Yes it is large scale. I'm not sure what decoder but it is a Prodigy2 controller.
Thanks Dave

General Discussion / Unrecognized doc loco

I have an early Shay locomotive that has been converted to DCC. I have no knowledge of its history. I can not get my controller to recognize it. There is a switch labeled inc and dec on the bunker. Any suggestions?

Thanks again Hunt.
From what I can see, the only LEDs are the front and rear lights. The cab light, firebox and ash pan are 12v and do not need a resistor?

Thanks Hunt. Do you know if I have to add resistors to the LEDs?

Installing Digitraxx Tsunami2 in 3 truck Shay. Soundtraxx calls for 680 ohm resistors on the negative side of all LEDs. Since the Shay already uses LEDs, are they in place on the board or do they, indeed, need to be added?

Installing Soundtraxx Tsunami2 in 3 truck Shay. Tsunami2 calls for ground wire but there is no ground in the wiring connection list. The only ground I see in the DCC wiring diagram is the blue wire from the ash box PCB. Can I use that blue wire as the called for ground?

Thanks Stan and Bill for the help. Sounds like a fairly easy conversion.

Okay I think I see what to do now. Wires 1,2,3 and 4 move from the main board to the decoder. There is another plug that is unused on the dc version that plugs into the other side of the decoder. Add a speaker and job done.
That is relatively easy if I'm correct.
Stan, do you recommend the Tsunami?
Thanks, Dave

Thanks Stan,
Do I need 2 decoders-one for sound and one for motion? I'm assuming that the Bachman/Soundtraxx decoder does all functions. Since Soundtraxx eliminated the Econami 4A, I'm guessing the Tsunami is the recommended decoder.

Bill, thanks for the info.
Hopefully Stan and Kevin will see this and give me some advice. You have set me on the right path.

Thanks Bill. I'm assuming a dcc receiver is the same as a decoder. Is this a plug and play? If I add sound,is that also plug and play? I'm seeing online people tearing units apart to add dcc and sound and hoping that is not necessary. Thanks again, Dave

I recently purchased a 3 truck Shay item#82498. I am new to this. I have not lubricated yet so can not run. Does this have sound? Also it states it is DCC ready. What do I need to convert to DCC?
