HO / 2-8-0 tender
August 28, 2023, 09:31:47 PM
Dear Mr Bachmann. is it possible to use the tender from the new 0-6-0 #53804 on a 2-8-0 Tender Chassis. I ask this as there are a few 2-8-0 that have this style Tender Body. most notably the DM&IR C3 and K class Locomotives of which #332 is operational at the Duluth Railroad Museum.

actually those of you who did get the Toad brake van will have discovered he does have the NEM pockets. so it looks like bachmann is making a effort to start moving over. if so we will see more NEMs on newer releases.

Thomas & Friends / Thomas coupler conversion
July 05, 2016, 10:40:01 PM
I found a small youtuber that has made videos on how to convert rolling stock from the Bachmann thomas range. I am sure if you give him suggestions for more rolling stock to convert he will do so. subscribe to his channel if you are interested in the conversion stuff he does.

From the looks of the coupler pocket did Bachmann switch over to NEM pockets? normally you mount the over sized loop coupler right to the frame by a screw. instead i see the nice narrow loop coupler mounted in a small box on the under frame.

I have converted all my British and Bachmann Thomas to kadee. I have seen a vast improvement to them. 1 they look better without such a big really crummy looking loop and hook coupler on either end. 2. cars and locomotives look better together and at prototype distance. 3 they are SOOOO much easier to decoupler now. 4 they operate better. the loop and hook usually snagged or tangled around sharper curves or tight switching. The kadee coupler does not have that problem. the only disadvantage as all of you point out is the resale value can be slightly damaged.

I already converted my entire collection of thomas and friends rollingstock to Kadee couplers with the exception of Donald the scotish twin. the front coupler beam is metal. this website will show you how to convert the regular train cars that bachmann has available.

Thomas & Friends / motor problems
July 31, 2015, 01:55:18 PM
Dear bachmann
i have had some bad motor problems with my copy of Emily. I have cleaned the motor and it does pick up power. there is no motion though and the locomotive does not move at all. is there something i missed or do i need to replace the engine?

the Arlesdale is based off the RH&DH 15 inch gauge trains. there is no model form of that gauge anywhere. i would assume that Z gauge track will work.

Thomas & Friends / Re: DCC Professionally

i am working on DCC for all my thomas stuff. even doing extra like converting to kadee couplers on my British collection. I have a Emily right now but i need to service the motor first. next is Duck and followed by a special project on one of the scotish twins. i will paint douglas into the original blue as seen on the real prototype and the original series. install a sound chip and program special sound effects. such as Sean Connery Draco lines "how do you like the ride so far" and Ready or not here i come". I have done DCC before for some people for free along with conversion to Kadee's

the writers did a rather good job with Duke the lost engine. but after seeing the CGI you never see him again. he is a very key character to the narrow gauge locomotives. having saved Sir Handel (falcon on the old railway) and taught all the others.

the best i can say is use a conversion car to. I model British OO scale along with my Alaska Railroad and DM&IR. i have experinced in converting any bogie coaches without NEM coupler pockets becomes extremely delicate. especially if you want them to look prototypical and not so far apart. i do use one site that can possible help you.

hopefully that will help you.

I have put Kadee couplers on all my thomas and friends equipment. except for thomas. to get the coupler box at NMRA standard you have to cut away so much of his rear and front pilots and add in extra material as they are not thick enough. if you have the courage to do so go ahead. other then that problem the other stuff like freight cars. just unscrew the loop and hook. cut the small riser to the bottom of the car body. use a longer screw to place the Kadee coupler box in and your set.
