Bill,

Here is the reply I got.
Hopefully this will be a good replacement.

Hi David,

We currently do not make that gear nor will we;-----------------------Instead, and we're actually getting closer to releasing it, is a regearing kit for that engine (and its cousins, such as the 0-4-0) where you pull all the factory gearing out, re-use the factory motor, then install our kit. It'll take us a while to finish it but we've made some good progress.

Thanks!

Bill,

I finally got around to submitting a gear request form with NWSL
this morning.  I will let you know if they have when I hear back.

Thanks Bill.
I will let you know if I have any luck.
The guy who owns this unit also has 2 new 2-8-0's that he got 4 years ago and never took out of the box.
He asked me to install revolution decoders,  but thy have cracked gears also. He had heard of the issue when he got the units so he had two gears from NWSL.  I installed one this morning.  it seems ok. Nylon I think.  I will contact them about the 2-4-2. I did not see it listed on their site.

Large / cracked gear on 2-4-2
April 25, 2017, 06:53:54 PM
I have item #91114,  2-4-2  w/coal Baldwin and tender w/smoke (Pennsylvania).
The loco is like new but the axle gear is cracked.  This item is now discontinued
and Bachmann parts cannot supply a new gear or axle with gear.
Is there anywhere that supplies replacement gears for this?

thanks,
David

Thanks Kevin,

I did sit down this morning and came up with the same as you did.
I removed the decoder and pluged the 6 wire cable back into the main board
As per the DC drawing. Seems to work ok.  I hope to finish-up the installation tomorrow.
I am going to put in a 18.5v cordless renovations battery and use the revolution sound.

Seems strange that the soundtrack dcc decoder will only handle below 21v.
It shuts down at 21v as per their manual.
I thought dcc decoders went to at least 24v.

and are there instructions available?

Thank you Kevin.
I will use Massoth xl decoders.

I have an older version 2 truck shay and a climax to convert to dcc with phoenix pb-11 sound.

Will a 3-4 amp decoder be strong enough?

What size would you suggest?

thanks,
David

I have a 3 truck shay with motor problem.
The 3rd tuck is slow in starting compared to the front and middle trucks.
I put in a new motor and now it starts before the other two.
Do You need to change all three motor together?

Thanks Kevin,  I agree decoder goes in tender.  This will run track power.

I have just finished a J1e Hudson with revolution and I put the decoder in the tender.
I also have a J1e Hudson to do dcc and will also put the decoder in the tender.

I have 4 wire aristo style cabling that works fine.

Kevin,

The C-19 and K-27 have a socket but not the consolidation.
At least not the on I have here.
It has never been run but I believe the guy may have had it awhile.
The book that come with it says hook up in the boiler behind the front plate.

Has anyone put a revolution decoder into a 2-8-0 consolidation part #81299
Box reads dcc ready.  Is the room in the boiler for the decoder?

Thanks,
David
