Did you call the Bachmann parts dept?

Umm... my opinion is that the original purchaser wanted the fancy valve action and took it and put it in his loco, and replaced it with what he could buy, since the chassis looks new.

OK, so the tender is a V7, most electronics there, and I would assume the chuff circuitry.

Now, are the 2 large connectors on the tender and are the corresponding sockets on the loco, and do those wires go to the motherboard on the loco?

trying to see how "far" the V7 wiring goes from the tender to the loco "guts"

That was our guess, V5 or 6 chassis in V7 loco and tender... seems so...

That board now comes with the chassis, as stated in another thread... Looks to try to be "universal"...

older model was mechanical switch, drum with contacts on axle. two wires. I'm not sure when/if the latest version has the ir sensor... I know the C19 has a blade inside the cylinder connected to the piston rod that is the trigger. Again, have not seen it apart, but I think it might be a led on one side and the sensor (+, -, trigger) on the other side.

hmm... looking at the C19 wiring diagram, the sensor has 4 wires...

Maybe someone knows, but does your chassis have the chuff "drum" on one of the axles?

Yeah, it's been out of production (K-27) for years. The first time I "saw" the PNP adapter was with the Dash 9 re-issue, but it may have existed earlier.

In any case, That's what john should start with, but he's not responded to my questions, so I cannot take him to the next step in debugging the problem.

Your K27 came with it? Hasn't it been out of production BEFORE the PNP adapter was even made?

Stan?

There is a thread on MLS about this.

So, no one has a schematic

I believe the board is designed to accomodate old and new wiring schemes, specifically chuff triggers.

One version is a simple switch, that is most likely the 2 pin connector.

The other style uses a sensor, which takes 3 leads...

That's our best guess.

Yes it helps... did not know it was being supplied with all current production locos with the socket.

So that's one less thing for jebouck to buy...

Thanks Stan

He posted on the last day, it was still working as of that day... I appreciated it.

I'm confused...

The existing interface is a socket with a shorting plug, as far as I know...  these are new, but new models, or new old stock.

What is the second interface? the shorting plug? I'm not aware of anything else shipping with the loco, can you supply a picture?

Not sure what the control module in the tender is? There should be a socket in there with a shorting plug.

Recently Bachmann sells a PNP adapter board, and it works on ALL current sockets... originally it was only on the Bachmann site under the Dash 9 accessories... I stated that in my first reply...

Yes indeed, you are missing something, my questions are intended to help you find what that is.
#27
so, you do not specifically mention you are using it, but you have removed the default "shorting" plug and added the Bachmann PNP adapter (I think it's in the Dash 9 parts area)?

If you have, then just wire the motor up and see what happens, just 2 wires from the RP decoder to the PNP adapter

Take a close look at the picture of the back of the loco... it has the two 2-pin plugs of the original units... that part is definitely not V7...

says he cannot get sound to work... of course the speaker is in the tender which is nowhere to be seen... ha ha....

interesting mess

Mark, I mean the "back and forth" track you referenced.

I sort of assumed you were using a "shuttle" controller to do this, but you also mentioned a Revo, so are YOU the controller?

again my theory: new chassis swapped into a V7... perhaps ran originally and damaged the v7 chassis... or did not want it any more but wanted the chassis... since the seller seems to NOT be the person who did the swap, we'll probably never know the "back story"
