On30 / Re: full load amps for 2-8-0 consolidation

Jim,

I re-checked my DC values and they appear correct, what I didn't do was to check the AC values. The AC values are: @40 mA AC at idle, @150 mA AC at slow speed and @320 mA AC at wheel slip ( I didn't check locked rotor). I am running an un-modified from stock Tsunami sound decoder. The meter was connected in series with the loco.

I'm still getting used to this DCC world, but I'm guessing that the odd DC values are attributed to the digital control. At the moment I am using a low end Bachmann controller, I need to get a better one so I can start playing with the CV's.

Hal,
I am running mine in DCC mode and using a Tsnuami decoder. Just before wheel spin the 2-8-0 is drawing @ 20mA DC, at running speeds it is drawing @15mA DC. At standstill it is drawing @ 30mA DC. I used a Fluke 87 for these measurements.

Does anyone know if this loco is going to be built with a metal cab & boiler like the rest of the on30 Spectrum steamers? The Bachmann catalog doesn't say, so I'm assuming it is going to be plastic.

On30 / New 4-4-0 #28324 vs #28321 (? for Mr B)
September 10, 2008, 10:54:05 AM
Mr. Bach-man,

Finally, the new 4-4-0 is available but I'm confused about the cabs. #28321 is described as having a wood cab but the picture shows a steel cab and the #28324 is described as having a steel cab but the picture shows a wood cab. I have found that the same is true on other web sites that have these for sale. Am I looking at things wrong? Or are the pictures wrong? I want to purchase the loco with the smooth sides, which one should I order?

Thanks, Paul  ???

On30 / decoder for interior lighting?
January 31, 2008, 12:14:39 PM
Mr. Bachmnann ( or any other DCC guru ),
I have been up-grading some of my DCC equiped locos to soundtraxx decoders, and I want to use the leftover bachmann decoders that were removed for lighting my passenger cars. First question is can I do this? Second question is if I can, which pins need to be wired where, which voltage lights should I use or can I use LEDs? should I use the F10 function for control or can I assign a separate function? Thanks for any help. Paul

Thank you Bob, I am still at the bottom of the learning curve for DCC.

On30 / DCC issue
April 15, 2007, 11:25:20 AM
Hello, I'm new to DCC. I recently purchased a new Bachmann 0-4-0 side rod loco that has DCC on board. I have not yet bought a DCC controller. The problem is is that the loco runs just fine under DC control. I removed the shell and checked to make sure that the electronics are in place. Is it normal that DC is controlling it or has something failed in the electronics? I thought I would have to replace the decoder with the supplied pins to operate in DC mode. Thanks, Paul
