On what planet is this happening?  The only products listed on Precision Scale/MMI's site are a C16 with a September 2009 delivery date and a 4-4-0 with a "November" date. 

K series engines are a bit big and a bit specific.  Would like to see an EBT Mike though.  They definitely need to continue with rod engines, as the geared locos seem to have too many issues.

Unfortunately, MMI/Precision Scale does not list any On30 products on their website.  It's unlikely these items will return, as demand plummeted as the price steadily increased.  Dealers are selling old stock or things acquired in trades/purchases with collectors.

Bachmann could do better with these, as they would be able to make more compromises to allow for operation on smaller track radiuses.  Heck, they could scale the entire engine down about 80% to make it match their rolling stock better.  Just call it a mikado, leave off the "K27" designation, and give it a couple different pilot/stack/cab options for people who might want to "un-rio grande" it.

I'm thinking about kitbashing a side door caboose to remove the side door.  Any idea what kind of sheeting I could use to match up with the sides of this car?  Thought about using material from an On30 boxcar, but the earlier Bachmann cars all have thinner boards with less pronounced wood grain.  I wouldn't mind taking the grain off the car, but the width is still a problem. 

Before breaking out the scale ruler and tinkering around with Evergreen strips, I thought I'd check and see if anybody has already done this and hopefully found an easier solution.

MMI has announced larger shays to be produced in that hazy time known as "the future", so Bachmann isn't allowed to make any.

MMI has removed almost all of their future On3/On30 releases from their webpage. 

And why should Bachmann be worried about MMI?  If/when MMI releases them, they'll be at least $700. 

I don't think the Mogul has been forgotten.  Bachmann just released a replacement pilot with a front coupler, so they realize that people are using them.

They're probably keeping it simple because it's the loco they're selling in all those licensed train sets like the Thomas Kinkade set, etc. 

And I just took one apart this weekend to install a decoder.   I'm putting a TCS MC2 in and rewiring the whole thing, but a replacement circuit board decoder would do the trick as well. 

How about doing the stock car in the DRGW black scheme?

But none of those locos are available from their manufacturers on a regular basis.  MMI has released a K-27 a K-28, another K-27, a C-19, and most recently a K-36.  Their announced engines will take several years to work through, and the K-27 is not on that list.  Broadway is all limited run, and while there are some still in the channel, availability is spotty. 

Bachmann's K-27 would no doubt be cheaper than MMI's, as the level of detail will not be as high.  The MMI locos are basically brass locos made out of die-cast metal instead of brass.  Broadway's commitment to On30 is weak at best.

I do agree that a K-27 shouldn't be their first priority for larger steam, but it should be in the pipeline.
