Limited in scope would be black & white not red & white . Be in this hobby way to long not to realize theirs more modern equipment being designed and made for the new young blood coming in to the hobby. They model what they see today. And Bachmann has been making the crossbucks in b&w for at lease 30 years if not more. Time to kick it up a notch and revamp the product line. Theirs enough b&w sets to be had for years to come if they stopped producing them today. I doubt they will but I see no reason why the couldn't offer both color standards.  😉

Also check that wheels are not coming into contact into adjoining rails of opposite current. This will cause shorting. Normal DC loco will run normal in these areas were DCC can be a bit finicky. A minimal short in DC or break in current will not stop most DC locos where it will stop a DCC loco dead on the tracks.😊

      Any chance the HO Crossing accessory pack with 6 signals + 6 gates could be update so the gates are painted red & white instead of black & white ? Even better would be offering the signals separately from the EZ track crossing for modeling road crossings without having to get the EZ Track form base that's not needed. These crossing signals would make for a great static display models.

You can too control your turnouts with DCC but your DCC must have a function for controlling accessories and each turnout must have it's own decoder to control it.

    I had the original Terrain For Trains layout before the High Sierra module. It was based on John Allen's original HO Gorre & Daphetid layout. I bought that years ago at a Longs Drugs that had a model railroad department in it that did mail orders. It was a pretty fun layout to use until I started the main one I have now. I ended up giving it to a friend of mine so he could share it with his grandson. It was all scenic with all buildings attached, tracks blocked into segments and all they needed was to add a power pack & their own trains. The company that made this first layout had a building fire that destroyed the original mold that made it. They had a new mold designed and change the track configuration some including the stream on it. The first layout and first runs of the High Sierra layouts were painted pretty well. Though the last run of the High Sierra ones look awful. Should of stayed with the paler shades of colors than the darker ones they ended up using. I would suggest if you decide to get a High Sierra layout to go for the unpainted version. You'll save yourself about one hundred dollars for a lousy paint job. You can easily get a flat ground color using a Rustoleum or Krylon spray paint in several shades of gray and tan. Heck Rustoleum has a Khaki camoflage paint that light grey with a yellow tint to it. Makes a good weather rock look for a base coat to start with. I would also suggest cutting a piece of good wood to fit inside the layout and attach with screws at the sides to hold it in place. Keeps the layout from flexing and makes it more ridged. I've seen the Terrain For Trains layouts sold on E-Bay and at Internet Model Trains ( http://www.internettrains.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc ). Just look under N Scale then modular layouts. If you want to see the ghastly paint job then just look for the layouts on E-Bay and you'll see what I mean. But if you want something mobile and small that's quick and easy to get going this is it. But if you design something on your own you'll get what you want along with the functionality your looking for instead someone else's preconceived idea of what that is. This is a choice you'll have to make. :-)

 Since you replaced the track that should give you new rail joiners. But what do you mean by replacing speed controller?? Are you referring to a power pack (train transformer designed for model trains) or something else?? The only thing you haven't checked is your loco. Is it running correctly and have you cleaned the wheels? If your using a loco from a train set  I have that checked.  Depending on the manufacturer some locos in train sets are poorly made and don't run very well right out of the box. Best manufacturers of locos are Atlas, Kato. Lifelike Proto, Bachmann Spectrum. If the loco isn't made to quality it will not run properly and studder on the track running on a few inches and stopping.

Anyone reading this I hope you can answer this question for me? I have a Intermountian set of F3A & B that I would like to get another F unit to make a ABA set with. I was thinking about getting a Bachmann F7A to use in the mix but unsure if that loco will run with the Intermountain ones? Will either the new model with the DDC installed or the early "Bachmann Plus" version work?? Also note that I do not use DCC so doing a speed table change on the board is something I can't do at the moment.

The tender on the SF northern 4-8-4's (coal tender) does come apart but can't say for certain if the oil tenders do as I haven't owned one of those yet. I've taken a Richmond Controls mod for the 4-8-4 northern and added electrical wipers to the tender axles for better electrical pickup. Two other wire attach to the motor on the steamer and is connected at the drawbar with a mini plug to the tender.

The 70 tonner has a small foot print so it should navigate tight curves pretty easily

You might want to try using a jeweler's file and file a little on the plastic frog to cure the bumps in the road. It's been a while since I saw those older style B mann turnouts. Did they have plug in jacks that plugged into the turnout selector?

That 2-8-0 Consolidation is the best N scale steamer to date!!  Pulls nails, plows fields & extracts teeth.

      The older style of Bachmann track is similar to Atlas's code 80 and are interchangable. As far as reliability goes their about the same. Are you experiencing dead spots with the non-movable rails near the frog? Simple fix is to cut the plastic out at the back of the turnouts and carefully soldier jumpers from the outside rails. This helps out greatly when the movable rails become intermittent. You may also want to try as a quick fix using alcohol and clean the sides of the rails that touch when you route your trains. Any build here will prevent the electricity from flowing through out the turnout.

    Just saw the new advertizement for the new HO TOFC's (trailers On Flat Cars) in Model Railroader and wonder if these will be done in N scale??? Those sure would be a great offering from Bachmann right down to the same detailing as done on the HO versions..i.e....load ramps & side skirtings etc....
