I don't know if anyone else has noticed this yet, but the Narrow Gauge Box Vans and Brake Vans (both in red and blue) are now for sale on Bachmann's official store. No word on whether retailers like TrainWorld have gotten them so far.

Interestingly, the N Scale Box Vans are also been added to the store, but they are not yet for sale. Hoping their production cycle will be finished soon.

I definitely agree with the idea of Mavis in N Scale! Since she has never been produced in Large Scale to date, it would be a perfect opportunity for Bachmann to introduce a new engine in the range while still being cost-efficient. After Edward and Henry, it'd be worth considering Mavis as one of the first supporting characters to produce.

The N Scale range in general continues to impress and Chaz's review just about summed up Toby's best qualities. I'm honestly considering eventually buying him after reading it, and I also imagine he'll be a great seller for his price point alone. Here's hoping they're able to start working on Henrietta soon to compliment him.

In all fairness, Mavis isn't a top-priority character in N Scale compared to Edward and Henry. The latter two were major mainstays in the show for most of its history, and I get where people are coming from in pushing them. Even I admit that they're bigger priorities at the moment. Once Bachmann is finished with them, however, there's more room to grow with side characters.

Chaz does bring up a good point on Mavis standing out as a female engine who doesn't rely largely on gimmicks. She would probably be one of the more visually natural additions to the line in regards to that.

I'm personally not a fan of Diesel, and I still don't think that I would purchase a potential N Scale model of him. That being said, the reasoning behind his demand is understandable and I wouldn't mind if he and Paxton were the first side characters announced.

Now that I think of it, the Express Coaches make pretty good sense to announce alongside Henry. It helps that Gordon is making steady progress and one could see their release happening soon after Gordon. Both Henry and the Express Coaches would make for a great set of announcements for the summer.

A bit of a long shot, but I would love to see Mavis added in the range at some point. If a Large/G Scale version is not likely for the long run, N Scale would also work well. She's been a prominent character for most of the show's history and she could efficiently re-use Toby's chassis. The biggest drawback, however, is that she hasn't had any new merchandise in a decade and she may be a tough character for Mattel to greenlight as a result.

The N Scale samples shown off in the latest TrainWorld stream were phenomenal to say the least. There was more shown off than I anticipated, and it looks like things are going smoothly for the range. We can hopefully expect Toby, Toad and the box vans to arrive in the coming months now that their paintwork is done.

Gordon's prototype was definitely the highlight of the updates and well worth the wait! They absolutely nailed the sculpt and the siderod configuration also looks solid. Interestingly, the face was shown off which isn't usual for prototypes shown on stream. Nonetheless, it looks great too. I anticipate seeing his painted model.

Henry would be perfect to announce this summer, like Chaz and TrainFan97 said. Rolling Stock can go any pretty much direction, but Henry comes highly recommended as the next engine.

Logging onto the forums again for the first time in a while. It's good to be back--

To summarize my thoughts on Bachmann's products and announcements within the past year, they've certainly been providing a lot more than I was expecting. I'm pretty happy that they've been doing as much as they could for each of the ranges, and most of the products have a fair reason for being greenlit despite what the fans may think of them.

The announcements that interest me the most this year are in the N Scale range. Like Chaz said, its growth has been rather impressive and it's great to see that Bachmann has been making some logical and reasonable choices for new products. I cannot wait to pick up Henrietta, and the Box Vans are going to be great too! The Emily set was unexpected, but still a welcome addition and a great way for the casual consumer to purchase both her and the coaches at the same time. If the announcements in this range are anything to go by, they've certainly been taking note of fans' suggestions overtime.

Understandably, not much new offerings for Narrow Gauge are present, and nothing new has been announced for Large/G Scale. Bachmann has a lot of catching up to do across the board and I suspect that there won't be too much announced in the summer as a result. If anything, I would hope for N Scale Henry to be announced since Gordon's production is underway, and maybe the Red Coaches as a stretch since Annie and Clarabel have been around for a while now.

Best wishes to Bachmann as the year continues! Hopefully, it'll be a productive one for them.

The idea of a central thread for future hopes does sound good, and I'd love to partake in it by sharing a handful of options I personally hope to see in the near future with brief summaries of reasoning attached. Most of the contents are those that have already been frequently demanded by fans in recent years.

