N / Re: dimensions of n scale replacement motors
April 27, 2012, 07:51:43 PM
Thanks Tony,

That's a really useful piece of information.

The only extras that I would like are the length, width and depth of each of the motor bodies and the length and diameter of the drive shaft. Imperial or metric figures will do - I'm bi-mensural  ;D !

N / dimensions of n scale replacement motors
April 27, 2012, 05:13:00 AM
Please can someone tell me the dimensions of the following Bachmann N scale replacement motors :

P/N 50504 0-6-0/2-6-2 Motor

P/N 811xx-N81102 2-8-0 Motor

I would like to know the size of both the motor body and the drive shaft

TIA

Will it be possible to use a Digitrax DS64 stationary decoder for switches in combination with the Bachmann Dynamis DCC system?

Hello

You are not very specific as to what the building itself is made from - plastic, card, wood etc.

When you have sorted that out then they take a look at :

   http://www.thistothat.com/

This may well give you an idea of what it may have originally stuck together with. This in turn will give you an idea of an appropriate solvent - for example acetone for ACC.

Don't forget that ESU make a 'Micro' Loksound decoder - 1.1" x 0.4" x 0.2" with an attached speaker 1" x 0.6". That goes easily into a Bachmann On30 Davenport, which is a much smaller loco than an HO SW7.

Glenn W said :"Running 2 locos from one transformer or power pack depends on the volts output."

I'm sorry, that just ain't so. Whatever size of power pack in anything larger than Z scale and smaller than G scale the output is between 0 and around 12 volts DC plus or minus. The ability to run more than one train on a DC analogue layout is dependent up using separate blocks OR a controller with a higher Amperage. Abasic unit giving say 0.75 Amps will be struggling with two trains, whilst a 1.5 or 2 Amp unit will breeze it. Both will give the same voltage.

Agreed David,

Many moons ago there was a lengthy article in one of the older UK model mags - MRN or some such. It gave chapter and verse for an N-scale layout in a garden!

On30 is an excellent size for a small layout in anything from a window box upwards, but it certainly needs weather resistant track.

I certainly agree about using Milliput. It's available in two grades - Standard (Grey/Yellow) and Superfine (White). Depends on the job which one is better.

The current suggestion is that the crash was caused by a faulty set of points (switch). Apparently the evidence is that some of the bolts were loose or missing, and the tie bar was loose.

It actually says a good deal for the Pendolino that it ran for half a mile 'on the deck' after the points, before it finally flipped. It also says something positive for the design - a similar accident at Potter's Bar on the East Coast Main Line a few years ago cost five lives.

On30 / Re: DCC Help4newbie

Certainly the On30 Porter locos have a distinct 'buzz' when they are run on DCC powered track. Can't help with the other ones or the various add-ons - I use a different DCC system.

Hello 'Seasaltchap'

Surprised that you haven't mentioned the wonderful GWR slip coach system. I reckon that with DCC there is a good chance of this being modelled. There's a challenge for you. :D

Hornby or Triang in the late 50s/early 60s produced a set which modelled the London Midland (Midland Region) mail cars with pick up/drop off facilities and the matching lineside gear.

On the other hand, I have never seen models of automatic single-line equipment.

Those suggestions would be fine for many, but when there's probably no more than two other people within 250 miles who've even heard of On30 and a well used Bachmann Porter can sell on the Oz eBay for well over $US70, then, sadly, they are not a real option.

Two Levels :

Lower Level - all DCC

Upper level - switchable DC/DCC

DCC - Uhlenbrock Intellibox

It is the Tasmanian Government railways original 1909 Beyer Peacock Garrett that is now in the NRM at York.

No, it is now alive and well and has just started steaming again on the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railway. Actually, what remains is an amalgamation of bits from the original K1 and K2 locos plus all the bits needed in the restoration.
