I have a small layout with a 15" 16 1/2" and an 18" radis curves.  I have run everthing (with cars) but the Forney.  I even ran the 2-8-0-no problens and my track is Atlas 100 code track.  just a note the 2-8-0 also runs at any speed.  But yes,  18" os more forgiving.  I did have to shim up at the beginning of the 15" curve.

Gentlemen, At the Colorado Railroad museum there are 3 large narrow gauge diesel locomotives that all cane from the Rio Grande.  I believe that they are #110,15,130.  and we also have a GE switcher, a small plymouth and a Caterpillar switcher #50 that I believe SMR trains makes a brass model of.   I could be wrong about their numbers, I'm not a diesel fan, but have worked on some at the Museum.

I have a very small layout.  I have a curve on one end that is 18" and the other is 15'.  Have had no trouble with shays, 2-9-0. 2-6-0.  I cut my forney down(2-4-0) because it wound go around the curves.  Some people say that back the forney with no problem.
Like said above the bigger the better. my layout is a trapezoid 5 feet long and only 39" on the small end. That's all the room I have.

Does anyone know of a place to get a logging front for a 2-6-9?  Mine cane with a cattle catcher and I would like to change it for a logging loco.

Thanks for all the info.  This is the first time I have cut up a loco to make it something also.  With the cost of some of these locos I sure think twice before cutting into one.  But I need the shorter locos on my track.

I just ordered the cab from Mount Blue.  Are you using the tender trucks for power?  If so what trucks did you use?  I would like to keep the tender but the trucks need to be changed.

I found it. Somone had one on Ebay for sale.  They had taken a 2-4-4 Forney and cut it off just behind the cab doors and made a tender that was seperate.  The roof had to be shortened.  Looked very nice.  I have a forney on a very tight track and I think I will do the same because it won't stay on the 15" radius.

Doesanyone know if Bachmann has made a 2-4-0 either in the US or world marjet?

While waiting you get a kit from wiseman models for about 60 dollars and mount it on a ahm ho model.

after having worked as a volunteer for the Colorado Railroad Museum for a while with both steam an diesel powered, I must say the diesel is easy to start and drive.  The steam need pampering and are very dirty.
But the steam are hands down more fun to work with. Which is why my layout only has seam>
