Well, the sound wouldn't work as wired so I bypassed the pot and wired straight to the speaker.  Works fine now.  I know I don't need the on off/volume knob with DCC but it was there and would have been convenient.
I'm not sure how it was supposed to be wired up but my way was obviously wrong.

Large / Annie Rubber Hose
April 11, 2021, 06:55:07 PM
The parts store doesn't show it.  I need some of the rubber hose that connects the trim pipes under the cab of Annie's.  Mine ripped when I was trying to take apart the engine.  What is left is too short to span the gap.  I'm holding the pipe up with a ziptie so it doesn't get caught in the drivers.  I am guessing this is standard hose of some sort.  Anyone know of a good source for this stuff?

The Krylon color master satin burgundy is still a perfect match.  Was worried at first because it looked too red when it was wet but when it dried it was spot on.  Thank you.

Thank you.  After looking at it closely I figured that is what it's for.  But I'll be darned if I can find a schematic, that I can understand, which shows how to wire those two lugs.   I'm gonna guess that I would wire it in series between the + wire from the decoder and lug 1 (input)on the Pot?  Or would I put on the ground side?

The Pot in my Annie tender has 5 lugs with wires connected.  I am familiar with three lug pots.  What are the other two side lugs for?  I cannot find any wiring diagrams for 5 lug pots.
I ripped out the circuit board as I am installing a Zimo decoder with sound.  While the Zimo can control the volume thru programming variables and inputs, it is cumbersome with my NCE controller.  It would be a lot easier to just hook the pot to the speaker.  I just want to know if I need to use the side lugs for anything?
Thanks

Large / Re: Bachmann 2-6-2?

Apparently it is a Buddy L. Railway Express Die Cast Engine.  It shares a lot of parts with a Bachmann 4-6-0.  Did Bachmann build this for Buddy L?  Any known issues with the Buddy L. engines?  Especially that would cause tracking issues in curves?

I think I will start by assuming the pilot is a similar sliding design as the old 4-6-0s.  So I will see if the wire or screw or something is causing binding.  Might just need some grease.  I doubt it will be that simple though.

I'd like to see some cars which do some form of action, like some of the old Lionel ones did.  You know, something to get the kids to want to actually PLAY with the trains.  I have the bubble car which my daughter just loves.  She chases it around the patio popping the bubbles.
And the dynamite car is always a hit.  <wink>
The Bachmann stock cars with the moving animal heads are cool.
Way back when, LGB made an automatic gondola which dumped its load via track magnet.  I would love an American version of that.  Or an auto unloading flat car with logs/pipes/barrels etc.
Other ones I've seen which would fit with the military theme, the missile and helicopter launching cars.
Plenty of others.

Well, I guess I'll have to get two; Billy and Teddy!

I hope they have an Excellent Adventure when they run together.

Large / Bachmann 2-6-2?
January 25, 2021, 11:11:32 PM
Did Bachmann ever make a 2-6-2 in large scale using the same tender as the 4-6-0?
A local restaurant is having issues with their ceiling train jumping the track.  I'm trying to identify the engine to see if maybe there are known issues with it running on tight radius track or something else.  The restaurant was busy at the time so I couldn't really do anything.
This engine is black with copper colored boiler in UP livery.

Thank you.  I will buy some Krylons and test them.

Large / Annie Maroon color?
January 23, 2021, 08:07:51 PM
I'm relettering a SPC Annie and accidentally wore through the paint on the engine cab.  Didn't realize it was painted as the color on the tender  is part of the plastic.  Has anyone been able to find a match to the maroon color?  So far, I haven't found one with the testors, humbrol or revelle paints I've looked at.  Not sure if this color is specific to this road name.  It looks similar to the other engines with this color but I have never put them side by side.  If you have matched the color to the other engines, and maybe even the cars, please let me know.
Thanks.

Large / Re: Annie lamp voltage?
January 17, 2021, 11:06:20 PM
I think I asked the question wrong.  What is the voltage of the circuit?  Rectified 5v, 12v, 18v, connected straight to track power, etc..?

What is the voltage rating of the LEDs in the 5th gen Annie?

Large / New Pilot in gen 5 Annie?
January 13, 2021, 12:16:58 AM
Searched but didn't see this question.
Will the new style gen 6 pilot easily mount into an older 5th gen Annie chassis?
If so, how does it mount?  Does it just screw on the bottom of the chassis?
Does the new style still need weights added above the axles to improve tracking and reduce derailments?

How about the Danny for DCC Annie?
