General Discussion / Attention r0bert
March 12, 2010, 06:28:17 PM
r0bert,

I had bookmarked a thread in which you posted some impressive water scenes. The thread now appears to be gone and the bookmark is invalid. I would greatly appreciate it if you'd share those pictures with me. I'd like to show them to my son.

Incidentally, I attempted (with two different browsers, mind you) to send you  a private message without success. I got the error message "The letters you typed don't match the letters that were shown in the picture." THERE WAS NO PICTURE.

Large / Figure 8 components
September 15, 2009, 11:03:31 AM
We've got a 14'x6' large scale layout under our HO layout. I'm giving my sons each a large scale train of the own. I'd like to add a 13'x5' oval inside of the 14'x6', and another inside of the 13'x5'. Since the inner most oval will be smallest, I thought I'd try to make it more interesting. Can anyone tell me off hand what components are necessary to achieve a figure 8 using the Bachmann 90ยบ crossing? I'd also like to know the overall dimension of the basic figure 8 track plan. Of course it will be 4' wide. I'm wondering by what amount I will be able to elongate it. Thanks for any tips guys.

Large / 4-6-0 Annie, older version. Worth keeping?
August 12, 2009, 05:40:02 PM
I acquired a track powered large scale Bachmann 4-6-0, item #31497,  as part of a recent trade. The locomotive is sealed in a factory carton. I can see that the side rods and valve gear are all plastic, unlike those of the 4-6-0's already in my roster. How did/do these versions compare to the latest editions? The details are nice, but I know nothing of this particular mechanism; would you keep it? Please opine if you own one of these puppies, or if you have owned one in the past. Thank you.

General Discussion / The Board Is Slow Again
June 14, 2007, 03:54:51 PM
I've been busy adding two rooms to my house but the few times I've been here in the past weeks, the server sure has been slow. Today is no exception. There was some discussion about this the last time I noticed slow loading speeds but I don't see any threads on the issue at the moment. Anybody else observing this?

HO / Painting Realistic Water
March 09, 2007, 04:14:51 PM
I've just poured 1/8 inch of Realistic Water into the small pond on my nephew's new layout. It looks pretty good right out of the bottle but I'd prefer that the bottom of the pond was...murkier. I don't want to see it, at least not as clearly. Does anyone have experience painting this stuff between coats, or otherwise treating it for the reasons outlined above? I'll be pouring a second layer tomorrow. I wonder what a piece of Saran wrap would look like between layers. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

HO / Walthers Cornerstone 3-Stall Roundhouse # 933-3041
February 27, 2007, 03:42:38 PM
I'm building a 6-stall version of this kit and I have a number of concerns. If anyone has built this kit I would appreciate some pointers.

On both of my kits there are several components that do not fit as-is. The roof panels are too long and the clerestory windows don't fit, either. The roof panels cannot be positioned to fit without notching them. And the window units would have to be notched AND trimmed in order to fit. And what's with the gaps at each end of the roof panel joints? What am I missing here?

I tried to send a private message today and I got an error message saying my text didn't match the picture. There WAS NO picture. The Turing test never appeared. This is different from last week when I tried this; there were a dozen different instances of the Turing test. I didn't bother.

Just wondering if I'm the only one. If this topic has been covered (ad museum) please excuse me.
