I just purchased the Bachmann 44 tonner (Model 62207) Baltimore & Ohio (B&O). In these last few weeks. You have me concerned that these gear issues are in my new locomotive and sometime in the future may present the same type of gear failure. This brings me to the question: Are these gears splitting from age, high tensional force from use, or is the grease attacking the gear material? How long will the 44-tonner operate before this splitting gear shows up, 1-year, 2-years (pass the warranty), you get the picture.
I normally never submit those Bachmann postcards for the warranty, but maybe on this one I should.

Well that's great news. The best part is that unlike many others on this forum, they never provide a conclusion (outcome) of their particular issue. In this case you did, and this will allow others to see that there are results (good or bad) in this case good, for making decisions going forward.
Understand that the slope would take the entire L shape starting from top of the L to the bottom end of the L. A sloping bridge in both directions I believe would provide that +/- 2% slope. In the prior hijacked drawing, the track on the outer edges would be the bridges either rising or dropping (except for the left side track, after the switch, doesn't show the dash line for a bridge). It would still allow my layout to be modified when new thoughts come into my imagination.
