Put all my lights in my fixture, it has two sockets mounted side by side, and all look the same except the one that came mounted on the engine which is much yellower, softer, than the others.  Like it much better...............................Jerry

Thanks Yardmaster, as you can see from info above, i have changed several CVs on the engine before I installed the sound board.  I will try the reset and see what
happens. I believe the board isinstalled correctly, but cant see the pins as they are below the board.  Will check again.............

I ordered the engine and sound board from Mico-Mark.  The sound board came immediately but the engine just showed up.  I got the engine running first then installed the sound board.  No sound, Jamie sent me some info but it didn't work and said the board was from B'mann, not them.  I sent an email to service on 3-22 but have heard nothing.  I want to have the sound decoder checked to see if it is ok, if so, it is my engine, if not it is the board.  I have no way of checking as I can only plug the sound decoder into the Heisler.  Maybe Mr. Bachmann can can help. Railtwister, I haven't tried moving the connector wire, want to get the sound working first then tackle that problem.  Thanks for your comments folks..........

Well I am running well but no sound.  Jamie sent me some info but it didn't work.  I don't know if it is the engine or the sound decoder.  The decoder seems to be accepting CV writes and reads but nothing works.  Jamie thinks it might be the engine or speaker but I have no idea how to check.  Any more ideas folks?  For Steve
my headlight works fine but I can't get the backup light reinstalled because the wire is too short to allow me to push the sockets on the led pins, so I have left it off for the present.

??? Good question, I was looking at mine and wonder the same thing.  Guess you could drill through the box and put a piece of wire in. Also my backup wire is too short to easily push on the led pins. Anyone else have this problem and what did you do?

;D  Thanks to Jamie at Soundtraxx, I got it running.  CV29 was set to analog on, a 6.  Changed it to 2 which is analog off.  Maybe they tested it at the factory in analog and left it.  I am using an original Digitrax Zephyr DCS 50 with a booster Yardmaster.  Thanks again for your help folks.......

On30 / Heisler Problem
March 17, 2013, 05:28:31 PM
???  Put my new Heisler on the track and it won't run properly.  When I apply DCC, it starts creeping along.  I have no control, just moves ahead very slowly.  I put it on the programming track and I can read and write CVs.  I reset CV8 to 8 as instructed but nothing changed.  Don't have sound mod installed.  If I gently rock the engine back and forth. the headlight blinks occasionally but this is all.  Any thoughts?

General Discussion / Re: Could've been worse...

As a long time conductor on our excursion train, we have someone trying to go around the crossing gates at least once a month.  The last was about 2-3 weeks ago.  Most make it as we on travel about 20 mph.  One didn't and we pushed him thru the crossing and into the bar ditch.  He then jumped out of the car and ran.  He didn't come back until the Police and wrecker were there towing his wreck away.  He had so many excuses like the gates weren't down ( they were torn off by his car), the bells weren't working (were still ringing when the Police got there), I didn't see it coming (and he is driving?).  Finally one of the Policemen said something to the effect, OK kid, you have told us a bunch of stories, now what the.........really happened?  He was watching a ball game on TV and was late for work and thought he could beat us around the gate.  Yeah, well he was lucky this time, he missed work all together but is still alive.

As a current fireman on the oil fired 2248 ten-wheeler on the Grapevine (TX)
Vintage RR, we sand the flues at least twice on each trip, once going to Ft. Worth and once coming back.  If it appears that fireing is getting harder, we first sand.  We burn re-refined or used motor oil.  We buy it from companies that pump out jiffy-lube type places.  We only use diesel fuel if we are having problems with the fuel oil, hard to light off.  Our atomizers are not set up to burn diesel.

The trick to being a fireman is control of the products of combustion in the firebox.  The mixture of air and fuel is the key.  Too much fuel and you can have burning fuel dripping out of the fire box because it can't be burned as fast as you are feeding it to the atomizer.  Too little steam and you burn too much fuel and create black smoke of unburned particles of oil which will coat your cars with small black dots of oil-a mess.

Being the fireman is the hardest job on a steam train, just ask one.

:)Darryl-I fire our SG 10-wheeler here in Northern Texas (2248) and people don't realize how hot it gets in the cab.  When it is 105 or so outside, I have measured temps of 150-160 in the cab when not moving.  But...there is nothing like it, wouldn't trade it for any other job!