HO SCALE:

  • Stepney - An iconic engine who has a reasonable size and fair levels of detail, as well as one of the few remaining Season 1-5 engines in HO Scale.
  • Glynn - Taking into account Terence's point with Winston about small models being accomplished overtime, I feel that Glynn has at least some chance of being made. He would be cool to see in the future, and he would also be very much complementary with LBSC 70 Thomas and Origins James.
Like the others said, I don't think we will see a new engine introduced next year, but it would be nice to have either of the two mentioned.

  • Tar Tanker reintroduction - An iconic tanker and easy recolor which has regularly appeared in past merchandise ranges.
  • James'/Red Express Coaches reintroduction - Iconic coaches and easy recolors that can compliment the latest James revision.
  • Judy and Jerome - I've always been puzzled as to why the Breakdown Train has never been made in HO Scale. Since Diesel 10 and Harvey have become frequent suggestions, Rocky would likely be too expensive to produce, and Ryan, Daisy and Origin James are being produced, I think Judy and Jerome would be worth looking into at some point. They would both be very profitable and unique options for new HO Scale rolling stock. Like Harvey, Cranky's mechanism could be used as a reference point.

NARROW GAUGE:

  • Sir Handel - An iconic engine who is frequently demanded by fans and complementary to all Narrow Gauge engines released so far. I don't own any Narrow Gauge engines yet, but I would love to have Sir Handel by my first since he is my favorite of the bunch.
  • Green Open Carriage - Like Terence said, this is an aesthetically pleasing product that would be interesting to see eventually produced.

N SCALE:
Much like Terence, there's quite a bit I hope to see for this scale. I'll stick to what feels the most financially likely within the next year's length.

  • Edward - A beloved engine who is similar in physique to James and can help make N Scale distinct from Large Scale. He would also be much cheaper to produce in N Scale. If he were announced, I would absolutely reserve him immediately.
  • Tidmouth Milk Tanker - An iconic tanker and easy recolor which has regularly appeared in past merchandise ranges.
  • Coal Wagon w/Load - With wagons having a lot of potential for recolors, I think this would be the best one to produce after S.C. Ruffey eventually releases.
  • Red Coaches - Iconic coaches and fairly easy, profitable retoolings/recolors that have previously appeared in HO and will also be made in Large Scale.
  • Henrietta - An iconic coach who would be complementary to Toby and can help make N Scale distinct from Large Scale. She would also cheaper to produce in N Scale. If she were made, I would imagine her having a GCI face unlike the HO Scale version.
  • Brake Van (normal) - I personally think it is too early for this particular range to introduce too much gimmicky rolling stock, so it would probably be best to introduce a normal Brake Van before the Spiteful version. Graham Farish's tooling can be reused.

LARGE SCALE:

  • LBSC 70 Thomas & Origins James - Probably the likeliest options for a new engine(s) in the foreseeable future. They're both iconic recolors and cost-effective options for a new engine without committing to a new tooling.
  • Mavis - I would love to own a Large Scale version of Mavis, as long as they base her off the HO Scale model and avoid using the tacky headlamp from her last appearances. She's probably the most cost-effective option for a new tooling since Toby's chassis can be reused and her geometry is fairly simple.
  • Toby's Museum Coaches - Like Terence said, these feel pretty likely and would be welcome additions.

It was wise for most of us to keep our expectations low all things considered, but what we got this year are still very much nice and welcome .

I haven't been a big fan of Bachmann introducing so many HO Christmas-themed Thomas sets within the last several years, but I will say that I like how they always make each one different and interesting in some way. The inclusion of Toad's basis is cool pun intended and I look forward to seeing that sleigh wagon in physical form.

At long last, the Red Coaches are coming to Large Scale! I had a strong feeling that they would come next and I'm certain they will make many Large Scale modellers happy. The range has had a fair share of remarkable announcements recently - between Diesel, Paxton and the Red Coaches - and I hope to see it continue to thrive in its offerings in the foreseeable future. Though I cannot account for potential other rolling stock, it would be great to see LBSC Thomas or Bill and Ben join the range as its next engine offering(s).

Great, thanks for the response. I actually almost forgot about Thomas Tuesdays for a little while! :P

Can anyone remind me when NMRA is supposed to be hosted? I'm eager to see what's in store for this year, but I don't know when exactly it's going to take place.

