Thomas & Friends / Re: European style of ez track?
February 01, 2024, 02:22:18 PM
For anything prototypical that looks realistically like the United Kingdom, I would advise using PECO instead of EZ-Track. You don't see a lot of track options for EZ-Track because it's intentionally designed to be simple and easy to jump into for new modellers. Bachmann's EZ-Track was also made with American style layouts in mind, while the British style Thomas brand is secondary to the track offerings Bachmann provides.

It existed because it was a model which had a low manufacturing cost and a high Return on Investment.

Thomas & Friends / Re: Bachmann Duncan Thread

Like Rusty, it's basically a 99.9% chance he'll be the CGI body design that Mattel will provide to Bachmann, and for that it'll be a hard pass for me.

Duncan's design in CGI should've been revised like how his S5 model had to be redone, but unfortunately we're stuck with what we got, and whoever at Mattel approves the product designs probably doesn't understand what the problem with his design is anyway.

I'm not even sure if his chassis would be suitable for a Douglas body, depending on how big the drive wheels are and how spaced out they are on the CGI model compared to Douglas.

All I have to say about Duncan from there is "oh well."

I think it's safe to say that if a character has not appeared in the CGI episodes/specials, the odds of them being made are basically 0. Any hopes for Stepney and BoCo might as well be dead in the water, lest Mattel change their tune in the near future. Seems strange that they won't give Bachmann any leniency after years, and years, and years of demand from the fans, and guaranteed revenue from how the Hornby Stepney sold both in its living and post-market days.

That said, Rebecca before Hiro is a decision that got a raised brow out of me, especially after years of assumptions that there was a stipulation against large tender engines. I feel like the demand for Hiro has been consistently far greater than Rebecca, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was a decision more pressed by Mattel.

Still shocked we haven't seen Sidney or the Mainland Diesels made yet, those seem like easy ones to crank out.

Besides model-era characters, Hiro, and any diesel shunters, I feel like "what's next" could literally be any engine picked by throwing a dart at a board.

Same with rolling stock; in years past, I've created mock-ups for potential products such as these:

And still today, I uphold the belief that if it's not a new tooling, the odds of a piece of rolling stock being made are low. The Mai Coach and Flatbed these days feel like exceptions, rather than the norm, unfortunately. Which at that point, basically any livery or logo is possible on a piece of rolling stock. Skys the limit.

It would be nice to see them make a new tooling based on something unique to Thomas, such as the Lynton and Barnstaple rolling stock or the Works Unit, but my hopes are just too low these days.

Maybe Bachmann could make trains just based on the reboot. How are they too cartoony to make good models from?
Considering how poorly Bachmann Chuggington sold, I don't think it'd be a good idea for them to waste material and resources on such a thing.

Thomas & Friends / Re: Worst review ever!!!
June 02, 2021, 11:00:34 PM
You should've posted your full review to an 11 year old video that you left in the comments section (as if the icon didn't make it obvious enough), it's even funnier:
QuoteHonestly, this is the worst model train review I've ever seen in my life!! You clearly don't know a thing about trains or Thomas at all!! "I wanna show you a view of the Thomas...um...train..." Which one?! There are tons of Thomas merchandise ranges out there!! Be more specific about which Thomas train it is!!!! "And then there's another compartment, Annie, and this one's Clarabel. It comes with all 3 trains". Compartment?! All 3 trains?! Thomas is the engine, Annie and Clarabel are his coaches!!!! Trains are what the engine or locomotive pulls!!! Like what Tbonez1965 said, you really should learn a thing or 2 about trains before making a video about them. If you don't know anything about trains, don't make videos on them or else videos like this happen. Also, you should watch a Thomas episode or 2 before making a Thomas-related video (Someone really should've told Doug Walker A.K.A. The Nostalgia Critic that before he made his Thomas And The Magic Railroad review) and you clearly have never even done that. There are plenty of better reviews of Thomas products out there from people who know their stuff about Thomas and trains so watch those videos instead of this utterly cringe-worthy one.
But really, chill out.

Well isn't that certainly the pot calling the kettle black....

Rodimus, I don't know where you think you are. But that kind of language is not welcome on this forum, nor is your usual hostility.

I'm not sure what your issue is, but this is not the place to sort it out.
He knows what this place is, he's been on the forum for over 10 years under different accounts, and has gotten two threads deleted in the last month because of his continued behavior. I'm not getting why this is happening a third time already. One would think a forum veteran would know how to behave without the needs for moderators to get involved. Most of us are grown adults who know how to cooperate and behave on social media.

But really, let me address the matter more directly; BoCo is what I would consider an "unlikely" engine. However, any business runs through supply and demand. If there's a sudden, overwhelming demand for a product of some kind, the odds of that product being made increase. Take note of something like... SpongeBob "meme" toys. Nickelodeon, on their own, would probably never think twice to make toys based on those specific moments from SpongeBob. However, since they became popular with people they know consume SpongeBob media and products, opened the opportunity for them to make merchandise based off those memes. It's a broad example, but the principle applies in general to most things; customers enjoy and want something, brands make merchandise of it.

It's fairly normal to not hear updates on new products for months at a time, nothing new there.

The only thing I'm really expecting and or hoping to see at NRMA that'll be "new" is a painted sample of Daisy, that'll be enough for me to sleep at night

Thomas & Friends / Re: Thomas & Friends Ideas

I'm not sure why you keep calling the Bachmann models kids toys, when they're not toys by any means, and are meant for ages 8 and older. If you want something sturdy and durable, buy some Trackmaster toys.

The CG show is being tossed aside for some 2D cartoon, so Mattel might as well not care what era Bachmann makes Thomas models from anymore

Considering its been discontinued for awhile, I'm surprised they haven't already re-released it.

Hopefully we don't have to wait very long for high-resolution images of Large Scale Paxton and Diesel..
