HO / 40 Foot Boxcars
March 25, 2021, 07:57:11 PM
Hi All,

I was just curious if anyone might know the type of box car that was used as a basis for the current Bachmann 40 foot box car.  Was it a PS-1, AAR or another type?

Hi Jim,

Which Kadee coupler are you using?  I have had no problems using #158 whisker couplers.

HO / EMD FT Locomotives

Hi All,

Does anyone know if Bachmann is planning to do another run of their EMD FT diesel locomotives?  I could have sworn that I received a e-mail that they were but I don't see them listed on the Bachmann web store.  I am very interested in buying a NYC one.

Any information would be appreciated.

HO / Silver Series C&O 40 foot Box Car (13098)

Hi Bachmann,

I am very interested in the announced C&O 40 foot Box Car (13098).  Any idea when it might be available?  I really want to add one to my collection as I am a C&O fan.

Thanks!

Oh, ok.  I agree totally.  A train without a caboose is a sentence without a period. The "FRED" don't cut it.

I often run two cabooses, one for passengers on my mixed train and one for the crew.
That is a great idea!  I have a very small layout (6x4) so most passengers cars cannot make my curves and those that do just don't look right.

I have been in the hobby for 25 years.  I started out trying to be prototypical.  Over the last several years I began to just want to have "fun" rather than worry about being exact on my trains.  I really just enjoy running my trains and be honest few of my relatives or friends can recognize whether a model is prototypical or not.  After a difficult day in the office or after finishing a bunch of household tasks I find nothing is better than watching my trains running on my layout.  Here is a funny point, my layout started out as a German layout so I have U.S. trains rumbling through a German town!  Now that is totally unrealistic but makes me happy!

HO / Alco S4
February 17, 2019, 07:59:28 AM
I just wanted to thank Bachmann for offering the Alco S4.  I just purchased my third one yesterday.  I have a very small layout (6 x 4) and the S4 looks perfect on it!  The locomotive runs quiet and smooth.  Thanks again Bachmann!

The great thing about model trains is that you can customize it to your liking.  Just about anything you can imagine is out there.  The most important thing to remember is to have fun with it!

HO / HO Scale Porter 0-6-0 Side Tank Locomotive
October 21, 2018, 06:51:42 PM
Hi All,

I have recently seen a very good price for the Porter 0-6-0 Side Tank Locomotive.  I am a straight DC railroader and I understand that the locomotive is DCC.  I have Bachmann GP-7, GP-9 and RS-3 that are DCC which I have no problem running on my layout.  My question is will the Porter 0-6-0 run on straight DC?  If is does run on DC, what are the running characteristics?  I currently have a Mantua 0-6-0 which I am happy with (I am not super detailed orientated).  Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

General Discussion / Re: Is this train set worth anything

Why not hang on to it for the memories?  I have several very old pieces of rolling stock going back to 1960s, I ran them when I was a kid and hold on to them remembering the fun they gave me.

I've done the same thing, Trainman.  Then it even looks more like a regular coupler, too.
I have done the same thing too.  I love the way they look as well.
