On30 / 2 Truck Climax exhaust chuff rate
June 29, 2013, 11:45:11 AM
Hi - can anyone tell me what the chuff rate [chuffs per 1 turn of crank] is, or should be, for the Climax.   Probably an old question but don't seem able to find an answer.
Thanks in advance

Hi Bill  -

No they are not lower or even narrower than other On30 cars.  The new flat cars are approx. 4 1/2 ins long and approx. 5 ins wide.
If you go to   www.tower-models.com'   and follow the On30 links you will see all Bachman's On30 rolling stock in great colour.

If still in doubt, remember On30 is 1/48th scale, so multiply all your feet measurements by 12 [to get to inches] and then divide that result to get On30 sizes.
So 18' is   18 x 12 divide by 48 equals 4 1/2 ins!

Hope all this helps

General Discussion / Current drawn
February 25, 2013, 10:02:35 AM
Mr Bach-Man   -   Could/would you know what current is drawn by your 28tn Two Truck Climax fitted with sound when it starts off and under general running conditions?   When the loco arrives I shall be using my Lenz 100 for its control.
Many thanks

Ray  -  Many thanks for this info.  Just needed to know what sizes [ins or mm] things/stock are for building bridges and tunnel portals etc as and when needed on the layout.

I'm trying to get enough info together before I start to buy a loco and or stock.

I've been teaching a friend to 'weather' just by starting some thing simple.  If you have an old piece of stock that you don't want/use or buy a real cheap piece of HO, you can try yourself by the 'dry-brushing' method.

I prefer to use acrylic paint because if you're not happy with it, using another brush and water you can 'wash' it off.

Take your brush DRY and just 'wet' the very end of the bristles and using vertical strokes say, on a corner, just brush on the colour - the harder you brush the 'deeper' the colour.  To ease out the colour just moisten the bristles and 'thin' out the paint.

For various degrees of Rust, use an assortment of reds and browns.

It's hard to teach someone to 'weather' in words, so just 'mess' about on something old till you the hang of it,  But remember - LESS IS MORE - don't over do it or else it looks unreal.  Study photos, go out and look at your car [if you have one] or a passing truck and trailer, or a bus, especially this time of year when vehicles of all kinds get a little dirty.

As some one has said if you have an airbrush try that, again on something old.  Turn the paint flow right down but keep up the air pressure so that the paint 'dusts' the item.  I've done all my 50+ pieces of stock this way, light colours for deserts etc, darker for the wetter regions.

Have a go yourself -if you don't try, you'll never know, and then if you cann't, then you'll have to look to some one to do it for you.

On30 / New to ON30
February 24, 2013, 10:49:14 AM
I'm thinking of coming up from 'HO' to 'ON30', having run dcc on the former for nearly 10 yrs.
Can anyone tell where I can find the dimensions of ON30 locos and rolling stock.  I've found the 'parts' diagrams for spares etc, but I cann't find the 'ACTUAL' sizes [length - width - height] of anything.
Hattons will show me lengths but that's all.
Can someone help or point me in the right direction pls?
Many thanks
Garth
