CAN THE DECODERS SECOND LIGHT OUTPUT BE USED FOR SOMETHING OTHER THE DIRECTIONAL LIGHTING?  COULD IT BE PROGRAMED TO NUMBER BOARDS, OR DITCH LIGHTS ON AN F3 A?

On30 / Re: ADDING DCC TO A 2-6-0

Thanks for the quick reply.   I had used that article already to disassemble my Mogul.  I would never have been able to do it without that help.
I still am wondering though, what the purpose of the components on the tiny board, that the decoder plugs into are for on my 0-4-0 switcher?

On30 / ADDING DCC TO A 2-6-0
February 08, 2009, 10:51:34 PM
I purchased a Bachmann 0-4-0 gas switcher, with DCC on board.  I took the hood off the unit to put on the detail parts.  The decoder is plugged into a small circuit board, with capacitors on it.  Now what am I missing here? I bought a Bachmann decoder to install on my 2-6-0 and I thought the wiring from the decoder was supposed to go directly to the motor, lamps, power pickups, etc.  What is the circuit board and its parts for? Could they be eliminated?

Can anyone tell me what the purpose is of the large female phone plug is on the EZ Controller?  Is it a way to connect it to a computer?

Could you please tell what is the hardware differences, between a Spectrum locomotive and a DCC ready Spectrum locomotive is?  I want all my locomotives to run on DCC.  I purchased a Spectrum 2-6-0 Bumble Bee non DCC and a 2-8-0 with DCC on Ebay.  Lastly, does DCC put a constant voltage on the track, regardless of the throttle setting, for lighting? Thanks in advace for all of your help.

Thanks for all the info on the facts about EZ Command.  It was a big help.  I would now ask you all, what unit is best for programming decoders, both Bachmann and others.  I was looking at the Digitrax Zephyr, but I really would like to hear your experieces from using different units.  I would eventually get in to sound from the trains also. 8)

I had purchased the Bachmann train set with two Command Control diesels.  I was under the impression that the Bachman EZ Command system could control and progam all of the CV's on the decoder in the engines.  So, please correct me if I am wrong, but the EZ Command system can only reprogram the ID of the unit.  The speed steps, light control, momentum and all that, can only be programmed by buying a whole different DCC unit?

General Discussion / DCC CONFUSION!!

DCC sounded so great, until I brought it home.  Why can't I program all of the CV's on the Bachmann decoder?  The Bachmann decoder has all the functions I want, but I can't reprogram all of them?  Is this correct and if it is, then why?

General Discussion / Track Plan Software
December 26, 2008, 02:05:05 AM
Does Bachmann have a software program that uses EZ Track components to design a layout? What steps do you take to decide what your layout will look like?  I would like a layout circa the early 1900's with a passenger run and freight dealing with some industry such as mining, lumber, whiskey making or widget reclamation :D.  I want it to be a practical railroad operation, that can also deal with some whimsy and still do realistic railroad operations.
