I have a 6 stall roundhouse.  What system do you all use to know which engine, is in which stall; to acquire a loco?  The house is too far to actually see into to read the numbers.  I have decals on the fixed open doors and inbound tracts for operators to choose.

HO / Re: Overproduced models

It is nice that Athearn will be producing the Bigboy in the oil fired Excursion theme, that the UP is currently restoring.  I have several coal fired Bigboys on my layout.  A review on You tube shows the model with respect to the new tooling Athearn is using.  I will be purchasing one of these for my round house!  Now if someone would produce the excursion TENDERS SEPARATELY!!.......

Dear Board,
Has anyone changed the lights in one of these locos?  I want to just swap out the YELLOW LEDS for WHITE ones.  I do not know if there is a specific LED needed.  I would think I could just clip off the old and solder on new ones.  Anyone know if the PCB would support that?

I just purchased the GN version.  It HAS extra sand domes, wheel sets, and several small parts.  The other sand domes are Painted with GN on them also.
Thanks Bachmann!!

General Discussion / Re: Beginning of the end for DCC?
December 26, 2011, 08:36:46 AM
It seems that a lot of the "foot daggers" have made the move to DCC.  It took me a long time to make the JUMP.  Now that I have installed decoders for DCC in all my locos, I for one will not look for , or need any other type control system.  Call me silly if you want to, but as I get closer to retirement, I do not want another "Learning curve".  DCC has opened a whole new world for me, and as it continues to develop, I will be using it.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a motto I live by!!

Is it possible for the Bachmann to bring back the TENDERS!!  That would solve a lot of problems.  I think that  not finding them available on the web shows that they sold "out" and therefore were profitable...

Hint, Hint!!

HO / Re: Bachmann Gp 40 shell compatability

Don,
That would be a great option, except that the "Motor" is a single power truck.  The rear truck is for power pick-up only.  Just like the shell / paint scheme on this loco.
Will just keep my eyes peeled for a deal on a DCC-ON-Board one!

Mr. Bachmann can you ask around and see if the shells are interchangeable?
Thanks

HO / Bachmann Gp 40 shell compatability
September 21, 2011, 11:00:51 AM
I have been given a OLD Bachmann gp40 that runs great.  I run DCC exclusively on my pike, and will need to convert it so.  It is not a good puller, and has the truck type horn hook couplers that all need replaced.  The problem is it is the single power truck type from 1980... something.  It had not been run, but and does work well.  I would like to just put the shell on a new DCC installed one, but need to know if it will work, before purchasing a undecorated one.  the loco has no number on the box.  No road number either.  (So cannot reference it!)  It is a "GOLD"  UP EMD GP-40.  It was part of a set that also was not used.

I was not aware that the UP ever had any engines that were NOT painted in the Armour yellow.
