Williams by Bachmann / Re: New O-27 Hudson running hot

Hello Lennyski..........
I am using the MRC 130 VA's or Watts transformer model # AH501 and had it for 6 years so far no problems running the williams engines ( I have  berkshire and sd-45) this transformer is a single trottle type and puts out "pure sine wave" AC. the berkshire pulls a 4 car 60 foot madison cars and a boxcar (both are williams).   My williams engine's can motors never got pass lukewarm after running for 40 mins to a hour on my TINY 4 by 8 layout.   Just wanted everyone to know....... Hello lennyski.........
I LIKE those little drivers or wheels of the S-2 turbine, i bet they spin the big siderods around pretty fast and its a blurrrrrrrrrrrrr.  I wish they had that engine in santa fe colors like my berkshire ( i know the turbine is a pennsy locomotive) but "so what", its a toy train !!!! SMILE and put the santa fe O27 streamliners behind it.   I would buy that set.

Hello kevin22........

that's really cool !!!!!!!!! I saw the real daylight #4449 at the "railfair 99" in 1999 in Sacramento and this is the first time in my life i ever seen a real one and i tell you this much that the orange color of the side skirting really was bright as it sits in sunshine !!.  The engine was in the sacremento railroad museum at the time.   There was also a cab forward inside too. I remenber back in early 1980's there was often SD-45's in grey color with bloody nose on front roaring by near the place where i worked.  the engines were a group of 3 ot 4 engines at the time pulling long freights......

hello Kevin22......
youre very welcome (smile).  Was there a problem with the MTH daylight engine ?  I think the the Williams daylight engine looks better overall with just the right amout of shade of orange (just my opinion) if williams/bachmann makes the matching daylight cars for it, i would buy the whole set LOL.  I have just 2 williams engines that is santa fe berkshire and sd-45.  Kevin are you a southern pacific fan by chance ?

Hello Kevin22..........

I would like to have the williams GS-4 myself but i think at this time Williams/bachmann does not make matching southern pacific passenger cars for it.   My parents rode on the Daylight back in 1941 los angeles,ca.

Hello Phillyreading.........
thats interesting, i haven't thought of it that way. well i guess it doesnt matter anyway as my 4 by 8 layout is limited to about 8 cars, including the caboose.

hello phillyreading.....

to stay away from MRC transformers? I am using the pure sine wave AC 130 watt MRC transformer and i dont have any problems of the wiliams engines (motors overheating any time) and i run them about 40 mins to hour at a time. the engines are a williams berkshire and sd-45 they both just barely get lukewarm.  I had this transformer for about 6 years now.  no problems with the MRC transformer either.  BUT strongly agree with you that anyone running the williams engine should use least 100 watts or VA's or more.

Hello Phillyreading.....
How come the sd-45's does not pull as well as the gp-9 ?  does the sd-45 weight more and its longer ?  how much does the sd-45 weigh as both engines have 8 wheel drive and 4 traction tires. does anyone would know ?

hello wdg.......

i have a williams berkshire and williams sd-45 upon using the MRC "pure power AC" transformer, this model has output of sustained 130 watts and the manual says on "features"  "pure AC sine wave output assures compatibillty with most AC sounds systems"  so i guess that means this MRC does put out AC sine waves.  I have run the berkshire with 4 car 60 foot madison cars and one boxcar for long as 40 minutes and the berkshire never got even lukewarm the same goes for the sd-45's. My layout is a TINY 4 by 8 foot.  I had this transformer for 5 years no troubles at all.  Just make sure check out the engine before running it for first time with fresh grease, oil and the gear meshing ok and no mech. binds.

hello nitro man......

that would be cool, i think williams did a blue comet berkshire sometime ago.  I have let it pass so many times that i regret it since. so i settled for santa fe berkshire instead.  I think williams bachmann makes a scale blue comet hudson.

Hello Guys, Gals.....

Does anyone have williams sd-45's and how do you like them ? .  I have one williams sd-45's made in 2007 (pre-bachmann) and i LOVE the engine it is far better made and runner than my MPC lionel FM's and 140 dollars cheaper too.
