On30 / Forney ?
March 06, 2017, 09:21:02 AM
Not trying to beat a dead horse. The Forney was wonderful aside from the operating troubles on corners.
Just daydreaming, what if a person replaced the rear drivers with blind drivers and eliminated the side to side movement of the rear truck? This would bother some people looking directly at wheels on track around corners. From most peoples perspective though it would ok and in fact may look better too most since there would not be the rear overhang on curves. These locos are too fun to put on the shelf. Of course if someone could figure out a Mason Bogie that would be fun also.

On30 / On30 Porter Sound question #2
December 03, 2012, 08:44:14 PM
When sound first started to be added I thought that you could have your loco programed on a DCC system then operate it on DC with limited function. What do you get when running a sound equiped loco on regular DC?

On30 / Bachmann HO 0-6-0 to On30 conversion
November 25, 2012, 06:12:36 PM
I want to take a step back and convert an HO locomotive to On30. I have done some search but can't find as much on the topic as there was just a few years ago. I want this to be a fun project. Has anyone seen any good step by step tutorials on the web? Has anyone done one they could share pictures of. I figure to change cab, stack, headlight. Then eventually a larger bell, domes etc.

Has anyone here ever dealt with Black Bear Construction? I am considering a Trestle Kit that includes their Trestle Jig to assist assembly.

General Discussion / NWSL "Chopper"
December 11, 2008, 09:54:46 AM
Building a wood trestle for my Bachmann trains.
I am considering the "Chopper" by NWSL. Has anyone used this type of tool for cutting 1/8" hardwood dowels. If the blade and handle will cut this hard material it will save me the time of sawing dowels.

Other than the fine tooth craft/ modeling saw does anyony have a better idea? I have to cut 199 1/8" dowels for my 420' trestle.

Thank you.

On30 / Flat car with load
December 07, 2008, 09:08:29 PM
Mr. Bach man,
The HO scale flat car with log skidder looks good. Maybe On30 could have one? Flat car with Skidder and Skidder alone would be nice. I don't ask for much.

On30 / On30 and E-Z TRACK
November 15, 2008, 08:28:26 AM
Will On30 equipment clear the E-Z TRACK remote turnouts (switch machine) ? The pictures on this site do not show this. Most train set switches have the remote controled switch very close to the rails. This portion of track will be along the back of layout. Those near the front I will do manually.

Thanks

General Discussion / Power routing turnouts
November 04, 2008, 11:51:41 PM
This has me confused. I have searched the archives and manufactures (Bachmann, Atlas, etc.) and the NMRA and still am uncertain.
Who makes power routing turnouts for DC operation?
If a double oval has power routing turnouts this will determine which oval has power correct?
Can someone explain this in simple terms?

Thank you.

General Discussion / Meters ?
October 30, 2008, 09:19:01 AM
I have a MRC Control Master 20 and would like amp and volt meters to hook up. Where should I look for these? How can these be best used to diagnose troubles ?

Thank you,
Allen

General Discussion / DC Momentum
April 12, 2008, 09:14:24 AM
I use DC. I know that useing  momentum causes motors to run warm. I believe it was here that someone said that the new DCC ready Bachmann engines do not like DC momentum. Is this true? Will it hurt anything? Also knowing that DCC creates heat what is the difference in heat or heat?
I have an On30 Shay and two porters and a trolley. The Shay would be of most concern.
Just the facts please. I do not want to debate DC vs. DCC, just the issue of heat and or actual damage.
Thank you.

Thomas & Friends / Open Wagon
February 19, 2008, 07:39:10 PM
Can someone tell me the measurements for the Open Wagon? The lenght and width of the box. Also the distance from axle to axle center and the diameter of the spoked wheels. Also if there were no box and the car were sitting on a flat surface how high . Thank you.

On30 / Chivers Finelines Caboose
February 10, 2008, 09:56:49 PM
I have painted and lettered the caboose for the Allegan & Lake shore R.R. These are nice "little" all plastic kits. My question is: as the tail end car do I need to add any weight ?

General Discussion / Steam era oil lamp lens
January 01, 2008, 09:19:00 PM
How do you make lens for oil style lamps? Dia 11/32. What do you use for an adhesive that will not show? Have seen just a few with nice clear lens. I have a Selly (white metal?) lamp for my On30 T- Boiler Shay. This along with removing the generator will make it look more like #94 as delivered. For any of you that need to back date an engine this detail from Bowser (just lucky) fits over the Bachmann light if you remove the visor.

On30 / Bad luck with On30 Shay
April 21, 2007, 09:44:13 AM
Just recieved a replacment  Shay from service. Have ran it a little (20 min) runs smooth and quite compared to the first. But today, ran backwards for photo ops (DC). Stopped, attempted to run forward and light comes on but will not move either direction now. How can such a wonderful loco give me such bad luck? Using headlight as testor there is power pickup at both trucks, so my only guess would be wire at motor.  Guess I need to box and mail it.

General Discussion / Thank You Bachmann Service
April 18, 2007, 03:19:35 PM
Regarding warranty/responce. 3/19/07 8:00 A.M. I emailed customer service about an issue with my On30 Shay. 3/20/07 9:58 A.M. Bridget responded with instructions to return item. 3/23/07 I mailed item to Bachmann and crossed fingers. 4/18/07 1:00 P.M. a U.S. Postal employee handed me my brand new On30 Shay. Now that is service. Thank you Bachmann.

On30 / Bachmann Warranty
March 15, 2007, 12:39:36 AM
" Bach man" I recieved a On30 Shay for Christmas 2005. Have not even run an hour when it became a little jerky then for a split secound it appeared to jamb and a slight wift of smoke appeared. It still runs but jerky at slow / medium speeds. Apon closer inspection the crankshaft has much play in it. The rear bushing" part MT010" is loose " not staying in place".
I did not send in warranty card, I have never in 35 yrs ever had to return an item. If I send the Shay and a $25 ck will service be able to help?
