On30 / On30 2-6-6-2 parts?
March 29, 2024, 12:32:47 PM
Are there parts available for the 2-6-6-2?  I don't see it listed on the parts site.

Hmm.  I can't see any of the pics now.

Theres another unit that will do this and add momentum control as well.  https://blocksignalling.co.uk/Shuttles/SAS2-BR

On30 / 0-4-2 porter cab speaker
February 16, 2024, 11:45:44 AM
From what I can gather, the speaker for the sound models is built into the cab?  Do the cabs for sale that show they are for DCC w/sound include this speaker?

Quote from: Terry Toenges on February 06, 2024, 10:52:30 AMI remembered why I didn't do track power. The lights are 3 volts and the track is 15 volts. What size resistor would I need?

It's hard to tell.  If you just want to use a resistor then I'd start with 10K and go down until you get it right.  I run DCC, and I pull power out of a lighted passenger car.  I used a 3V zener diode to create a voltage regulator.  If you wanted to do that and you're running DCC then you'll want a rectifier too.

If you want a zener I'll send you one, PM your address and I'll stick one in the mail.

If you're inclined, you could add wheel wipers to the trucks, or add a lighted car before/after your gondola and feed your power from there... and use a simple zener diode regular to provide 3vdc.  I added this to a LED string in a gondola full of Christmas trees.

The battery works, but if you want to tinker it's not hard to pull power from the track.

On30 / Climax gear replacement
February 04, 2024, 07:41:43 PM
I picked up a NOS climax with gear problems.  I'll buy new trucks, but it appears the gearbox is also slipping.  I haven't popped it open yet, but the instructions for gear replacement only addresses repairing the trucks, not the gear box.

Are there some instructions for replacing other gears, not just repairing the trucks?

Side question, is this repair still available from the service department?

On30 / Re: DC Climax 25760, adding DCC decoder

Quote from: John on January 16, 2024, 05:05:11 PMYes, there is already a space for a 28mm speaker under the Bachmann board. The 8 pin plug is standard. I would suggest getting a keep alive also. The conductivity of the climax trucks is not great. The wood load detail has a great cavity for either decoder or keep-alive placement.

Thanks for the info.  As for keep alives, the new decoder will have connection for that, but on a side topic, how would one add a keep alive to a regular bachmann decoder... It appears many of the non-sound decoders are all the same decoders in various locomotives?  What I've gleaned from various posts about this is to find the - and + connections after the bridge rectifier, but I've not found any solid info on where that would be found on the bachmann decoders.  Some posts say to connect to the capacitor on the output of the rectifier... I haven't looked yet, but wonder if anyone has identified or confirmed that location.

On30 / DC Climax 25760, adding DCC decoder
January 08, 2024, 07:54:38 AM
I see what looks like a DC climax for sale, and in the pics it has an 8 pin plug with the jumpers for DC use.  Can a decoder be wired using that plug?  The box doesn't say DCC ready so just want to be sure.  I don't want to have to tear it apart to wire it up.  I know I'll need to add a speaker and I can use a sugar cube easy enough.

On30 / On30 closed streetcar, roof removal?
December 22, 2023, 05:29:50 PM
I just got a streetcar and want to replace the lights with LEDs and add a rectifier and cap.  How does the top come off?  I know it probably snaps together, but thought I'd ask before I start mucking with it.

I seem to be late, but 99% sure it will use a 16VAC power supply.

On30 / streetcar/Trolley dcc decoder recommendation
December 17, 2023, 07:13:53 PM
I've got some rail busses I used for holiday displays with soundtraxx decoders.  Curious if there is a good match for a streetcar.  I was going to just use the same decoders and turn the volume down all the way on the diesel sounds, unless there is something else.

On30 / Forney 2-4-4-Bac25478, is it sound ready?
December 13, 2023, 03:57:50 PM
I just stumbled on a NOS DCC Forney Bac25478.  At a brick and mortor hobby shop and I ordered it over the phone, so the info I got is limited... and hopefully I actually receive it.

But anyway, is it sound ready with a drop in sound module?

Uncle Bill, you probably want to start a new thread.  Even though it's tender related, it's a different topic.

Well, if it only stops on the end track, then clean up the connections on that track and the one before it.
