I have a Bachmann Spectrum HO J 4-8-4 DCC Train that I am converting to Sound DCC.  I also have a Bachmann Spectrum HO J 4-8-4 DCC Train with Sound, but since I have the non sound one, I am converting it to sound.  My question is:  When I try to take the tender apart, the bottom seems connected to the top of the tender.  It would seem that the coal load covers the screws to disconnect the top from the bottom.  I have tried to gently pull the coal load off, like I have been able to in other Bachmann Spectrum HO trains I've converted, but it doesn't want to move.  Any one have any ideas or know how to remove the coal load on a Bachmann Spectrum HO J 4-8-4 DCC Train?

General Discussion / DCC to DCC Sound Upgrade
September 23, 2010, 10:23:55 PM
I'm fairly new to the DCC market.  I've been in DC HO for 45 yrs, off and on.  Is it possible to buy the Tsunami upgrade from Bachmann or am I better off getting it from a Dealer, although I have found dealers are hard to find?  I'm looking for a chip and speaker (whole package upgrade.)

I recently bought a Bachmann Spectrum HO J 4-8-4 DCC train Norfork & Western #82122.  It runs fine but unlike my other DCC Bachmann Trains, this one has a cab wobble.  When it runs, esp slowly, the cab moves slightly left and right and slightly up and down (it's a circular motion).  I've looked at it and can not figure out why it is doing it.  It did it out of the box.  None of my other bachmann trains have a wobble.  Anyone have an idea of why it would do this and is it normal for the 4-8-4?  If it's not normal, any ideas of what to check.  It's not real pronounced, but is noticeable.  Thanks -

HO / Bachmann's Harry Potter Hogwart's Express
August 18, 2010, 11:10:48 PM
I got a Hogwart's express train set from Canada.  I want to convert it from DC to DCC.  I have a MRC 1823 HO DCC DC Dual Sound Decoder I am planning on installing.  I would expect this install like any Decoder for Motion and sound.  This is my first DCC conversion from a none DCC  Locomotive.  Just wondering if there is anything different with this Loco since it is Canadian and although it is brand new, it was made in 2001? (the couplers are different than those I am use to and wondered if there was anything else different?)
