One of these!

Newly restored to operation. REAL 30 inch gauge superpower! Note how "small" the locomotive is compared to a man.

Great video !   Great locomotive !   Thank you for sharing.

OTOH, my observations only, the O-scale narrow gaugers with radius' large enough to realistically run a 2-10-2 are typically from the On3 crowd, not the On30.

Still, enjoyed seeing what you had to share.

My vote from last year was for a Class A Climax, but I have since discovered that this is now being 3D printed by a group in Canada, So I am scratching that out for my wish from last year.

for 2019, I'm jumping on the bandwagon, and voting for re-run's of the Shay and Climax with improved gears.

As far as unique request, I'm voting for a re-run of the Forney with mods to allow it to go around tight corners with the ability to NOT yank the trailing cars off the track.

Fingers crossed.

I'd be willing to bet the majority of On30ers were mesmerized by the geared engines. I think if the shay and climax were reintroduced, it would be a huge boost. As it is now, newcomers to the scale don't have any of the "gee whiz" locos to choose from.

STUFF DELETED HERE

You sure have me figured out.  I came from years of (attempting) to do HOn3.

Had a few pieces of beautiful brass.  that ran about as well as you might expect 1970's vintage brass to run.

I currently own (2) Bachmann On30 Shays, (3) Climax's and just (1) Heisler (so far).   All but one runs great (needs repair) and I consider myself blessed by the availability of not only Bachmann geared On30 locomotives, but also the aftermarket that has popped up to customize those locomotives.

On one hand, I see people complaining as it appears to them that Bachmann has slowed down.  OTOH, Narrow gauge wise, Bachmann has already covered a large majority of the bases.

Certainly, if Bachmann announced a Class A Climax and a Williamette for next year, I would be standing in line to buy one.

Things could always be better, but overall, IMHO, we have things pretty good right now.

Funny you'd mention this. I won't name names, but a very nice gentleman from Bachmann was at the Portland NTS is 2015 and I gave him some photos of stuff I thought might sell, such as a ET&WNC-marked tank car (just new lettering on the undec one they already sell) as well as some of the modifications I'd made on their other existing stuff that would easily go with their ET&WNC marked ten-wheelers (they make 4 different road numbers for that road name but not one piece of rolling stock lettered for that RR).  ???
I even offered to make him a set of decals so he could built a prototype as he said it sounded like a good idea to him as well. I did sent him a computer file of the graphics I used to make those decals (on a undec tank car) via email when he asked.

Understood.  I came, just a few years back, from struggling with HOn3.  I'm very much both a narrow gauge person and a geared locomotive person.  It took me years to accumulate a small rooster of 1970's vintage HOn3 brass, geared locomotives.  As one might expect, they looked great and were very expensive.  Unfortunately, they ran like one might expect that 1970's vintage brass would.  I'm not skilled enough, and could never find anyone I could pay to bring those item up to what might meet 21st century expectations.  And here I am.

Among a bunch of other Bachmann On30 motive power options, I own 2 Shays, 3 Climax's, and a Heisler.  They all run much better then my 1970 vintage brass.  I feel exceedingly spoiled.

I've also purchased a bit of MOW items, business cars and pass. cars, mostly Bachmann but also a bunch of other vendors.  What I want that isn't directly available, I've been able to modify, and create thru paint and decals (referencing your tank car reference above).

Generally, though, there's not much they can make that I'd want as a model a specific line. Still, even though I find the Bachmann On30 coaches too short for the prototype I model, I'd probably buy a couple of them if they offered them as ET&WNC coaches as well...

I understand your comments regarding car lengths and prototypes.

I guess I'm at the other end of the spectrum here.  I appreciate rivet counters, they keep vendors on the straight and narrow.  But that's not me.  Layout wise, I'm very much a a 1970's vintage free lance modeler.  Same for business cars.  I *thought* I pretty much had all the cars I needed and would just buy new stuff here and there.  Then, when the 18' stuff was released, I became enamored with that also.  I literally, just received a large box today from FedEx ground stuff full of Bachmann 18' business cars.  Prototypical or not, I think those are great.

