General Discussion / Re: unit length
March 31, 2012, 08:30:09 AM

The Ballast Regulater 16947 is 8.250" from coupler pulling face to coupler pulling face and 7.5" from end sill to end sill.

Upper case "O" indicates O scale (1:48) the "n" indicates narrow gauge, the "3" indicates 3 feet between rails.  A single digit indicates feet.  The "30" indicates 30 inches between the rails.  Two digits  indicate inches.  30 inches may also be listed as 2.5 feet.  Actually On3 is 0.750" between the rails and On30 is 0.649" between rails the same as HO.

On30 / Re: Bachmann On21/2?
July 02, 2011, 10:17:31 AM
Hi,
C-21 was a D&RGW class of 2-8-0s from 1924 thru 1956.  C-21 was based on tractive effort.  2-8-0s were also classed C-16, C-17, C-18, C-19, & C-25.  Again all based on tractive effort and had nothing to do with gauge..  All were narrow gauge (3 feet).

Have given my MRs away.  But from 1924 to 1956 D&RGW C-21 was a class of NG 2-8-0s based on tractive effort.  Other 2-8-0 classes were  C-16, C-17, C-18, C-19, and C-25.  Believe this is what they're talking about.  The 2-8-2s were K classes, K-27, K-28, K-36 and K-37 as on the C&TS RR & the D&S.

General Discussion / Gold Box Cars
May 13, 2010, 08:40:05 AM
In Dec. 1966 the CB&Q Havelock shop painted 8 Boxcars gold.  4 road numbers are 17302 17786 60682 61417.  The BRHS only has these numbers.  Anyone know the other 4?

HO / Re: 18" Radius ?
November 01, 2009, 07:36:17 AM
The following WILL RUN on 18" radius, may not look good but will run:
UP 4000 4-8-8-4 BIG BOY..Rivarossi 5412
UP 3716 4-6-6-4 CHALLENGER...Rivarossi 5456
N&W 118 & 120 4-8-2 HEAVY MOUNTAIN...Bachmann 84203 & 82504
SRR 1401 4-8-2 LIGHT MOUNTAIN...Bachmann 81602
ACL 8003 2-10-0 RUSSIAN DECAPOD..Bachmann 81703
GN 2100 2-10-2 SANTA FE...IHC 2340
And anything smaller.
The only one that I've found not to run is the N&W 611 J Class 4-8-4... Bachmann 82103, it required milling to allow more travel for rhe trucks and the draw bar had to be lengthened 1/8".
The old N&W J Class 600... Bachmann 41-0658-A4 runs fine on 18" R.
Diesels later.

General Discussion / Re: Train vs. Tornado
July 08, 2009, 06:47:08 AM
A couple of things bother me about this.  Why is the camera pointed toward the rear of the consist rather than a "Dashcam" to record grade crossings etc.?  When the car rolled it would appear that they lost the "air" and the brakes should set and stop or at least slow the remaining cars.
Just wondering.

HO / Re: The DD90X 16 wheel Diesel?
December 19, 2008, 05:15:46 PM
I have a DD40AX, UP 6941, Bachmann #81307, which runs fine on 18" radius track.  May not look too good, but will do it no problem.

HO / Re: Length of Bachmanns Mountain
July 04, 2008, 07:23:51 AM
SteamGene.  Yes, the 82502 has an oil tender which appears to be a little longer than the USRA Long Tender and the 82503 has the longest tender.  The 82501, 82504, 82505, and 82506 all have the USRA Long Tender.  I've only got the 82504 so can only measure that.

Have them also and no idea what they are.  They measure about 3/8 X 3/16 and 1/16 thick.  Mystery of the week ;-).

HO / Re: Length of Bachmanns Mountain

Just measured both the Heavy and the Light.
Measured from coupler pulling face to coupler pulling face.
Heavy Mountain, Bachmann 82504 measures 12 13/16 with drawbar in "short" position.  93' in HO.
Same with drawbar in "long" position measures 12 15/16.  93' 11" in HO.
Light Mountain, Bachmann 81602 measures 12 1/8 with drawbar in "short" position.  88' in HO.
Same with drawbar in "long" position measures 12 1/4.  88' 11" in HO.
