / 284 on30 engine problem
May 05, 2015, 12:34:04 AM
MR.BACHMANN,SEVERAL WIRES CONNECTING THE ENGINE TO THE COAL CAR HAVE BROKEN .IS THERE A QUICK FIX FOR THIS? ALSO CAN BACHMANN PUT THICKER WIRES ON FUTURE ENGINES TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM?I HAVE RUN THIS ENGINE VERY LITTLE WITH CARE. THE WIRES BROKE OFF IN THE CONNECTORS,OTHERWISE I COULD HAVE SOLDERED THEM. THE ENGINE IS ON ITS WAY TO YOU FOR REPAIR. THANKS,SONNY W.