But just because I have what I need, doesn't mean there's not a lot of room for Bachmann to move.
An Army 2-8-2 in On30 would be great (I'd buy one for sure) as would any accurate WP&Y locomotive.

There seem to be, disportionally, a large number of these "Bachmann seems to be pulling away from On30 since Lee Riley's death", and I guess there is something driving this that is just oblivious to me.

Repeating myself, coming from HOn3, I do feel spoiled given the easy acquisition of geared narrow gauge locomotives, but, after some thought, If I had the opportunity to whisper in Bachmann's ear and suggest a new item, I think that my request would be a Class A Climax.

thanks for sharing your tank car and 2-8-2 Army comment.

Yeah, I was looking through the announcements at the NTS to see if anything cool in On30 was coming out from anyone.
Nothing but crickets chirping heard instead.  :-[
I have a sinking feeling that ever since Lee Riley's passing, Bachmann has been slowly backing away from the On30 table.

We've already had several new offerings from Bachmann this year, both motive power, business cars and MOW cars.   I'm not interested in all of those, but I have purchase more than half of the new 2018 offerings.

I'm not a manufacturer, so this comment is pure speculation on my part, but as each business year passes, and with new items being brought up for sale, I'm guessing it must be harder to determine what is the best option for new products each successive year.

Or, approaching your comment from a different angle, is there something specific you're waiting for Bachmann to release, but they haven't?   It doesn't, or at least shouldn't, hurt to let others know of your wants and needs, and be a bit of a squeaky wheel.

Not sure what specifically you need, but I hope Bachmann, or some manufacture begins production of it in the near future.

I, myself, would love to be able to purchase a Bachmann/Spectrum On30 Class A Climax at sometime in the future.

Maybe its just me, or film speed, but that Class A Climax seems to be moving at a pretty good clip headed down the mountain, beginning around time mark 3:03.

I'm still not completely sure exactly what, or where NSW is?  The best I can come up with from Internet searches indicate it is in Australia, New South Wales?  Is this correct?

That is cool. I'll have to ponder that. The number of times I've needed small screws like that is very few.

and usually it is for me also.  I always try to be very careful.

OTOH, I suspect that there are very few of us here that can't relate to your "lost very small screw" story.

At least for me, it was worth the money to have a nice backup.  The Micro-Mark screw kit, I believe, will be a very nice "Plan B".

FYI, this is at least remotely related.

Got an email advertisement for metric micro screws from Micro-Mark.  Just placed an order for a set of these.

I fully expect that I will use/need these both for coupler screws and other needs.

So now we have a rumor started from another rumor. ;D

Hello Terry,

Not sure if this was pointed at my comment or not.

It wasn't my intent to start a Blackstone rumor.  My only intent was to state that Bachmann has, at least recently, been taking better care of us than Blackstone has been taking care of the HOn3 community, and for that I was thankful.

Nothing else is implied, or meant to be "read between the lines".  Just stating that I was happy that Bachmann has pushed a few new products out the door for us to purchase.

Back to the OP, I would still be interested in seeing the source of this "new rumor".

I'm curious to see the source also.

Mostly, I'm curious if it is something actually new, or the same old stuff that has been floating around the last couple of years.

You're probably aware, Bachmann just released a new-to-us 0-6-0 and several new cars.  I always appreciate more, but I'm happy for what ever attention, and new product releases.

I'm not following the HOn3 world as closely as I used to, but its been some time since I've seen anything new from BlackStone.

I can assure you my good man, that our shipping guys are positively anal about getting them out in the order received.

However, the USPS thwarts our efforts at every turn. The shipping times make no sense whatsoever. People on the east coast received magazines days ahead of people that live mere miles from our warehouse. I still haven't gotten my copies yet here in Colorado, and I'm the friggin' Editor! Sigh....

Chris

Hello Chris,

Thank you for the "view from the inside" regarding shipping.

And while I have your attention, Thank you, both to yourself, and everyone involved in getting the 2018 On30 Annual out.  It is an excellent annual IMHO and I am already enjoying it extensively.

Don't take any of the earlier comments negatively, but rather, if this is all people have to complain about, life must be pretty good!!    :)