Thomas & Friends / Re: BoCo or Diesel 10
June 10, 2021, 10:33:58 AM
Funnily enough, I actually thought of Derek as a next-best choice if Boco isn't an option. He does happen to share the same number of wheels as Daisy and his basis wouldn't be too difficult to replicate. The only major drawback is that he appeared in just one episode, but that hasn't stopped anyone from requesting Smudger so far. Much like Boco, Derek hasn't received any merchandise in a long time and he would go nicely with Bill & Ben. It would be a treat to see either character made if Bachmann wanted to make another longer diesel.

I'm personally not a big fan of Diesel 10, mostly for the fact that Mattel has milked him in almost every toy line they've produced/managed despite appearing very rarely. I do acknowledge that he is a generally consistent request and that he may not be completely impossible to make, but I just feel like announcing Diesel 10 as the next long diesel engine would be somewhat predictable and that Bachmann is better off continuing to make their Thomas line distinct from the toys sold in the mainstream markets. I would most likely opt not to purchase a model of him if it were made.

Boco, on the other hand, I would most certainly see myself purchasing on the chance that he is made. Granted, Stepney has a lot more demand between him and Boco, but Boco is still a very good option to keep considering once Stepney is announced. Both characters have not had any merchandise in a long time, and to have Bachmann produce both in the same line would be a treat considering how much trouble most of the side characters have gone through in recent years of Thomas merchandise.

If I had the choice for another long diesel engine, it would be Boco. But of course, everyone has their own say on the matter and I respect those who choose differently with Diesel 10.

I just tuned into today's 'Thomas Tuesday' stream on TrainWorld's YouTube channel. It was a very enjoyable stream with some good content!

Both the HO Scale Daisy and James were shown off in closer detail, and they were also shown in motion. Official pictures of them are likely to be uploaded on the Bachmann online store soon. Both models are shaping up to be great, at least in my opinion, and I look forward to reserving them. They might actually be the first Thomas models that I end up reserving-

No big updates on other products were shared, but it was said that good progress is being made with Peter Sam and the first test shot of him should be shared within the near future.

I really wish I was able to properly attach photo proof, but the HO Scale James is also receiving another update - this time with a fully painted smokebox, finally. The updated model should be shipping out fairly soon alongside several engine restocks on TrainWorld's website.

Like past streams, the event will likely be uploaded on TrainWorld's channel soon for everyone to see in case they missed it.

Funnily enough, my predictions are just about the same as TrainFan's, although I'm not so sure if we'll get a new Large Scale engine immediately after Diesel and Paxton. Bill and Ben are still a good idea worth continuing to mention if we don't see any new Large Scale engines announced this summer.

Thomas & Friends / Re: N Scale Bachmann Thomas

Henrietta is another very good idea for a new piece of N Scale rolling stock. Like Edward and the Cattle Wagon, Henrietta can make the N Scale range more distinct from Large Scale and she feels much more likely to happen in N Scale as well. I can see her being well-received if she were announced and I would definitely buy her along with Toby.

Both the Milk Tanker and a regular Brake Van are also fairly important options that are best taken care of soon. I can't imagine either of them being difficult to make in any way.

After S.C. Ruffey is eventually released and some of the missing pieces are hopefully announced in this summer's NMRA, one way Bachmann can potentially expand their N Scale rolling stock is by announcing future additions in batches. It's something that has been done fairly often with their other ranges in recent years, and it could be an efficient way of bulking up the variety with both new toolings and recolors. I thought of some ideal batches, mostly consisting of options that haven't been made in Large Scale yet:

  • Red Open Wagon, Blue Open Wagon, Coal Wagon (this batch is based off an existing tooling, but still worth a mention)
  • Cattle Wagon, GW Cattle Wagon, White Cattle Wagon
  • Mail Coach, Utility Van
  • (x2) Red Coaches, (x2) Toby's Museum Coaches
  • (x2) Gordon's Express Coaches, (x2) Red Express Coaches
I think I'm getting ahead of myself here, but it's an idea I thought of recently that felt like it needed to be shared.

For the moment, however, the rolling stock that should take top priority are Henrietta, Milk Tanker and the original Brake Van. They've been noticeably missing in the range for varying lengths of time now and it would be nice to have them added sooner than later.
