HO / Bachmann DCC on Board non sound Locomotive CVs
September 02, 2017, 11:30:56 AM
I have a GP 38-2 DCC on board non sound locomotive. It came with a quick start guide that listed what CVs can be set on this locomotive. I can no longer find it. Is there somewhere I can find what CVs are available to set on this locomotive?
I know it is a very limited set of CVs since it is non sound.

I have the document that shows all the CVs for the locomotive.  So what are the misprints? I have identified one - F4 for steam release should be 32, not zero. Got that from the Tsunami manual.

HO / Bachmann 2-6-0 with Sound Value CV Settings

I accidently reset the  CVs to defaults. I left it on the track when resetting another locomotive. I've been able to reset the settings to what I had except I can't get a couple to work.
1. I can't get the exhaust to work. It was F4 (I never changed the default) and now I can't get it to work.

I got this to work. I looked up the Tsunami manual for steam locomotives and found that the value for F4 should be 32, not 0 as the Sound          Value document shows as the default.

2. I can't get the light dimmer/brightner to work. It was F7 (I never changed the default).

It started working when I shut down and restarted the system. Not sure if that was coincidence or not. Never changed the F7 value from the default. The Tsunami manual showed the same default.

3. The at rest chuff sound continues when I have the locomotive running. The running chuff sound works fine, but I also get the at rest chuff sound occurring also. It didn't do this previously and I can't figure out how to make the at rest chuff stop when the locomotive is running.

I just looked at a video of one of these and that sound does exist while the locomotive is running. I 've since learned that it is the air compressor sound and it is normal to "go off" while the locomotive is running. I just hadn't noticed it before.

I just answered my own question. I vaguely recalled the same drill with the GPs. I seemed to recall I had to go into program track mode to reset the address. That worked. Now I can complete the rest of the setup on the main.

I have an NCE power cab. I program on the main. I have programmed a Bachmann DCC with sound GP38-2 with no issue.
With the 2-6-0 steam loco I select loco 3. I go into program on the main. I set the address to short address 19. The loco responds with a jerk. I press enter an it then returns the power cab to run mode as per the manual, but the loco does not respond to address 19. It still responds only to address 3.  I did not have this issue with my GPs. After setting the address with the GPs, they immediately responded to the new address.

Thanks.
Is there somewhere that shows what the various values are for these CVs?

116 - Exhaust Control
198 - DCC Mode Auto Sound Config

I have a Bachmann Diesel GP38-2 DCC Sound Value SoundTraxx  equipped locomotive but I can't find the correct information for the CVs that are available and the values that the CVs can be set to. Can anyone tell me where to find that information?

HO / Re: Converting DC steamer's to DDC

I had a DC 0-6-0 when I converted to DCC. After taking it apart and seeing no room in the locomotive, I decided it wasn't worth the effort to try to put the decoder in the tender and rewire. I looked around and I could get a new DCC (no sound) from modeltrainstuff.com for $70. I actually got a DCC 0-6-0 off ebay new in box for about $55 including shipping. It was from a set.

HO / Bachmann Diesel Locomotives - Swapping Shells
September 14, 2016, 05:52:22 PM
Are the Bachmann DCC equipped diesel locomotive shells interchangeable with the Bachmann DCC equipped with sound diesel locomotives?
I have GP38-2 DCC equipped and GP 38-2 DCC equipped with sound and would like to swap shells.
