Thomas & Friends / Re: New Acquisitions
August 17, 2018, 01:13:30 AM
This question is going out to anyone who has the Skarloey or Rheneas model(s). Which do you think I should go for first? Is there any difference to how they run? Possibly hold out until the release of Rusty? I fully plan on getting one of them as I finally have the funds and room to add some HOn30 to my layout and will definitely post pictures. Which should I acquire first?

I can't believe one 0 have me such a headache in what I was looking for. Thank you, Grandpuff, for pointing out my mistake, but even still it is hard to find a lot of 009 or HOn30 models. This has definitely helped my search though! And thank you too you as well Chaz!

Thomas & Friends / Re: Narrow Gauge Modeling Thread

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've been on here, but I'm glad to see how active the forum is. As far as Rusty and Duncan go, I personally don't mind how Rusty looks in CGI, Duncan on the other hand is a different story. Fortunately I feel that's an issue we don't have to worry about anytime soon. Unless I missed the announcement of Duncan, I just gotta believe it'll be Peter Sam who is made next.

Seeing as this is a Narrow Gauge modeling thread I do have to ask something, that may not entirely be Bachmann related.
Where does everyone else find their HOn3 engines. Maybe it's just me but it seems to be impossible to find any online outside of this T&F line.

(Links and recommendations would be greatly appreciated)

I only ask because I wanted to add an HOn3 ( HO Narrow Gauge) section to my layout and I don't want it to be entirely T&F themed. Although if Peter Sam is announced I might change my stance on that.

Thanks for your help/feedback.

I have not been on the forums in a very very long time, when was Rusty announced?

Man oh man have I not been here in a long while, I think Rusty is gonna be a great edition to the Narrow Railway line (even though I'm still hoping for a Peter Sam (I'm biased cuz he's my favorite)) but Rusty will be a good edition and as for Syndey or Paxton, I honestly forget which CGI diesel they announced, regardless I'm gonna assume it will be a great edition for the HO scale, Large scale Diesel just makes sense to me and if I'm disappointed by anything at all it's that we won't have any passenger cars for the N scale line. Other than that I can't wait for a better pic of Rheneas! Those are my humble thoughts and opinions.

I see some problems in this thread already, and it hasn't even been up for 24 hours.  One of them is how one user in particular feels that he has to reply obsessively to every single post on this thread making this thread already go up to its third page...  ::)

I absolutely agree, I only put the top portion of the quote so it wouldn't run too long, but to say it straight out there, is absolutely NO need to reply to everyone's comments. Like I've said in the past if you really need to talk about it that badly carry it over into the DMs.

And I agree with Chaz again, I could easily see Mattel having a big part in this. There are SO many other choices they could have gone with, with that being said I'm sure it will be absolute quality like usual, but I will not be picking this model up. Now I'm not a large scale collector so I don't know if this is exciting news for that range or not, but they do seem to be getting a lot of rolling stock. Now Rehneas we all saw coming or at least hoped and I am definitely glad to see this being made. I'm a little disappointed coaches weren't announced, but at least slate trucks are coming! Hopefully Rheneas will actually release this year like Skarloey was able to release in 2015. If Rosie is pushed back to 2017 by no means will I care, because at least we are getting Oliver, Toad, and Rhenaes.
So when it comes to the 2016 announcements? I'm honestly more excited for the delayed 2015 announcements. (the only exception being Rheneas)

Agreed. It may not be exact but it is very similar. Thoughts?
Personally I don't care if it CGI or Classic because the product itself looks good, I mean look at Skarloey, CGI, but easily one of the best model released in the whole series. So my thoughts are positive!

And just like that the comments disappear. Anyway! Toad looks great!

As I mentioned in a previous post, Peco is making a Talyllyn version of the GVT coach, which is on the Talyllyn Railway;

I don't know if the Skarloey Railway has any sort of fictional equivalent to  it.
I wouldn't mind if they just repainted the Peco coaches, as long as the colors were show accurate. I genuinely wouldn't mind not complain, because we'd still be getting coaches.

I wouldn't mind if the narrow gauge engines went in numerical order, but I would imagine Bachmann would more likely go for some of the more popular narrow gauge characters first before moving onto some of the less popular ones.  The one Metal posted earlier is pretty much equivalent of what I would have guessed.  I don't see any of the newer narrow gauge engines like Luke or even Millie happening anytime soon though.
I agree not anytime soon, but if they are focusing the narrow gauge line on the CGI series more than the classic Luke has had decent exposure. So I do think he is realistic, but I agree, not anytime soon.

Seeing how the show is going now. Based on the characters appearances and roles.
Here's how I think the NG chracters would be released

After Rheneas
-A 50/50 toss-up between Peter Sam and Duncan
-Followed by Rusty
-And Sir Handel last, considering he's had very few appearances.

Thoughts??

I think they will come out in number order. I think personally each year they will be released like this:

2016 - Rheneas
2017 - Sir Handel
2018 - Peter Sam
2019 - Rusty
2020 - Duncan

I think that if the line gets popular enough we could see two releases per year, maybe too early for that this year now that I think about it so...
2016- Rheneas
2017- Peter Sam and Rusty
2018- Duncan and Sir Handel OR Luke (call be crazy, but I could see it)

As far as rolling stock and coaches go, I'd love to see some slate cars, but regardless of what color I think the coaches are  among the highest priorities (excluding engines)

I would expect pictures of Oliver and Toad as well as Oliver's retail price will be revealed in the 2016 catalog which would follow right after the 2016 announcements in February.
I figured, just wanted to hear some more input, thanks! Hope that happens!

So...question. What are the latest rumors on Oliver and Toad??? And do you think pics of them will soon surface? Maybe Feb? (Just to clarifying I'm not asking for the pics, just speculation on them and the eventual release.)

If the speculation about the possibility of the Skarloey tooling being re-used for a Talyllyn model turn out to be true, then Rheneas/Dolgoch is pretty much a shoe-in to be next.
Why would he need be a shoe-in?

And while you may not care about popularity, a business has to.

You sir hit the nail with the hammer. That's what it comes down to in the end, popularity of a character. Things like the color, number, or even gender of the locomotive almost never has anything to do with production.  What usually comes to mind more than anything else is either the popularity of the character or sometimes how easy it might be to make a model of said character (i.e. Recolors or twins).

I like Sir Handel, and I would buy a model of him if he were to be announced in the future.   I wouldn't even mind if by any chance the annoucements go in numerical order.  But it would not surprise me if we saw Peter Sam, Rusty, or even Duncan before him and that is because these characters have been used more regularly throughout the show in CGI.  Rheneas would make the most sense to me not because of his number, but because of his popularity. He has appeared a lot since the NG came back in CGI and he is also one of the more popular narrow gauge engines.  Like I said in another thread, he's basically the "Percy" of the narrow gauge engines which is why others like myself would put him before any other character at this time since the range only just started this year.
I agree, if it went in numerical order, I wouldn't mind, because I like Sir Handel as well, but as you agreed with me, he just isn't the most in demand.
