Large / Re: Spectrum 1:20.3 scale Coaches

I have three of the AMS passenger cars; 2 coaches with different road numbers, and a combine. I've changed out the trucks on all three with Bronson-Tate truck retrofit kits (BTT-02). The kits include new wheel sets with ball bearing axels. They roll like crazy with the electrical contacts still in place.

Large / Re: Numbers on tank cars and others

I actually have three Gramps tank cars with different numbers on them. The first run had only one number available while the second run has two numbers available.

As far as voltage goes; I run my four large scale (all Bachmann) locomotives with 14.4 vDC feeding Aristo Train Engineers. These probably drop another volt or so. So running at about 13 volts the engines and the Phoenix sound works fine.

I bought mine from Wiseman Models a number of years ago. Don't know if they still make them.

Large / 30th National Narrow Gauge Convention
July 13, 2010, 10:47:11 PM
Anyone going to the 30th National Narrow Gauge Convention in St. Louis on Sept 1 -4?  My wife and I will be taking AMTRAK from Chicago to St. Louis then renting a car.

Jack,

I've just built my first garden railroad and am in the process of getting it ready for my first club open house. I run all Bachmann Spectrum locomotives and a mix of Bachmann, AMS, and Hartford Products rolling stock. I'd be happy to talk to you about my experiences.

Large / Re: Questions about the Big Top Circus Set
October 19, 2009, 05:47:41 PM
I just received the Bachmann Brothers Circus Train set (engine, tender, zebra car, and caboose) from Tainworld in New York along with the tank car and both flats with animal cages. VERY good prices! They are also advertising the passenger car, and both tent cars as being available. My Grandkids should be very happy with them later this year.

Large / Log car couplers
September 17, 2009, 08:29:03 PM
Several years ago while traveling to the Long Beach area for business I visited the Big Train Show on the Queen Mary. The large scale club ot there , Oro Pacific, I think, ran a log train with Bachmann log cars. The owner had removed the truck mounted couplers and replaced them with body mounted Kadee couplers. Does any one have any information on which model coupler was used, any issues with height adjustment, or any other pertinent information.

I was able to schedule trips to coincide with the train show weekend for several years . Funny how that happened!

Large / Sound System Reed Switches
August 01, 2009, 08:46:34 PM
Is there a standard or pseudo-standard for the mounting location of the magnetic reed switches used to trigger the bell and whistle functions for sound systems? That is, does the bell switch go on the fireman's side or the engineer's? The whistle switch would go on the opposite side.

Large / K27 Phoenix Sound Parameters
September 06, 2008, 04:46:51 PM
I was just playing around with the programmable settings for start voltage on the K27. I found that the start voltage for my engine was down around 1 volt to get it moving. Setting the parameter now lets the whistle signal sound prior to movement. The bell still does not respond as I'd like and more tweeking is in order. Has anyone else played around with these or other settings, and what were your findings? Of course the programming cable from Phoenix is required.

Thanks,
